MULDOON

Richard E. Muldoon, 84,  Jefferson City, died July 14, 2000, at St. Marys Health Center.

He was born April 15, 1916, in Kirkwood, a son of James E. and Lena Catherine Venneman Muldoon. He was married Aug. 8, 1940, in Rolla, to Elizabeth Mossop, who survives at the home.

He was an electrician for National Lead Titanium Division, St. Louis, for 35 years. A former Bourbon resident, he was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Bourbon.

Other survivors include: one son, Richard A. Muldoon, St. Martins; one daughter, Kathleen M. Brouillette, Montreal; one brother, Laurence J. Muldoon, Troy; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Houser-Millard Home. The Rev. Dan Merz will officiate. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today and from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

SCHNIRCH

Edgar Herbert Schnirch, 71, Stover, died July 16, 2000, at Capital Region Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 19, 1928, in Stover, a son of John and Anna Catherine Albers Schnirch. He was married March 14, 1964, in Stover, to Florene Moellman, who survives at the home.

A 1947 graduate of Stover High School, he was an Air Force veteran. He was a laboratory lead assistant with Coopers Animal Health Inc., Kansas City for 29 years, retiring in 1991. He lived in Independence for 28 years before returning to Stover.

Other survivors include: one stepson, James A. Wooten, Kansas City; three stepdaughters, Jackie Roller, Clinton, Jerrie Goodman, Odessa, and Jeanie Wooten, Kansas City; three brothers, Victor Schnirch, Versailles, Raymond Schnirch, Kansas City, Kan., and Norman Schnirch, Kirksville; five sisters, Irene Hodges, Arlington, Texas , Joan Johnson and Mary Johnson, both of Stover, and Betty James and Helen Long, both of Versailles; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

One son, Edgar Herbert Schnirch Jr., died Dec. 21, 1984.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home, Stover. The Rev. Duane Thompson will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will be in Kipp Memorial Cemetery, Stover.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to Christ Lutheran Church, Stover, or the American Cancer Society.

WRIGHT

Betty D. Wright, 72,  Jefferson City, died July 15, 2000, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility.

She was born Feb. 2, 1928, in Andarko, Okla., a daughter of Buddy and Rosalie Fouche Carson. She was married to Tommy Wright, who died Oct. 31, 1970.

A graduate of high school in  Oklahoma City, she moved to  Jefferson City six years ago. A homemaker, she was a licensed practical nurse. She was a member of the Towers Tenant Association.

Survivors include one daughter, Jacki Keen,  Jefferson City, and two granddaughters.

A private family service will be held.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

VEIT

Francis Albert Veit, 72, Wardsville, died July 17, 2000, at St. Marys Health Center.

He was born July 11, 1928, in Osage Bend, a son of Frank H. and Matilda Twehous Veit. He was married July 22, 1957, in Wardsville, to Lillian Marie Markway, who survives at the home.

He attended St. Margaret Catholic School, Osage Bend, and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was employed at Vita-Gas, St. Louis, and Ready-Gas, Eldon, retiring in 1987 as plant manager at Uragas. After his retirement, he worked part-time at Ferrell Gas.

He was mayor of Wardsville for 25 years. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Wardsville, the Over-Fifty Club and the Wardsville Knights of Columbus Council. He was past president of St. Marys Health Center Mended Hearts Club and the Cedar City Lions Club, where he was chairman of the diabetic committee.

He was a 23-year member and past treasurer of the Missouri L.P. Gas Association. He was a former member of the Cole County Community Government Association, and past treasurer and volunteer fireman with the Taos-Wardsville Fire Department.

Other survivors include: one son, Douglas F. Veit, Tebbetts; one sister, Delores Holtmeyer, St. Anthony; two brothers, Joseph Veit, Holts Summit, and Jim Veit, Palmyra; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. The Rev. Louis E. Dorn will officiate. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Lions Eye Tissue Bank, the American Heart Association or to a charity of the donor's choice.

SMITH

Garland W. Smith, 81, Mokane, died July 16, 2000, at Riverview Nursing Center, Mokane.

He was born Aug. 5, 1918, a son of Edgar F. and Emma Irene Level Smith. He was married to Reva Diehl, who died May 24, 1999.

He worked in the maintenance department for the Missouri State Highway Patrol. He was a member of First Christian Church, Mokane, and Fulton VFW Post 2657. He was a past member of the Mokane Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include two brothers, Glenn Smith, Tebbetts, and McCoy Smith, Cudahy, Calif.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Maupin Funeral Home, Fulton. Burial will be in Mokane Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to Mokane First Christian Church.

GARRETT

Louis M. "Bud" Garrett, 74, Portland, died July 14, 2000, at Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital, Columbia.

He was born June 8, 1926, in Steedman, a son of Jesse and Minnie Tomeck Garrett. He was married in 1950 to Lucille Hunn.

He worked as a union machinist in the St. Louis area, and then was employed at the Callaway Nuclear Plant. He was a member of Reform Baptist Church, Reform, Fulton VFW Post 2657 and the DAV.

Survivors include: four daughters, Deborah Hostkoetter and Sandy Hense, both of St. Charles, Judy Wood, Portland, and Mary Lou Austin, New Melle; one son, Steve Garrett, Portland; two sisters, Virginia Miller, Florissant, and Dottie Pew, St. Charles; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Reform Baptist Church. The Rev. Lewis Curtis will officiate. Burial will be in Portland Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the DAV or the Portland Cemetery Fund.

Arrangements are under the direction of Maupin Funeral Home, Fulton.

MILLER

Agnes B. Miller, 99, Tipton, died July 16, 2000, at Tipton Manor.

Arrangements are incomplete at Conn Funeral Home, Tipton.

SOMMERER

Frances Elizabeth Schubert Sommerer, 87,  Jefferson City, died July 16, 2000, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born Aug. 18, 1912, in Honey Creek, a daughter of Fred H. and Regina J. Rockelmann Schubert. She was married Dec. 8, 1935, in Honey Creek, to Paul L. Sommerer, who survives at the home.

A lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Honey Creek, she was a member of the Ladies Aide Society. She was a homemaker and quilt-maker. She lived in Central Missouri all her life.

Other survivors include: two sons, Leroy J. Sommerer and Paul O. Sommerer, both of  Jefferson City; two daughters, Wilma J. Strobel and Verna M. Menteer, both of  Jefferson City; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

One son, Donald W. Sommerer, died Jan. 14, 1976, and one daughter, Pauline D. Sommerer, died Oct. 1, 1985.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Rev. Russell Bowder and the Rev. Gerald Scheperle will officiate. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon-2 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the Frances Sommerer Memorial Fund.

Arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

HEDRICK

J. Ray "Midnight" Hedrick, 52, Versailles, died July 18, 2000, at his home.

He was born Jan. 13, 1948, in Pilot Grove, a son of James W. and Laura Opal Grosvenor Hedrick. He was married June 20, 1986, in Versailles, to Gail Beth Miller, who survives at the home.

An Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he owned and operated Ray Hedrick Trucking, Versailles.

He was a member of the Versailles Christian Church and Coon Club.

Other survivors include: five sons, Todd Meyer, Peoria, Ariz., Garret Meyer and Chad Meyer, both of Kansas City, and Eric Hedrick and Mario Hedrick, both of Versailles; eight sisters, Shirley Hudson, St. Louis, Mary June Cobb, Syracuse, Bonnie Hedrick, Eldon, Laura Sousley and Kay Wilson, both of Odessa, and Bethel Wilson, Wilma Sapp and Sue Schreck, all of Tipton; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles. John Wagner, Don Houchen and Jim Randall will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will be in Glensted Cemetery, Versailles.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to his sons' educational fund.

MAIENSCHEIN

William H. Maienschein, 84,  Jefferson City, died July 19, 2000, at Capital Region Medical Center.

He was born June 29, 1916, in Kansas City, a son of Justus and Lillian Bergmann Maienschein. He was married Aug. 18, 1941, in Kansas City, to Dorothy Kelley, who died in March 1981.

He attended Northeast High School, Kansas City, and Kansas City University.

An Army Air Corps veteran, he was a group supervisor with the Internal Revenue Service for 30 years.

After his retirement, he was an independent tax consultant for five years. He was a resident of  Jefferson City since 1993, and a former resident of Kansas City.

Survivors include two sons, Gary Maienschein,  Jefferson City, and Gene Maienschein, Poway, Calif., and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Mount Moriah Cemetery Chapel, Kansas City.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home, and from noon-1 p.m. Friday at Mount Moriah Cemetery Chapel.

Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church Organ Fund.
