SMITH

Lurene V. Smith, 88, Grandview, died July 19, 2000, at her home.

She was born Aug. 19, 1911, in Walnut Ridge, Ark. She was married to Joseph Phineas Smith Sr., who preceded her in death.

She was a self-employed drapery seamstress before retiring. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Grandview.

Survivors include: five sons, Charles Eugene Smith, San Francisco, Morgan T. Smith, Grandview, Lewis F. Smith, Walnut Ridge, Ark., Ray N. Smith, Belton, and Gary W. Smith,  Jefferson City; two daughters, Margaret Olson, Russellville, and Martha Johnson, Valpariaso, Ind.; one brother, Willard Holder, Glencoe, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

One infant daughter, one daughter, Norma Gentry, and one son, Joseph P. Smith Jr., preceded her in death.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Grandview. Burial will be in Green Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Park Lawn Funeral Home, Kansas City.

Memorials are suggested to the Kansas City Hospice or the First Baptist Church of Grandview Building Fund.

SCHEPPERS

Dayton Anthony Scheppers, infant son of Chris Scheppers and Sarah Kelly,  Jefferson City, died July 19, 2000, at University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics.

He was born July 18, 2000, in  Jefferson City. His parents survive at the home.

Other survivors include: maternal grandmother, Susan Kelly, Holts Summit; and paternal grandparents, William and Liz Scheppers,  Jefferson City.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Resurrection Cemetery. The Rev. Edwin Schmidt will officiate.

Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

SAUNDERS

Charles Arthur "Chuck" Saunders, 80, Climax Springs, died July 20, 2000, at his home.

He was born Feb. 13, 1920, in Fort Leavenworth, Kan., a son of Charles C. and Pearl Gladys Bowmaster Saunders. He was married July 17, 1942, to Hazel Irene McKee, who survives at the home.

He was an Air Force veteran and attended school in the Kansas City area.

He worked for the Vendo Company and was employed by the United States Postal Service, Kansas City, until his retirement in 1974.

He moved to Climax Springs in 1974.

He was a member of Camdenton United Methodist Church, where he was a choir member. He was a member of Linn Creek Masonic Lodge, and several square dancing organizations: Jeans and Queens, Ozark Lakers and Ozark Zig Zags. He served on the board of directors and was past president of the Central Missouri Area Agency on Aging.

Other survivors include: two sons, Steven Saunders, Oakland, Calif., and Bruce Saunders, Grand Haven, Mich.; one daughter, Paula Gorenflo, Kansas City; two brothers, John Saunders, Clinton, and Ralph Saunders, Belton; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Camdenton United Methodist Church. The Rev. Marc Magana will officiate. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday in Mount Moriah Cemetery, Kansas City.

Visitation will be from noon-5 p.m. Sunday at Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Camdenton, with Masonic services at 3 p.m.

RUDROFF

Leonard Adolph Rudroff, 67, Raymore, formerly of Rich Fountain, died July 20, 2000, at his home.

He was born Sept. 14, 1932, in Rich Fountain, a son of Adolph and Ida Luebbert Rudroff. He was married to Georgia Marie Talken, who survives at the home.

A resident of Belton since 1954, he founded Rudroff Heating & Air Conditioning Inc., which he owned until 1997. He served as a Belton city alderman from 1971 to 1975. He received the Honor of York Superior Achievement Award from 1984 to 1997.

Other survivors include: one son, Rick Rudroff, Cleveland, Mo.; one daughter, Renee Kerckhoff, Raymore; two sisters, Alma Forck, Taos, and Rita Rudroff, Vienna; three grandchildren, three step grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at St. Sabina Catholic Church, Belton. Entombment will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the mausoleum at Resurrection Cemetery,  Jefferson City.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to a church of the donor's choice or to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cullen Funeral Home, Raymore.

BERKSTRESSER

Gwendolyn C. Berkstresser, 80, Versailles, died July 20, 2000, at the University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics.

She was born Oct. 23, 1919, in Barnett, a daughter of Omer E. and Tracy Ann Sullivan Cochran. She was married Jan. 9, 1939, to Henry L. Berkstresser, who survives at the home.

A homemaker, she was a member of Versailles United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, OES Barnett Chapter 303, OES Versailles Chapter 410 and Past Matrons and Patrons. She was also Past District Deputy Grand Matron of the 58th District.

Other survivors include: one son, Jerry Berkstresser, Joplin; one sister, Janice Raines, Huntington Beach, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Versailles United Methodist Church. The Rev. Gary DeWitt will officiate. Burial will be in Versailles Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles, with an Eastern Star service at 4 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to Versailles United Methodist Church.

WHITE

Evelyn Page Speckhals White , 71, Fulton, died July 20, 2000, at the University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics.

She was born April 7, 1929, in Portland, a daughter of Cecil and Amanda Hampton Shiverdecker. She was married Dec. 25, 1952, to Harold George Speckhals, who died April 22, 1987. She then was married Sept. 22, 1992, to Marvin White , who died Dec. 10, 1998.

She was a member of Richland Baptist Church, Kingdom City.

Survivors include: two son, Calvin Jay Speckhals,  Jefferson City, and Harold Dale Speckhals, Holts Summit; one daughter, Joann Speckhals, Holts Summit; three sisters, Sylvia Baumgartner, Florene Hume and Sally Aungerer, all of Fulton; one brother, Gene Shiverdecker, Fulton; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sons, Cecil Speckhals, Carl Speckhals, and an infant son, and by one infant daughter.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Debo Funeral Home, Fulton. The Rev. Don Kelley will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday.

Memorials are suggested to Richland Baptist Church.

SCHAFFER

William Floyd Schaffer, 88, Fulton, died July 20, 2000, at Fulton Manor Nursing Home.

He was born June 12, 1912, in Tebbetts, a son of William and Lina Arcutter Schaffer. He was married Oct. 11, 1947, in Eldon, to Mary Katherine Stocker, who died Nov. 23, 1993.

An Army veteran of World War II, he earned two Bronze Stars. He was laundry manager for the Fulton State Hospital. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Fulton, VFW Post 1003,  Jefferson City, and Disabled Veterans of Missouri.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Debo Funeral Homes, Fulton. The Rev. Stephen Sowder will officiate. Entombment will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Visitation will be from noon-2 p.m. Sunday.

GRONER

Paula Sophie Gesine Groner, 78, Meta, died July 21, 2000, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born May 8, 1922, in Babbtown, a daughter of Carl and Sophie Mueller Wachtendorf. She was married Nov. 30, 1945, in  Jefferson City, to Isidore Groner, who died Feb. 2, 1995.

A homemaker, she was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Babbtown, and of the ladies aid.

Survivors include: two sons, Joe Lee Groner, Glencoe, and Allen T. Groner, Russellville; one sister, Anna Schroeder, Meta; and four grandsons.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. John's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Gerald Scheperle will officiate. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Rekus Funeral Home, Meta.

COLVIN

Mary D. Colvin, 75, Holts Summit, died July 21, 2000, at Capital Health Care Center,  Jefferson City.

She was born April 25, 1925, in Guthrie, a daughter of Claud and Sarilda Zumwalt Henderson. She was married Oct. 10, 1948, to Gilbert Miller, who died Dec. 13, 1957. She was married Oct. 4, 1958, to Marvin Colvin, who died May 28, 1987.

A lifelong resident of mid-Missouri, she attended  Jefferson City Public Schools. She was a homemaker and drove a handicapped school bus.

Survivors include two brothers, Homer Henderson,  Jefferson City, and Billy R. Henderson, Rocky Mount.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Freeman Mortuary,  Jefferson City. The Rev. John Kerr will officiate. Graveside services will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Hartsburg.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Sunday.

BREITMAN

Services were Friday for Robert R. Breitman, 97, Gravois Mills, who died July 20, 2000, at Lake Regional Health Center, Osage Beach.

He was born March 17, 1903, in Montreal, Canada, a son of Hyman and Rebecca Grosi Breitman. He was married Aug. 28, 1958, to Diena Elizabeth Meier, who died Aug. 11, 1981.

He was an Army veteran and a retired pattern maker for the Mancini Dress Company.

Survivors include one son, Thomas H. Sperry, Hudson, Fla., three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were at Garber Memorial Estates Cemetery, Laurie.

Arrangements were under the direction of Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Laurie.

STEELE

Anna M. Steele, 68, Holts Summit, died July 19, 2000, at her home.

Arrangements are incomplete at Houser-Millard Funeral Home.
