O'MALLEY

Julian L. O'Malley, 90,  Jefferson City, died July 26, 2000, at St. Josephs Home for the Aged.

He was born March 5, 1910, in Plattsburg, a son of Patrick J. and Bessie Hutchison O'Malley. He was married May 10, 1947, in Maryville, to Vernelle Bauer, who survives at the home.

He graduated from Plattsburg High School and St. Benedicts College, Atchison, Kan., and received a juris doctorate degree from the Kansas City School of Law, Kansas City. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

He was a resident of the  Jefferson City area since 1949. He was prosecuting attorney for the city of Clinton from 1947 to 1949. He was an assistant attorney general for the state of Missouri from 1949 to 1964. He was general counsel for the Missouri Conservation Commission from 1964 until his retirement in 1975.

He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, Plattsburg, the Missouri Bar Association and the Association of Retired Missouri State Employees.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Freeman Mortuary. Msgr. Charles Patterson will officiate. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Friday.

Memorials are suggested to Missouri Girls Town, Kingdom City, Mo.

FICKBOHM

Mildred Fickbohm, 79, Linn Creek, died July 26, 2000, at Lake of the Ozarks Retirement Center, Osage Beach.

She was born April 16, 1921, in Orient, Ill., a daughter of Lonie and Nora Hoppers Denney. She was married to Harry Worsham, who preceded her in death. She was married to Russell Fickbohm, who preceded her in death.

She co-owned and co-operated a Maytag sales and service store in Centralia, Ill. She also co-owned and co-operated the Flame Restaurant in Mount Vernon, Ill. She managed the Southern Illinois Tobacco Company.

She is survived by one niece, Carol Schramm, Osage Beach.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Centralia, Ill. The Rev. Brad Harlowe will officiate.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or Second Baptist Church, Herrin, Ill.

Arrangements are under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Camdenton.

KELSAY

Terry W. Kelsay, 84, Tecumseh, Kan., died July 26, 2000, at Midland Hospice House.

He was born Oct. 16, 1915, in Bagnell, a son of Luther and Christine Pfeiffer Kelsay. He was married March 13, 1946, in Omaha, Neb., to Helen E. Murawski Hicks, who survives.

An Army veteran of World War II, he was a carpenter for Reece Shirley Construction Company for 50 years before retiring in 1980. He was a member of Carpenter's Union 1445 and the Topeka Treasure Hunters Club.

Other survivors include: two stepsons, Earl E. Hicks Jr. and Richard W. Hicks Sr., both of Topeka, Kan.; two brothers, James Mac Kelsay and Luther Kelsay Jr., both of New Bloomfield; two sisters, Louise Jefferies, Columbia, and Patsy Finke,  Jefferson City; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Highland Chapel, Topeka. Burial, with military honors, will be in Zion Cemetery, southeast of Topeka.

Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to Midland Hospice Care, 200 S.W. Frazier Circle, Topeka, Kan. 66606.

BALES

Bobby Bales, 32, Eldon, died July 28, 2000, at University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics.

He was born Aug. 9, 1967, in Sangamon County, Ill., a son of Robert and Nancee Harre Bales, who survive in Eldon.

He was a self-employed farrier.

Other survivors include: two sisters, Christina Bales, Lake Ozark, and Stefanie Cavanaugh, Wilmington, Ill.; his maternal grandmother, Catherine Harre, Beardstown, Ill.; and his paternal grandmother, Mary Bales, Springfield, Ill..

A memorial service will be announced later. No visitation is planned.

Memorials are suggested to the Miller County Group Home, Osage Beach.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rekus Funeral Home, Eldon.

KAEMMERLEN

Frank Bernard Kaemmerlen, 77,  Jefferson City, died July 28, 2000, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility.

He was born Sept. 29, 1922, in Tyler, Texas , a son of Joseph and Angie Ehrhard Kaemmerlen. He was married Aug. 29, 1964, to Gertrude Bode, who survives at the home.

He graduated from Tyler High School, attended St. Edwards College in Austin, Texas , and received an electrical engineering degree from Rice University in Houston.

A Navy veteran of World War II, he was employed with Cotton Belt Railroad in Tyler for several years and later was an electrician with Kaemmerlen Electrical Co., St. Louis, for 40 years until his retirement as a foreman in 1985.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a charter member of Thousand Catholic Men at Carmelite Monastery in Ladue. He belonged to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 3, St. Louis, and the St. Martins Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.

Other survivors include one sister, Mrs. Jack Royce, Tyler.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Cathedral. The Rev. Gregory L. Higley will officiate. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Vitae Society or the Immaculate Conception Endowment Fund.

FLOWERS

Services were Tuesday in Lexington, Ky., for Jeffrey Lawrence Flowers, 34, Lexington, formerly of Holts Summit, who died July 21, 2000, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Lexington.

He was born June 18, 1966, in Chicago, a son of Hugh and Janett Flowers, who survive in Holts Summit. He was married May 26, 1990, to Robbie Glenn, who survives at the home.

He was a 1984 graduate of  Jefferson City High School and a 1989 graduate of Lincoln University, where he majored in animal science and received a commission into the Army as a second lieutenant. He served as a captain in the Persian Gulf War, in charge of a Patriot Missile Crew.

At the time of his death, he worked for General Electric Corp. as a regional service manager in medical systems. He was a member of the Family Worship Center, Lexington.

Other survivors include: one daughter, Jocelyn Flowers, of the home; two sons, Jeffrey Flowers Jr. and Joseph Flowers, both of the home; one sister, Cherilyn Williams,  Jefferson City; and two brothers, Carlton Flowers,  Jefferson City, and Tedric Flowers, Holts Summit.

Memorials are suggested to the Flowers Children's Trust Fund in care of Reginald Williams, 2404 Starling Drive,  Jefferson City, Mo. 65109.

BERNARD

Martha Bernard, 73, Moberly, formerly of Ashland, died July 29, 2000, at Moberly Nursing Home.

She was born Dec. 9, 1926, in Boone County, a daughter of James B. and Mary Ann Garrett Morris. She was married July 31, 1954, in Columbia, to Raymond Bernard, who died Feb. 16, 1999.

She worked in Central Supply at Ellis-Fischel Cancer Center, Columbia, until June 1974. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Hartsburg.

Survivors include two sisters, Gwendola Sexton, Cairo, and Ann Neal, Columbia.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Robinson Funeral Home, Ashland. The Rev. Jim Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Columbia.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Monday.

Memorials are suggested to Humane Society chapters.

STROBEL

Alma M. Strobel, 83,  Jefferson City, died July 30, 2000, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born Dec. 9, 1916, in Cole County, a daughter of William A. and Henrietta E. Sommerer Meier. She was married Jan. 24, 1937, in Honey Creek, to Adolph Fred Strobel, who survives at the home.

She attended Central School and Immanuel Lutheran School, Honey Creek. She lived near California, Kansas City, Raytown and Kansas City, Kan., before returning to  Jefferson City in 1982.

She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.

Other survivors include: one son, Ronald J. Strobel, Boulder, Colo.; one sister, Lydia Goldammer,  Jefferson City; one brother, Robert Meier,  Jefferson City; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home. The Rev. Tony Alter and the Rev. Alvin Lange will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials are suggested to Faith Lutheran Church.

SISSEL

Randy L. Sissel, 47, St. Louis, formerly of  Jefferson City, died July 29, 2000, in St. Louis.

He was born March 13, 1953, a son of Marvin and Beverly Sissel. His parents survive in Rogersville. He was married June 23, 1979, in Springfield, to Rita Blankenburg, who survives at the home.

A graduate of Rogersville High School, he received bachelor's and master's degrees in journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He was a news and sports reporter for KGBX Radio, Springfield, and a political and labor reporter for the Springfield Daily News.

He was press secretary for John Ashcroft when Ashcroft was attorney general and governor. He was director of marketing and development/corporate and annual giving for the University of Missouri-Columbia Athletic Department. In St. Louis, he was communications manager for consumer awareness and education at Anheuser-Busch Companies.

Other survivors include: one daughter, Jaime Kaylee Sissel, of the home; one brother, Tony Sissel, Lebanon; one sister, Delana Hickman, Rome, Ga.; and grandmother, Gretta Holloway, Springfield.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Chesterfield Presbyterian Church, Chesterfield. Graveside services will be at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at White Chapel Cemetery, Springfield.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Bopp Funeral Home, Kirkwood.

Memorials are suggested to "Shelter the Children" of St. Louis or to Chesterfield Presbyterian Church.

LAKE

Robert H. Lake, 66, Fortuna, died July 29, 2000, at Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital, Columbia.

He was born Sept. 14, 1933, in Aurora Springs, a son of Clarence and Ellen Sidebottom Lake.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include: two sisters, Thelma Louise Hiller, Versailles, and Ruby Cornell, Raymore; and one brother, Edward Lake, Mineral Springs, Ark.

No services are planned. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, near Rocky Mount.

Arrangements are under the direction of Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home, Versailles.
