DEEKEN
Germaine "Gerrie" Deeken, 79, Jefferson City, died Aug. 5, 2000, at Hospice of Jefferson City and Mid-Missouri.
She was born June 6, 1921, in Jefferson City, a daughter of Sam and Frances Wallau Eveler. She was married June 28, 1947, in Jefferson City, to John J. Deeken, who died Feb. 17, 1997.
A lifelong area resident, she graduated from St. Peter's High School in 1940 and worked for Central Bank before her marriage.
A homemaker, she was awarded the Civilian Air Medal and Distinguished Flying Cross for her troop support during World War II.
She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and of the auxiliaries of American Legion Roscoe Enloe Post 5 and the Elks. She also was a volunteer at Vogelweid Learning Center.
Survivors include: four sons, Jack Deeken and Tom Deeken, both of Jefferson City, Dan Deeken, Springfield, and Alan Deeken, Keyport, N.J.; one brother, Jack Eveler, Louisburg, Kan.; one sister, Sister Frances Ann Eveler, St. Louis; and 18 grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter Catholic Church. The Rev. Joseph Corel will officiate. Entombment will be in the Mausoleum at Resurrection Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Monday at Freeman Mortuary, with a prayer service at 6 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Jefferson City and Mid-Missouri.
GUIDERA
John Guidera, 86, Holts Summit, died Aug. 4, 2000, at Capital Region Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 25, 1913, in Sacramento, Calif., a son of Joseph and Jossie Matranza Guidera. He was married Sept. 11, 1949, in Reno, Nevada, to Marjorie Smith, who survives at the home.
He was a graduate of Sacramento High School and the Sacramento Barber College. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was employed as a barber for more than 50 years.
He owned and operated Johnny's Barber Shop until his retirement; he then was employed in the maintenance division at the Missouri State Archives building for 15 years.
He was a member of First Assembly of God Church, Jefferson City.
Other survivors include: two sons, Ronald Smith, Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Wayne Guidera, Sacramento; one daughter, Claudia Dianne Clement, Holts Summit; one brother, Paul Guidera, Sacramento; one sister, Mary Banich, Sacramento; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Assembly of God Church. The Rev. Paul Scheperle will officiate.
Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to First Assembly of God Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Buescher Memorial Home.
NORTH
Leonard Cecil North, 90, Camdenton, died Aug. 4, 2000, at St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield.
He was born April 23, 1910, near Macks Creek, a son of Charles and Stella Stone North. He was married April 23, 1931, to Velva Parrack, who survives at the home.
He was district manager of the Sho-Me Power Electric Co-operative. He had served on the Camdenton R-3 Board of Education, the Camden County School Board, Camdenton's City Council and the Dale Blair Cemetery Board.
He belonged to the Linn Creek Masonic Lodge and was a charter member of the Camdenton Rotary Club, Lake Valley Country Club and Camden County Saddle Club. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Camdenton.
Other survivors include: one son, Gentry Dennis North, Camdenton; one daughter, Patricia Joann Morgan, Camdenton; one brother, Bert North, Slater; two sisters, Grace Murdock, Milford, Utah, and Mary Phillips, Bakersfield, Calif.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
One son, Leonard Denzil North, and one grandson preceded him in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church. The Rev. Paul Burns and the Rev. Tracy Carroll will officiate. Burial will be in Dale Blair Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at the Hedges Funeral Home, Camdenton, with Masonic services at 7 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.
SCHMITZ
Jerome "Jerry" Schmitz, 79, Loose Creek, died Aug. 3, 2000, at St. Marys Health Center.
He was born March 26, 1921, in Jefferson City, a son of Leo C. and Pauline Cremer Schmitz. He was married Nov. 26, 1943, in Loose Creek, to Marian H. Lock, who survives at the home.
A lifelong area resident, he graduated from St. Peter's High School. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a co-owner and operator of Lock Brothers Milling Co., Loose Creek, until his retirement in 1999.
He belonged to the Knights of Columbus' Bonnots Mill Council; American Legion Post 5; the Osage County Historical Society; and the Senior Bowling League at Westgate Lanes in Jefferson City. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Loose Creek.
Other survivors include: one son, Donald L. Schmitz, Columbia; two brothers, Leo Schmitz Jr., Kansas City, Kan., and Richard Schmitz, Jefferson City; two sisters, Margaret Savarino, Utica, Mich., and Mary Louise Distler, Jefferson City; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Church. The Rev. Greg Meystrik will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Morton Funeral Home, Linn, with a prayer service at 8 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to Immaculate Conception School, Loose Creek, or the American Heart Association.
SCOTT
Thelma L. Scott, 86, Versailles, died Aug. 5, 2000, at Good Shepherd Care Center, Versailles.
She was born April 23, 1914, in Proctor, a daughter of William "Bill" and Roxie Kennedy Chamberlain. She was married Jan. 10, 1934, in Versailles, to Edward "Whizzer" Scott, who died Jan. 24, 1996.
A homemaker, she was a member of West Union Baptist Church, south of Versailles.
Survivors include: one daughter, Kathryn Hutchison, Versailles; one sister, Helen "Lorene" Barton, Gravois Mills; three grandchildren and four great-grandsons.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home, Versailles. The Rev. Bob Nichols and Barry Grider will officiate. Burial will be in Versailles Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Lions Eye Bank.
DUEMMEL
Pearl M. Duemmel, 83, Jefferson City, died Aug. 5, 2000, at her home.
She was born Feb. 19, 1917, in Jefferson City, a daughter of George E. and Dora E. Warden Burks. She was married Dec. 29, 1934, in Jefferson City, to William J.E. Duemmel, who died Jan. 25, 1968. She was married Oct. 25, 1975, in Mokane, to Joseph V. Distler, who died Sept. 25, 1986.
A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, she attended Jefferson City public schools. She was a homemaker. She was employed by Tweedie Footwear and worked as a baker with the Jefferson City public schools.
She was employed by Chesebrough-Ponds from 1967 until her retirement in 1979. She was a member of Central United Church of Christ.
Survivors include: two sons, William E. Duemmel, Columbia, and Charles D. Duemmel, Jefferson City; five stepsons, Marvin Distler and Walter Distler, both of Jefferson City, Julian Distler, Hartsburg, Louie Distler, Holts Summit, and Roger Distler, Richmond, Va.; one stepdaughter, Rosalyn Fitzgerald, Mokane; four sisters, Edith Major, Opal Thomasson, Georgia Saucier and Shirley Quinn, all of Jefferson City; two brothers, Bobby Burks, Jefferson City, and Roger Burks, Macon; seven grandchildren; 15 step grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 14 step great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
One stepson, Earl Distler, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Freeman Mortuary. The Rev. Stephen Buchholz will officiate. Burial will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today.
Memorials are suggested to Central United Church of Christ.
BOSONE
Dominick Bosone, 87, Lake Ozark, died Aug. 5, 2000, at Lake Regional Health System, Osage Beach.
He was born Dec. 8, 1912, in Marseilles, Ill., a son of Steve and Lucia Menietto Bosone.
He was a maintenance tech for a printing company and attended schools in Pontiac, Ill. He was Catholic and a member of the American Legion Post 0078, Pontiac.
Survivors include: one son, Charles Bosone, Seabrook, Texas ; two daughters, Judy Decker, Lake Ozark, and Joan Briggs, Spring, Texas ; one sister, Mary Ann White , Pontiac; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hedges Funeral Home, Osage Beach. Inurnment will be in Lake Memorial Garden Cemetery, Osage Beach.
JENNINGS
William M. Jennings, 70, Topeka, Kan., died Aug. 4, 2000, in Phoenix, Ariz.
He was born June 4, 1930, in Carthage, a son of Leo C. and Doris A. Knowles Jennings. He was married June 3, 1985, in Miami, Okla., to Mary Marna Mortenson, who survives at the home.
He was a 1956 graduate of Pittsburg State University. He worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone for 35 years, retiring in 1990 as a district manager.
He was a member of Orient Lodge 51 and he was past Master in the 1960s. He was a charter inductee of the Kansas Telephone Hall of Fame and a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
He attended Fairlawn Heights Wesleyan Church and was a member of American Legion Capitol Post 1. He was a Navy veteran.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Kim Jennings, Phoenix, and Cathy Smith, Topeka; four sons Brad Jennings and Christopher Jennings, both of Topeka, and Brian Jennings and Scott Jennings, both of Phoenix; one brother, Donald L. Jennings, Jefferson City; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, Topeka. Private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
