NEWTON
Linda Kay Francis Newton, 59, Ellicott City, Md., formerly of California, died June 22, 2000, in Woodstock, Va.
She was born Oct. 27, 1940, in California, a daughter of Harold C. and Hester Mae Baker Francis. Her mother survives in California. She was married Aug. 15, 1959, to George Peyton Newton, who survives at the home.
A 1957 graduate of California High School, she received a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore.
She was an office administrator with Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory until her retirement.
A 37-year resident of Howard County, Md., she was a founding board member of the Howard County Association for Retarded Citizens.
She was a founding member of the Adaptive Living Inc. (ALI) residential program for mentally retarded adults, and co-chair of the task force that founded the Student to Employment Program (STEP).
Other survivors include: one son, Jeffrey Neil Newton, Hockessin, Del.; two daughters, Elaine Francis Newton, Columbia, Md., and Elizabeth Kay Newton, Huntsville, Ala.; one brother, David Francis, Osage Beach; one sister, Rose Williams, California; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at City Cemetery, California. The Rev. Carol Koenig will officiate.
Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Saturday at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, California.
Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.
RINEHART
Services were Tuesday for Charles Rupert Rinehart, 90, Kirksville, formerly of Jefferson City, who died Aug. 4, 2000, at Northeast Regional Medical Center, Kirksville.
He was born July 8, 1910, in Kirksville, a son of Rupert L. and Gertrude Upright Rinehart. He was married in 1939 in Mexico to Ivah Belle Rudasill, who died in 1983.
He graduated from Kirksville High School and received a bachelor's degree from Northeast State Teachers College and a master's degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He pursued a doctoral degree at Northwestern University. He was a teacher, principal and superintendent in the Macon school system, and was superintendent for LaBelle Public Schools.
He supervised the Office of Price Administration in his area during World War II. He worked for the St. Louis Chamber of Commerce for 10 years and the Missouri State Chamber of Commerce in Jefferson City for 20 years. He returned to Kirksville in 1983 to run the Rinehart News Agency. He was a member of the Rotary Club and First United Methodist Church, both in Kirksville.
Survivors include: one son, Chuck Rinehart, Kirksville; and two sisters, Maybelle Willbanks, Kirksville, and Martha Jones, Champagne, Ill.
Services were at Davis-Playle Funeral Home, Kirksville. The Rev. Dennis Smith officiated. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery, Mexico.
PURDHAM
Robert Purdham, 65, Vienna, died Aug. 7, 2000, at Capital Region Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 22, 1934, in Shenandoah, Va., a son of Wilbur and Lena Martin Purdham. He was married Nov. 2, 1954, in Vienna, to Beulah Shanks, who survives at the home.
He was a member of First Christian Church, Shenandoah, but attended Bethel Church of Christ near Vienna.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was productions supervisor at Quaker Window Products Company, Freeburg, from 1954 to 1973.
He was a woodworking supervisor with the Missouri Department of Corrections from 1974 until his retirement in 1994.
Other survivors include: four daughters, Lynne Terpstra, Jefferson City, Mary Ann Hammock, and Janice Lindeman, both of Springfield, and Joyce Huffman, Vienna; one brother, Joseph Purdham, Fredericksburg, Va; two sisters, Dorothy Purdham, Shenandoah, and Ann Meadows, Elkton, Va.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna. Rhys Thomas will officiate. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, near Vienna.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today and from 9-11 a.m. Thursday.
Memorials are suggested to the Friends of the Maries County Library, Vienna.
JOHNSON
Services were today for Donnie Joe Johnson, 63, Fulton, who died Aug. 8, 2000, at University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics.
He was born May 5, 1937, in Stratford, Okla., a son of Euel C. and Addie L. Dyer Johnson. His mother, Addie Hoover, survives in Fulton.
A Navy veteran, he farmed most of his life.
Other survivors include: one brother, James Johnson, Kingdom City; one sister, Judy Crabb, Casa Grande, Ariz.; and one half brother, Virgil Hoover, Vidor, Texas .
Graveside services were in Mount Tabor Cemetery. Leon Richardson officiated.
Arrangements were under the direction of Debo Funeral Home, Fulton.
FIFER
Herbert George Fifer, 86, Jefferson City, died Aug. 8, 2000, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility.
He was born Dec. 26, 1913, in Jefferson City, a son of George and Elizabeth Hoffmeyer Fifer. He was married June 28, 1939, in Meta, to Florence Ber-nadine Graff, who died Oct. 29, 1981.
He owned and operated several service stations in Jefferson City, and farmed in the Osage Bend area until his retirement in 1975.
He was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church, Osage Bend, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Survivors include: one daughter, Beverly Sue Davies, Kansas City; one son, Thomas L. Fifer, Jefferson City; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Margaret Catholic Church. The Rev. Louis E. Dorn and the Rev. John Sheley will officiate. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility or to a charity of the donor's choice.
BAINES
Jake D. Baines, 90, Macks Creek, died Aug. 8, 2000, at Lake Regional Health Center, Osage Beach.
He was born March 1, 1910, in Macks Creek, a son of Joseph and Viola Taylor. He was married Nov. 25, 1936, in Hermitage, to Irene Eidson, who survives at the home.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of Roach Baptist Church and the Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include one son, Allen Baines, Macks Creek, and one granddaughter.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Macks Creek. The Rev. Don Willis will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hedges Funeral Home, Macks Creek.
CAREY
Services for Nelson Olive Carey, 80, Centertown, who died Aug. 2, 2000, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, California.
Arrangements are under the direction of Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home.
HAGENHOFF
Linda Ann Hagenhoff, 42, Centertown, died Aug. 7, 2000, at University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics.
She was born Jan. 25, 1958, in Monroe, Wash., a daughter of Lawrence R. and Suzanne A. Carter Bartelheimer. Her parents survive in Corvallis, Mont. She was married Oct. 25, 1986, in Jefferson City, to Jerome James "Jerry" Hagenhoff, who survives at the home.
A graduate of Mount Tahoma High School in Washington , she was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church. She worked as a driver for the Jefferson City Transit Company and J.H. Ware Trucking Company, Fulton.
She was a travel agent for Travel Answers and Midwest Travel Consultants. Most recently, she was a clerk in the reciprocity division of the Missouri Department of Revenue.
She also is survived by three brothers, Victor Bartelheimer, Granite Falls, Wash., Eldon Bartelheimer, Everett, Wash., and Gary Bartelheimer, Lake Stevens, Wash.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Martin Catholic Church. The Rev. Edwin A. Schmidt will officiate. Burial will be in St. Martin Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

REUSCH
Lawrence H. Reusch, 78, Stover, died Aug. 9, 2000, at Good Shepherd Care Center, Versailles.
He was born Feb. 6, 1922, in Mora, a son of August and Clara Bruehl Reusch. He was married Feb. 3, 1953, in Clear Creek, to Albertha Twenter, who survives at the home.
He attended St. John's Catholic School, Bahner, and was an Army veteran of World War II. He worked for the Missouri Goldfish Hatchery, near Stover, for more than 50 years.
He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Bahner.
Other survivors include: five daughters, Clarine Eckhoff, Sedalia, Brenda Scherlinger, Bosworth, Gloria Hardey, Lincoln, Emily Newman, Versailles, and Linda Reusch, Stover; one sister, Rose Bahner, Sedalia; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Catholic Church, Bahner. The Rev. Jack Behen will officiate. Burial will be in the St. John's Catholic Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7:30 p.m. Friday at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home, Stover, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the St. John's Catholic Church Cemetery Fund.
