PONDER
Wayland L. "Poodle" Ponder, 60, Rocky Mount, formerly of Jefferson City, died Sept. 1, 2000, at St. Marys Health Center.
He was born Jan. 26, 1940, in Jefferson City, a son of Clay P. and Sylvia L. McKee Ponder. He was married June 24, 1974, in Jefferson City, to Donna J. Jackson, who survives at the home.
A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, he attended Jefferson City public schools. He was employed by the Jefferson City Fire Department for 20 years, retiring as a captain in 1981. He also was employed with Cole County Industries for the past 31 years.
He was a member of the International Association of Firefighters Local 671 and the National Rifle Association.
Other survivors include: three sons, Russell G. Ponder, Mexico, and Wayland L. Ponder and Phillip C. Ponder, both of Jefferson City; one daughter, Charla A. Bacon, Stover; one sister, Charlene Heckerman, Jefferson City; two brothers, Roger L. Ponder and Raymond E. Ponder, both of Jefferson City; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Freeman Mortuary. The Rev. George Scantlan will officiate. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery near Marion.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday.
Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Baptist Church.
WALKER
Rita C. Walker, 84, Chamois, died Sept. 1, 2000, at Green Meadows Health Care Center, Linn.
She was born Jan. 25, 1916, in Chamois, a daughter of Frank L. and Helen Jane Glavin Walker.
A lifelong area resident, she lived and worked on the Walker family farm her entire life. She was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Chamois.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Monday at Most Pure Heart of Mary Church. The Rev. Patrick Dowling will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at Morton Funeral Chapel, Chamois, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to Most Pure Heart of Mary Church.
WARD
Paul Henry Ward, 74, Gravois Mills, died Sept. 1, 2000, at Laurie Care Center, Laurie.
He was born Dec. 31, 1925, in Fairdealing, a son of Arthur and Ruth Ward. His mother survives in St. Marys, Kan. He was married June 6, 1949, in Wamego, Kan., to Jacqueline Y. Graf, who survives in Laurie.
He was a retired locomotive engineer for the Santa Fe Railroad.
Other survivors include: four sons, Kenneth Ward, Milford, Kan., Larry Ward, Gardner, Kan., Michael Ward, Kansas City, Kan., and Steven Ward, Clinton; one daughter, Candace Paetzhold, Atlanta, Ga.; four sisters, Ruby McGuire, Kansas City, Kan., Edna Yokum, Rayville, Bonnie Cook, Paola, Kan., and Mary Channel, Rossville, Kan.; and nine grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Laurie. The Rev. Jack Daniel will officiate. Burial will be in Garber Memorial Estates Cemetery, Laurie.
Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday.
COALE
Services were today for Ruby R. Coale, 88, California, Mo., who died Sept. 3, 2000, at Moniteau Care Center, California.
She was born Sept. 6, 1911, in Moniteau County, a daughter of Daniel P. and Katherine Oesch Lehman. She was married Sept. 12, 1930, in Centertown, to Louis Burke "Booker" Coale, who died June 17, 1956.
She attended school in California. A homemaker, she was a member of California United Church of Christ and the president of the Evangeline Sunday school class for more than 30 years.
Survivors include: one son, Jerry Coale, Jefferson City; one daughter, Bettie Hall, California; one sister, Edna Featherstone, Kansas City; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
One daughter, Shirley Jean Goff, died Feb. 3, 1984.
Services were at California United Church of Christ. The Rev. Gary Schulte officiated. Burial was in Evangelical Cemetery, California.

FEELEY
David John Feeley, 67, Gravois Mills, died Aug. 27, 2000, at his home.
He was born Oct. 29, 1932, in Hoboken, N.J., a son of Dewey and Martha Feeley. He was married to Geraldine Verycken, who preceded him in death.
He was a retired printer for the Republic Container Corp., and a member of the U.A.W.
Survivors include: one son, David John Feeley Jr., state of California; four daughters, Theresa Edgar, Laurie, Linda Youngclaus and Nancy Havrick, both of California state, and Diane Feeley, Raymore; two sisters, Susan Vanclief and Martha Feeley, both of New Jersey; and nine grandchildren.
Services will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Westlake Christian Church, Laurie. The Rev. Jack Daniel will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to the church.

RICHARDSON
J. Harry Richardson, 91, Clarksburg, died Sept. 4, 2000, near Clarksburg.
He was born Aug. 9, 1909, in Ripley County, Ind., a son of J. Hadley and Flora Demaree Richardson. He was married June 9, 1942, to Esther McCammon, who survives in Columbia.
He farmed near Clarksburg. He graduated from Purdue University and worked during World War II as an engineer at the Atomic Energy Plant in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
Other survivors include: one son, Garry Richardson, Columbia; two daughters, Ellyn Richardson, Columbia, and DeLoris Michael, Clarksburg; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Wednesday at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, north of California. The Rev. Kevin Blackburn will officiate. Burial will be in Hickman Cemetery, near Clarksburg.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Clarksburg, Mo. 65025.

SANDERS
Holbert Lee Sanders, 61, Prairie Home, died Sept. 3, 2000, at Cooper County Hospital, Boonville.
He was born April 6, 1939, in California, Mo., a son of Oscar D. and Theresa May McDaniel Sanders. He was married to Anna Marie Schull.
He attended Clarksburg High School and served in the Air Force. He worked at Fischer Pool Table Factory, Tipton, and later was a guard with the Missouri Department of Corrections.
He was a member of Clarksburg Baptist Church and of the Moose Lodge in Sedalia for three years.
Survivors include: three sons, James Russell Sanders, Jefferson City, and David Lee Sanders and Gerald Davis Sanders, both of Tipton; four daughters, Sharon Kay Rugen, Syracuse, and Mary Anna Goff, Elizabeth Mae Meyer and Margaret Sue Sanders, all of California; two brothers, Ralph Sanders, California, and Donald Sanders, Elston; one sister, Ruth Huff, Clarksburg; eight grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, California. The Rev. Ivan Dameron will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, north of California.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today.

SCHAEFER
Gertrude M. Schaefer, 88, Loose Creek, died Sept. 3, 2000, at Green Meadows Health Care Center, Linn.
She was born Jan. 11, 1912, in Loose Creek, a daughter of William and Elizabeth Linnebrink Schlangstein. She was married Nov. 19, 1931, in Loose Creek, to Gerhard J. Schaefer, who survives at the home.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Loose Creek, and St. Ann's Sodality.
Other survivors include: three sons, Sylvester "Ches" Schaefer, Wichita, Kan., Vincent Schaefer, Loose Creek, and Larry Schaefer, St. Louis; two daughters, Bernice Kliethermes, Linn, and Elizabeth Waggoner, Anchorage, Alaska; 26 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Church, Loose Creek. The Rev. Gregory Meystrik will officiate. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery, Loose Creek.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Morton Funeral Home, Linn, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
GILPIN
Joe N. Gilpin, 70, Ashland, died Sept. 5, 2000, at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia.
He was born March 25, 1930, in Ashland, a son of Troce and Nellie Martin Gilpin. He was married June 24, 1950, in Ashland, to Carolyn White . He was married March 22, 1979, in Denver, to Twila Mae Fitzhugh, who survives in Ashland.
He was a building contractor and commercial construction superintendent for Lobar Construction and Jeff Smith Construction until his retirement in 1982. He helped establish JJ's Restaurant and Bakery, Ashland, in 1980. He served on the Ashland School Board in 1968.
Other survivors include: eight sons, Jerry Gilpin, Brian Gilpin and Jeff Fitzhugh, all of Ashland, Lennie Gilpin, Jefferson City, Terry Hershberger, Medford, Ore., Perry Hershberger, Casper, Wyo., and Jerry Hershberger and Robert Brown, both of Douglas, Wyo.; two daughters, Kathy Middaugh, Ashland, and Carol Carpenter, Medford; one brother, Lonnie Gilpin, Ashland; one sister, Margaret Old, Ashland; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
One son preceded him in death.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Robinson Funeral Home, Ashland. Burial will be in Woodcrest Cemetery, Ashland.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday.
