GILMORE

Helen M. Gilmore, 90, California, died April 6, 1999, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born Oct. 16, 1908, in Moniteau County, a daughter of Newt and Ollie Allee Birdsong. She was married Jan. 11, 1927, in California, to Charlie W. Gilmore, who died Oct. 15, 1994.

She worked for the state of Missouri as a clerk and was a member of First Baptist Church, California. She was a 1927 graduate of California High School.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Two daughters, Mardella Gilmore and DeAubra Jane Reed, preceded her in death.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, California. The Rev. Greg Morrow will officiate. Burial will be in California City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church-Building Fund, 208 South Oak Street, California, Mo. 65018.

ROARK

Dennis "Shorty" Roark, 44,  Jefferson City, died April 6, 1999, at his home.

He was born March 30, 1955, in  Jefferson City, a son of Eugene and Delphine Schauwecker Roark. His mother and stepfather, Delphine and Leslie McMillan, survive in Co-lumbia. He was married Aug. 22, 1975, in  Jefferson City, to Linda Adkins, who survives at the home.

He was a graduate of  Jefferson City High School and the Kansas City School of Auctioneering.

He worked for Laborer's Union 662 and Teamster's Union Local 813. He owned Shorty Roark and Sons Auctioneering, where he was an auctioneer. He served one term as a  Jefferson City councilman. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2693 and Memorial Baptist Church.

Other survivors include: two sons, Jarad Roark,  Jefferson City, and Pfc. Brad Roark, Fort Bragg, N.C.; one daughter, April Roark, of the home; and four sisters, Cheryle Kelly, Russellville, Victoria Morris,  Jefferson City, Sandra Brown, California, and Veronica Porter, Clarksburg.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home. The Rev. David Phelps will officiate. Burial will be in St. Martins Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials are suggested to Compassionate Friends, P.O. Box 381,  Jefferson City, Mo. 65101.

BEEKMAN

John D. Beekman, 60,  Jefferson City, died April 6, 1999, at St. Marys Health Center.

He was born Sept. 26, 1938, in St. Louis, a son of Alfred and Lorraine Jones Beekman. He was married Jan. 17, 1959, in St. Louis, to Gertrude Cornell, who survives at the home.

He served 36 years in the Army and Air Force, achieving the rank of chief master sergeant before he retired. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and received the Silver Star and the Bronze Star. He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church.

Other survivors include: two sons, John Michael Beekman, Pinole, Calif., and Richard Keith Beekman,  Jefferson City; two daughters, Vicki Lynne Hiland, Russellville, and Debra Ann Collingwood, Marysville, Calif.; four brothers, Lawrence Beekman, Kenneth Beekman, Robert Beekman and David Beekman; two sisters, Virginia Raybrook and Ruth Armes; and four grandchildren.

Private services with full military honors will be Friday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home. The Rev. Scott Musselman will officiate.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

CAMPBELL

Charles C. Campbell, 86, Linn, died April 7, 1999, at Green Meadows Health Care Center, Linn.

He was born March 17, 1913, in Osage County, a son of Richard L. and Annie E. Potts Campbell. He was married June 26, 1941, in Chamois, to Marjorie Pinet, who survives at the home.

A lifelong area resident, he owned and operated Campbell Brothers Equipment Co. He also owned and operated Campbell's Backhoe Service until his retirement.

He was a lifetime member of St. Johns United Methodist Church, Linn, and Linn Masonic Lodge 326 A.F. & A.M., Royal Arch Masons. He served on the Linn R-2 School Board and the Linn Industrial Development Corp.

Other survivors include: two sons, Gayle Campbell and Keith Campbell, both of Linn; one daughter, Karen Campbell, Linn; three sisters, Hallie Scrivner and Lorene Jones, both of  Jefferson City, and Neva Whitted, Dennison, Texas ; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Morton Funeral Home, Linn. The Rev. Tony Townley and Eric Braman will officiate. Burial will be in Linn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to St. Johns United Methodist Church or to the Alzheimers Association.

CATO

Glenda B. Cato, 53, Iberia, died April 6, 1999, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born March 5, 1946, in Monett, a daughter of Samuel and Viola McKinney Gibson. She was married in June 1962, in Torrance, Calif., to Robert Forrest Cato, who died May 8, 1982.

Survivors include: one son, William R.F. Cato II, Brumley; two daughters, Tina Boileau,  Jefferson City, and Terri Buese, Anderson; five brothers, Robert G. Gibson, St. Anthony, and Samuel E. Gibson, Jerry W. Gibson and Jimmy D. Gibson, all of Alaska, and Gary L. Gibson, Central America; her fiance, Karl McDowell, Iberia; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia. The Rev. Rick Hargrove will officiate. Burial will be in Livingston Cemetery, near Iberia.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday.

Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association.

HATFIELD

Gertrude H. "Gertie" Hatfield, 85,  Jefferson City, died April 6, 1999, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility.

She was born June 30, 1913, in Hartsburg, a daughter of Henry C. and Lydia Joerling Becker. She was married Nov. 6, 1951, in  Jefferson City, to Chester L. Hatfield, who preceded her in death.

She attended school in Boone County and was employed at Obermans Manufacturing Company from 1940 to 1953. A lifelong resident of Central Missouri, she co-founded Hatfield's Cafe in 1953. She retired in 1975.

Other survivors include: one son, Dick Hatfield,  Jefferson City; one daughter, Leanne Roller, Kansas City; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Freeman Mortuary. Graveside services will be in Friedens United Church of Christ Cemetery, Brazito.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Friday.

Memorials are suggested to Boy Scout Troup 2 Campership Fund or the Brenna Siebert Memorial Fund c/o the Heart of Missouri Humane Society.

JOHNSON

Fred Howard Johnson, 69, Lake Ozark, died April 6, 1999, at his home.

He was born June 14, 1929, in Kansas City, a son of Claude H. and Sarah Jane McClure Johnson. He was married Oct. 22, 1954, in Kansas City, to Annabelle Lee Tompkins, who survives at the home.

He was a member of Gravois Mills Methodist Church and VFW Post 5902, Gravois Mills. He served in the Navy for 14 years and worked as a pastry chef before retiring. He lived in the Lake area for the last 29 years.

Other survivors include: three sons, Claude Johnson, Independence, and Jerry Johnson and Ralph Johnson, both of Lake Ozark; four daughters, Sherry Hoffecker, Liberty, Kelly Kauffman, Kansas City, Shannon Robson, Kearney, and Terri Johnson, Eldon; one sister, Susan Selle, Missouri City; and 15 grandchildren.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Allee-Reed Funeral Home, Camdenton. The Rev. R. Wayne Cooper will officiate. Burial will be in Allee Memorial Gardens, Camdenton.

Memorials are suggested to the Lake Ozark Area Home Health and Hospice, P.O. Box 498, Crocker, Mo. 65452, or to the family for the Cardiac-Pulmonary Rehabilitation Service at Lake of the Ozarks General Hospital.

SIMS

Florence Sims, 85, Mexico, died April 7, 1999, at Audrain Medical Center, Mexico.

She was born Sept. 8, 1913, in Mexico, a daughter of Seaton A. and Delsie Lena Dudley Owen. She was married Nov. 7, 1947, in Mexico, to Wallace Howard Sims, who survives at the home.

A lifelong resident of Mexico, she worked at Florsheim Shoe Factory and co-owned and co-operated Sims Shoe Store.

She was a 50-year member of First Christian Church, Mexico.

Other survivors include: one son, James Kennedy,  Jefferson City; one daughter, Opal Robertson, Lowell, Ark.; two brothers, Walter Owen and Dewey Payton, both of Mexico; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

One son, Robert Kennedy, preceded her in death.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pickering Funeral Home, Mexico. The Rev. Randall Sawyer and the Rev. Robert H. Marty will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Mexico.

Visitation will be from noon-2 p.m. Saturday.

Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church, Mexico.

TAYLOR

John Franklin Taylor, 33, Madison, formerly of Mokane, died April 6, 1999, in Audrain County.

He was born Dec. 5, 1965, in Mexico, a son of Andrew J. and Connie Holzhauser Taylor. His parents survive in Mokane.

He graduated from South Callaway High School in 1984 and was a former member of Laborers Union 662.

He owned and operated John F. Taylor Trucking since 1994. He also farmed.

Other survivors include: two sons, Robert Joseph Taylor and Kenneth Andrew Taylor, both of Mokane; one brother, Richard Nelson Taylor, Mokane; maternal grandmother, Edith Holzhauser, Portland; paternal grandmother, Orlue Taylor, Mokane; and his fiancee, Jennifer Sager, Madison.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Maupin Funeral Home, Fulton. Burial will be in Mokane Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to the Robert Joseph Taylor and Kenneth Andrew Taylor Education Fund, c/o Maupin Funeral Home, 301 Douglas Blvd., Fulton, Mo. 65251.

WALLS

Raymond Leon Walls, 43,  Jefferson City, died April 3, 1999, in Cole County.

He was born May 15, 1955, in  Jefferson City, a son of Bonnie Walls.

His mother survives in  Jefferson City.

He attended  Jefferson City public schools and was em-ployed as a construction worker with Local Laborers Union 662.

He was a member of the Baptist church.

Other survivors include: two sons, Jessie Ray Osborne and Jason Lee Walls, both of the home; one daughter, Sharry Lee Walls,  Jefferson City; and one grandchild.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Buescher Memorial Home. The Rev. Thomas W. Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to the Raymond Walls Fund.
