CHILDRESS
Dorothy Grace Douras Childress, 73, Jamestown, died Sept. 18, 2000, at her home.
She was born Jan. 13, 1927, in Chicago, a daughter of Grace Douras. She was married Oct. 19, 1967, in the state of Michigan, to Kenneth Childress, who survives at the home.
Other survivors include one son, Don Douglas Stilson, Lupus, and one grandchild.
One daughter, Pamela Joyce Stilson, died in 1968.
No services are planned. The remains were cremated.
Arrangements are under the direction of Weber and Sons Funeral Home, California.
BEYER
Services were today for Alexis Ruth Ann Beyer, infant daughter of Terral and Christina Pankey Beyer, Springfield, who died shortly after birth, Sept. 14, 2000, at Cox Medical Center, Springfield.
Her parents survive at the home.
Other survivors include: paternal grandparents, Terral Beyer and Ruth Ann Yother; and maternal grandparents David Lee Pankey and Elizabeth E. Carol.
Services were at First Baptist Church, Macks Creek. The Rev. Dinzel Webb officiated.
Arrangements were under the direction of Hedges Funeral Home, Macks Creek.
HESSLER
Catherine Mary Hessler, 72, formerly of Russellville, died Sept. 18, 2000, at Jefferson City Manor Nursing Center.
She was born Aug. 11, 1928, in St. Louis, a daughter of Lester and Mary Dunn Tucker. She was married in 1960 to Edmond Hessler, who died in 1995.
She was employed at Emerson Electric until retiring.
She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Russellville.
Survivors include: one son, Raymond Tucker, Jefferson City; three daughters, Teresa Everts, Eugene, and Karen Hessler and Mary Carpenter, both of St. Louis; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael Catholic Church. Sister Donna Eggering will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michael Catholic Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Weber and Sons Funeral Home, Russellville.
JONES
Orvis M. Jones, 80, Jefferson City, died Sept. 19, 2000, at Jefferson City Manor Nursing Center.
He was born July 29, 1920, in Dodge County, Ga., a son of William C. and Margaret L. Cook Jones.
He graduated from high school in McRae, Ga., and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was employed as an electrician in the maintenance department of Scholastic Inc. until his retirement in 1988.
He was a member of New Bloomfield Baptist Church and a past member of the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5.
Survivors include one son, William B. Jones, Alton, Ill., three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services, with military honors, will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 1:30-2 p.m. Thursday at Freeman Mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
KORDES
Elmer H. Kordes, 89, Gravois Mills, died Sept. 18, 2000, at Laurie Care Center, Laurie.
He was born Jan. 31, 1911, in Wellington, a son of August and Emma Broenstrup Kordes. He was married Oct. 18, 1936, to Mildred E. Weissenbach, who survives at the home.
He had been a building contractor at the Lake of the Ozarks for about 30 years.
An Army veteran, he was a member of Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church, Laurie, and the Hurricane Deck Lions Club.
Before moving to the Lake area, he worked in Richmond, Calif., and owned and operated several parking lots in Kansas City.
Other survivors include: one son, Kevin E. Kordes, Osage, Okla.; and two granddaughters.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church, Laurie. The Rev. James Lawley will officiate. Burial will be in Garber Memorial Estates Cemetery, Laurie.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Laurie.
Memorials are suggested to Parkinson's research or Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church.
LEMUS
Diana Corona Lemus, 6, Knob Noster, died Sept. 16, 2000, as a result of a residential fire in California.
She was born June 10, 1994, in Lindside, Calif., a daughter of Benigno and Elivira Lemus Corona, who survive in Knob Noster.
She was a student at Knob Noster Elementary School and attended St. Patricks Catholic Church.
Other survivors include: one brother, Pedro Aurclio Corona, California; and her grandparents, Benigno Corona, Loreto Martinez, Rafael Lemus and Estela Rungel, all of Puruandiro Michoacan, Mexico.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Annunciation Catholic Church, California. Msgr. Francis Gillgannon will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9-10:30 a.m. Friday, at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, California, with a prayer service at 9 a.m.
Memorials are suggested to Corona-Magana Families Trust Fund, c/o Central Bank, 329 South Oak St., California.
MARTIN
Bernice Sunday Kanoelani Martin, 46, Camdenton, died Sept. 16, 2000, near Camdenton.
She was born Aug. 22, 1954, in Honolulu, Hawaii, a daughter of James and Bernice McCoy McCarthy. Her father survives in Nevada, Mo.
She attended high school at Nevada. She moved to the Lake area in 1990 and worked at Whiskers as a cook. She was a Mormon.
Other survivors include: two sons, Daniel Robert Righter Jr., Linn Creek, and Jefferson James Righter, Norfolk, Va.; one daughter, Misty Jean Righter, Springfield; one brother, Frank McCarthy; and two sisters, Blanche French, Judith Gap, Mont., and Coila Adams, Indian Hills, Colo.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Camdenton. The Rev. Dean Rooffener will officiate. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Newton Cemetery, Nevada.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. -1 p.m. Wednesday.
PIKE
Ronald Eugene Pike, 52, Camdenton, died Sept. 16, 2000, near Camdenton.
He was born June 26, 1948, in Kansas City, a son of Estell E. and Marjorie Schaller Pike. His mother survives in Parkville.
He graduated from Excelsior Springs High School in 1966. He had lived in Appleton, Wis., where he worked for Miller Electric. He moved to Camdenton in 1982 and had been working as a manager of Mid-America Air Gas of Camdenton. He served on the advisory council for the Lake Career and Technical Center.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Janelle Keeney, Camdenton; one son, Jaret Pike, Kansas City; two brothers, Larry Pike and John Pike, both of Parkville; one sister, Gayle Frost, Lexington; and two grandsons.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Camdenton. The Rev. Tracy Carroll will officiate. Burial will be in Allee Memorial Garden.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
SCHMITZ
Henry W. "Hank" Schmitz, 56, Jefferson City, died Sept. 18, 2000, at St. Marys Health Center.
He was born Sept. 22, 1943, in Jefferson City, a son of Harry M. and Elizabeth V. Pfenenger Schmitz.
He attended Helias High School and served in the Air Force from 1961 to 1968. A past resident of the state of California, he worked for Englenook Winery. He was a member of the American Legion. He returned to Jefferson City in January.
Survivors include: one daughter, Patricia Ann Rogers, Jefferson City; one sister, Betty I. Masters, Jefferson City; four grandchildren; and two step grandchildren.
His stepfather, Harvey Quigley, preceded him in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Buescher Memorial Home. The Rev. Randy Dignan will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1:30-2 p.m. Wednesday.
