IMLER

Shirley Jean Owen Imler, 72, Kansas City, Kan., died Oct. 11, 2000, at Select Specialty Hospital, Kansas City, Kan.

She was born Sept. 22, 1928, in Richmond, a daughter of Benjamin F. and Daisey Dean Blair Tucker.

A graduate of Richmond High School, she had lived in the Richmond and Kansas City areas for most of her life.

Survivors include one daughter, Paula J. Owen Willmarth,  Jefferson City, and one sister, Mary Tucker Aldrich,  Jefferson City.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Sunny Slope Cemetery, Richmond.

Visitation will be from 1-1:45 p.m. Saturday at Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

GRAHAM

Thomas D. Graham, 77,  Jefferson City, died Oct. 12, 2000, at his home.

He was born Oct. 14, 1922, in St. Louis, a son of Charles E. and Margaret Cuthbertson Graham. He was married April 22, 1944, to Christine Wood, who died April 20, 1998.

He attended  Jefferson City public schools and was a recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award. He also attended the University of Missouri. An Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he practiced law in  Jefferson City for 50 years. From 1951 to 1973, he was in the Missouri House of Representatives, serving three terms as Speaker of the House from 1961 to 1967.

He was president of the National Legislative Conference from 1966 to 1967, and commissioner of the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws. He was vice-chairman of the Missouri-New York World's Fair Commission.

He was a member of First Christian Church and a past member of  Jefferson Lodge 43, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, Ancient and Accepted Order of Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, Moolah Temple, St. Louis. He was a member of the Missouri Bar, Phi Gamma Delta social fraternity and Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity.

He was on the Board of Directors of the  Jefferson City Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Trustees of Memorial Community Hospital. He served as president of the Cole County Chapter, University of Missouri Alumni Association, and the Cole County Bar Association. He was a merit badge counselor for Boy Scouts of America.

Survivors include one son, Christopher Graham,  Jefferson City, and three granddaughters.

Graveside services will be at a later date.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at First Christian Church.

Memorials are suggested to the Thomas D. and Christine Wood Graham Scholarship Fund, in care of the  Jefferson City Public Schools, 315 E. Dunklin St.,  Jefferson City, Mo. 65101.

Arrangements are under the direction of Morton Funeral Home, Linn.

SCHAEFER

Helen M. Schaefer, 60,  Jefferson City, died Oct. 14, 2000, at Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, Columbia.

She was born March 10, 1940, in Argyle, a daughter of William and Anna Hilke Reinkemeyer. She was married Nov. 18, 1961, in Argyle, to Charles L. Schaefer, who survives at the home.

A 1959 graduate of Fatima High School, she was bookkeeper and co-owner of Schaefer Brothers Construction Inc. for 31 years. She also worked for the Missouri Department of Revenue and Mark Twain Life Insurance Co.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Immaculata Club. She was a volunteer and fundraiser for Hospice of  Jefferson City and Mid-Missouri, and an annual participant in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life.

Other survivors include: three sisters, Dolores Larson, Portland, Ore., Laura Knight, Richland, Wash., and Hootie Owens, Peoria, Ill.; and three brothers, Vincent Reinkemeyer and Fred Reinkemeyer, both of Meta, and Jim Reinkemeyer, St. Thomas.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, St. Thomas. The Rev. Gregory L. Higley and the Rev. Donald J. Antweiler will officiate. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 8:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to Immaculate Conception School, St. Thomas the Apostle School or Hospice of  Jefferson City and Mid-Missouri.

MORRISON

Wilma J. Morrison, 76, Gravois Mills, died Oct. 14, 2000, at Capital Region Medical Center.

She was born Dec. 13, 1923, in Stearns, Ky., a daughter of Brack and Vera Sloan Foster. She was married March 26, 1955, in  Jefferson City, to Millard Lee Morrison, who survives at the home.

She was a homemaker.

Other survivors include: one son, Allen Lyons, Blue Springs; two daughters, Patricia Hunt, Laguna Beach, Calif., and Sandra K. Semple, Surprise, Ariz.; one brother, Donald Foster, Sunrise Beach; one sister, Alma Lemmon, Kansas City; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Laurie. The Rev. James Lawley will officiate. Inurnment will be in Garber Memorial Estates Cemetery, Laurie.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.

HOWARD

Betty Jeanette Howard, 62, Linn, died Oct. 16, 2000, at her home.

She was born Aug. 2, 1938, in Belgrade, a daughter of Clifford and Edith Record Gilliam. Her mother survives in Linn. She was married May 23, 1955, in Norfolk, Va., to Gary R. Howard, who survives at the home.

A resident of Osage County since 1967, she was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Linn.

Other survivors include: one son, Brad Howard, Denver; two daughters, Faye Isom,  Jefferson City, and Kaye Barns, Loose Creek; two brothers, Jim Miller, Almagardo, N.M., and David Gilliam, Bourbon; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Linn. The Rev. David Krueger will officiate. Burial will be in Cave Spring Cemetery, Cave Spring.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Morton Funeral Home, Linn.

Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church Building Fund, Linn.

JAMES

Dorothy Duncan James, 93, Waukesha, Wis., formerly of Iberia, died Oct. 11, 2000, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital.

She was born Dec. 23, 1906, a daughter of Dr. G.W. and Myrtle Ramsey Duncan. In July 1930, she was married to O.G. James, who died Sept. 25, 1975.

She was a retired teacher who taught in Eldon, Waynesville, Dixon, and other surrounding schools. She was a former resident of  Jefferson City and Columbia. She was a member of the Iberia First Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Jane and John Martens of Hartland, Wis.; one grandson, Dan Tate; and two great-grandsons, Dan Tate and Matthew Tate.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. The Rev. Glen Golden will officiate.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Monday. Burial will follow in Iberia Cemetery.

GRIFFEY

Shirley May Griffey, 71, of Chamois, died Oct. 14, 2000, at Capital Region Medical Center.

She was born July 2, 1929, in St. Louis, a daughter of Sherman and Grace Stevens Martin.

As a girl, she attended St. Louis schools. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Chamois and the Women's Missionary Union. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include: five sons, John Rogers, Stoutland, Frank Rogers,  Jefferson City, Daniel Rogers, Belle, Orville Griffey, Middlebrook, and Charles Griffey, Ironton; one daughter, Roseann Engelbrecht,  Jefferson City; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Sippel.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Chamois. The Rev. Larry Hendrickson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Chamois City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 pm. Monday at the Meyer-Hilke-Millard Funeral Home in Chamois.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the First Baptist Church.

SMITH

Tony Walker Smith, 88, of Camdenton, died Oct. 13, 2000, in Windsor Estates Care Center in Camdenton.

He was born March 27, 1912, near Carterville, a son of Marion Franklin and Stella Rose Peterson Smith. He was married on Dec. 15, 1956, to Mary Catherine Barnert, who died Aug. 13, 2000.

He was born and raised in the Carterville community. He served in the Army from 1930 to 1933. He started working for the Carthage Police Department as an officer, then eventually became the chief of police. He later moved to Arizona, where he continued as an officer. He moved to Springfield in 1970, then in 1975 to Camdenton, where he bought a grocery and liquor store, which he and his wife operated until retiring in 1980. He was a Baptist.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow in the Allee Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

SANDWEG

Mary Sandweg, 83, of Argyle, died Oct. 13, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center, in Peoria, Ill.

She was born Aug. 9, 1917, in St. Louis, a daughter of Herman and Agnes Crowley Henrichs. She was married June 27, 1936, in St. Charles to Fred E. Sandweg, who died on Dec. 28, 1999.

She was a licensed practical nurse and a homemaker.

Survivors include: one daughter, Margaret Harmon, Elmwood, Ill.; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday in the St. Aloysius Catholic Church. The Rev. Mike Murphy will officiate.

Visitation will be from 10 -11 a.m. Burial will be in the St. Aloysius Cemetery.
