WATKINS

Kermit Christopher Watkins, 91,  Jefferson City, died Nov. 1, 2000, in  Jefferson City.

He was born Nov. 1, 1909, in Craborchard, Ky., a son of Christopher C. and Lodimma Gouge Metcalf. He was adopted by Charles and Alice Watkins. He was married to Doris Hostetter, who survives at the home.

He was a 1927 graduate of Fort Collins High School and a 1931 graduate of William Jewell College, Liberty, where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. He received a master's degree from Colorado A & M College (later Colorado State University), and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Kansas in 1955.

He worked for the state of Colorado from 1932 to 1946, including five years as principal auditor. He left his position as assistant chief of taxation in 1946 to become instructor in accounting at Rockhurst College, Kansas City. While at Rockhurst College, he was chairman of the Department of Economics, Business and Industrial Relations, director of the evening classes and associate professor.

He was treasurer and director of Fotocrafters Inc., Kansas City. In 1955, he became professor of economics and chairman of the Department of Economics and Business Administration at William Jewell College. He retired in 1978.

He was a founder of the Missouri Valley Economics Association, serving as a director and as president in 1962. He was a complimentary member of the American Economic Association and a member of the American Accounting Association, the Midwest Economic Association and the National Tax Association.

He was a member of Second Baptist Church, Liberty.

Other survivors include: one son, James Christopher Watkins; one daughter, Julia W. Thompson; one sister, Julia Reynolds; and one grandson.

No services are planned.

Memorials are suggested to the Economics and Business Department at William Jewell College or to the American Heart Association.

Arrangements are under the direction of Houser-Millard Funeral Home.

BOHRN

Raymond Oliver Bohrn, 88, Eldon, died Oct. 30, 2000, in Osage Beach.

He was born June 12, 1912, in Ironton, a son of Oliver F. and Ethyl Johnston Bohrn. He was married Oct. 7, 1932, to Zella Duncan, who died July 4, 1991.

He was a farmer and a construction worker. He was a member of the Foot of the Cross Church, Eldon.

Survivors include: three sons, Clarence Bohrn, Olean, and Bill Bohrn and Frank Bohrn, both of Eldon; six daughters, Judy Bailey, Betty Bailey, Songia Seale and Naomi Cotten, all of Eldon, Fern Boyer, Sullivan, and Rhoda Walski, St. Peters; 22 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren.

One son, Sammy Dean Bohrn, died Dec. 5, 1994. Two grandsons also preceded him in death.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. The Rev. Truman Hodge will officiate. Burial will be in Greenmore Memorial Gardens, Barnett.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

McKINNEY

Howard Milford McKinney, 79, Russellville, died Oct. 31, 2000, at St. Marys Health Center.

He was born June 19, 1921, in Paydown, a son of Jesse L. and Josie Walker McKinney. He was married April 15, 1943, in Fulton, to Elizabeth Marie Schroer, who survives at the home.

He worked for several years with Hunter Brothers Construction Company and later co-owned Ott Electric Company from 1955 until his retirement in 1980. An Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he was a 50-year member of Roscoe Enloe American Legion Post 5.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Glenda Gail Sheahan,  Jefferson City, and Judy Ann Berhorst, Russellville; four sisters, Jewell Davis, St. Louis, Erma Jean Loesch, Ava, Helen Frierdick, Columbia, Ill., and Doris Moore, Glendale, Ariz.; four brothers, Kenneth McKinney, Wentzville, Glenn McKinney and Bill McKinney, both of Holts Summit, and Clarence McKinney, Warrenton; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Private services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

Private visitation will be from 8:30-10 a.m. Thursday.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.

HARMON

Harriet Esther Harmon, 83, Eldon, died Oct. 30, 2000, at her home.

She was born Dec. 16, 1916, in Purcell, Okla., a daughter of Edward L. and Ruth Hodge McElderry. She was married in February 1945 in Stillwater, Okla., to Dr. Karl S. Harmon, who died Dec. 26, 1988.

She was a homemaker and a Methodist.

Survivors include: two sons, Tom Harmon, Etterville, and Rufus Harmon,  Jefferson City; two daughters, Helen Harmon, Bulverde, Texas , and Lois Michie, Kemp, Texas ; one sister, Helen Muncrief, Marlow, Okla.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Rekus Funeral Home, Eldon. The Rev. Jay Quinn will officiate.

Memorials are suggested to the Eldon Public Library.

WOODS

Lois E. Robinson Woods, 87, Virginia Beach, Va., formerly of  Jefferson City, died Oct. 28, 2000, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Virginia Beach.

She was born Feb. 23, 1913, a daughter of Charles E. "Lefty" and Verna Robinson. She was married to Dr. Roy A. Woods, who survives.

Other survivors include: one son, John S. Woods, Virginia Beach; one brother, Charles E. Robinson Sr., Cambridge, Mass.; two sisters, Frances Robinson Johnson, Boston, and Marjorie Robinson Anderson,  Jefferson City; and two grandsons.

Services will be Friday in Norfolk, Va. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Longview Cemetery. The Rev. Cornell Sudduth will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Houser-Millard Funeral Home.

GEORGE

William M. "Billy" George, 74, Boonville, formerly of California, died Nov. 1, 2000, at University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics.

He was born June 28, 1926, in Centertown, a son of Melvin W. and Mary Gertrude Less George. His mother survives in Boonville.

He attended Jamestown High School. He was a truck driver for trucking firms in the Boonville area, retiring in 1988. He also worked at Holsom Bakery in Boonville. He attended United Church of Christ in Boonville. He was a member of Eagles Aerie 1027, Oddfellows Lodge 4 and was past commander and member of American Legion Post 52, all in Boonville.

Survivors include: one son, Michael David George, Carrollton; several grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

One son, Joe Edward George, died March 28, 1997.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Evangelical Cemetery, California. The Rev. Karen Nelson will officiate.

Visitation will be from noon-1 p.m. Friday at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, California.

Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.

GORDON

Donald Bishop Gordon, 89, Columbia, died Oct. 30, 2000, at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia.

He was born Sept. 21, 1911, in Chicago, a son of Alexander L. and Lillian Ratcliffe Gordon. He was married Aug. 10, 1940, to Marion Bay, who died July 6, 1999.

A former St. Louis resident, he was a 1933 graduate of Westminster College, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He earned a master's degree in French literature from Washington University, St. Louis. He studied at Sorbonne University, Paris, France, and attended Laval University in Quebec.

He returned to Westminster in 1936 to teach French. He also served as registrar, chairman of the Department of Modern Languages and dean. He coached the golf team.

He was named Distinguished Service Professor in 1975 and was given the 1983 award for the alumnus who contributed the most to student life. He retired from Westminster in 1976 as dean emeritus.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church for 64 years. He was a church elder and clerk of the session. He was a member and president of the Fulton Country Club and a 55-year member of the Fulton Rotary Club.

He contributed to the World Book Encyclopedia and had a book of light verse, "You'll Love Paris," published in 1957. He was elected president of the Modern Language Association of Missouri in 1961.

Survivors include: two daughters, Martha Gordon Oestreich, Jensen Beach, Fla., and Emily Gordon Frazier, Columbia; one brother, Conway Lee Gordon, LaJolla, Calif.; and two granddaughters.

His remains were donated to the University of Missouri Department of Anatomy.

Services will be held at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church in Fulton or to Westminster College.

Arrangements are under the direction of Debo Funeral Home, Fulton.

MANN

Virginia D. Mann, 61, Sunrise Beach, died Nov. 1, 2000, at Capital Region Medical Center.

She was born April 15, 1939, in Maryville, a daughter of Harold and Lucille Persons Pranter. She was married May 10, 1991, to Joe Mann, who survives at the home.

She was a self-employed manufacturer's representative and a member of United Methodist Church, Lebanon.

Other survivors include: one son, Alan Noe, Springfield; two daughters, Diane Miles and Nancy Colvin, both of Kansas City; two stepdaughters, Johnna Wellman, Pomme de Terre, and Jan Hutton, Lebanon; eight grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church, Laurie. The Rev. James Lawley will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Rose Memorial Park Cemetery, Lebanon.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Laurie.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
