LANG

Lawrence Joseph Lang, 70, Pilot Grove, died Nov. 13, 2000, at Ashley Manor Care Center, Boonville.

He was born Aug. 13, 1930, in Cooper County, a son of Joseph A. and Rosa Marie Lang. He was married Oct. 22, 1955, in Pilot Grove, to Carol Jean Schweitzer, who survives at the home.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pilot Grove. He was a an Army veteran of the Korean War. He worked at several grain elevators and he was retired from Fertilizer/AG Lime Control Service University of Missouri Agriculture.

He was a member of the Pilot Grove Lions Club; Knights of Columbus, Clear Creek; American Legion Post 266, Pilot Grove; and St. Joseph Parish Council. He served on the Pilot Grove City Council, the Pilot Grove Public School Board and St. Martins Cemetery Board. He assisted in the founding of the Pilot Grove Athletic Association and was manager of the Pilot Grove Little League.

Other survivors include: three sons, Joe Lang, Sugar Land, Texas , Jim Lang, Columbia, and Jeff Lang, Kingsville, Texas ; two daughters, Linda Bell, Sedalia, and Jeanne Lange, Charleston, S.C.; one brother, Raymond Lang, Boonville; four sisters, Alice Quinlan and Doris Twenter, both of Pilot Grove, and Helen Franken and Norma Franken, both of Tipton; and eight grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Fr. Eric Schlachter and Fr. Don Lammers will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Church with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to Pilot Grove Athletic Association or St. Joseph Church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Meisenheimer Funeral Home, Pilot Grove.

LYNES

Hollie Z. Lynes, 98,  Jefferson City, died Nov. 13, 2000, at her home.

She was born Oct. 24, 1902, in Boone County, a daughter of James and Sarah Brown Zumwalt. She was married Dec. 22, 1920, in Boone County, to Joseph D. Lynes, who died March 19, 1949.

She was a lifelong resident of Central Missouri and she attended school in rural Boone County. A homemaker, she was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Boone County.

Survivors include: two daughters, Aleene Hart, Coldwater, Ohio, and Lurgie Buckner,  Jefferson City; one son, Jim Lynes,  Jefferson City; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Freeman Mortuary. The Rev. Dan Todd will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Boone County.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Thursday.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

SMITH

Anna Kathryn Smith, 98, Fulton, died Nov. 13, 2000, at Fulton Nursing and Rehab.

She was born June 27, 1902, in Concord, a daughter of Lula Emmons Smith. She was married to Harry Smith, who died Oct. 6, 1965.

A retired bank teller, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Fulton and Rebekah Lodge.

Survivors include: one daughter, Betty Ausfahl, Fulton; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

One daughter, Peggy Ann Reeder, preceded her in death.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Debo Funeral Home, Fulton.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Leukemia Society of America.

WILSON

Wray Wilson, 61, Stover, died Nov. 13, 2000, at his home.

Arrangements are at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home, Stover.

BLANDFORD

Don Blandford, 67, Rocky Mount, died Nov. 14, 2000, in Rocky Mount.

He was born Oct. 21, 1933, in St. Louis, a son of Charles J. and Ida Jones Blandford. He was married Sept. 21, 1996, in Rocky Mount, to Bobbie Fox, who survives at the home.

A truck driver, he was a member of Teamsters Local 600 for 35 years. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War, and a past officer and member of AmVets Post 108.

No services are planned.

Arrangements are under the direction of Phillips Funeral Home.

HUNKE

Vivian Allene Hunke, 88,  Jefferson City, died Nov. 15, 2000, at Capital Region Medical Center.

She was born June 18, 1912, in Red Bird, a daughter of Tony and Mamie Satterfield Spurgeon. She was married March 3, 1934, in Owensville, to Henry Louis Hunke, who died July 12, 1992.

She taught school and co-operated Hunke's Department Store in Owensville and Linn. She was a member of Concord Baptist Church, Royal Neighbors of America and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a charter member of First Baptist Church, Linn.

Survivors include one daughter, Helen Voss,  Jefferson City, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Gottenstroeter Funeral Home, Owensville. The Rev. David Krueger will officiate. Burial will be in Owensville City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:30-9 p.m. Friday.

Memorials are suggested to the building funds at Concord Baptist Church or First Baptist Church, Linn.

MESSER

Joyce J. Messer, 59, Ulman, died Nov. 14, 2000, at Lake Regional Health Center.

She was born March 18, 1941, in Waynesville, a daughter of Lawrence J. and Lettie Ann Gan Baranowski.

A Baptist, she was a cook at the Miller County Nursing Center and Wal-Mart Super Center.

Survivors include: two sons, David Messer, Ulman, and Jerry Messer, Eldon; one daughter, Doris Messer, Ulman; three brothers, Frank Baranowski, Stoutland, Dwight Baranowski, Eldridge, and James Baranowski, Richland; seven sisters, Norma Avery, Edith Hurley and Eunis Jones, all of Stoutland, Evelyn Barnes, Montreal, Ruth Worley, Urbana, Marie Henson, Richland, and Louise Lackey, Kansas City; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hedges Funeral Home, Osage Beach. The Rev. Jerry O'Dell will officiate. The body will be cremated.

Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Friday.

PRICE

Richard A. Price, 82, California, died Nov. 15, 2000, at St. Marys Health Center.

He was born Nov. 17, 1917, in Versailles, a son of John A. and Zulona Grace Apperson Price. He was married March 8, 1938, in Miami, Okla., to Delpha Lorene Matthews, who survives at the home.

He was a self-employed contractor in Tualatin, Ore., and a 50-year member of United Brotherhood Carpenters and Joiners of America, retiring in 1991. He was a member of California United Methodist Church and a life member of the Masonic Lodge, Sherwood, Ore. He was a 1935 graduate of California High School.

Other survivors include: two sons, Ronald Alvin Price, Fairbanks, Alaska, and Richard Matthew Price, Prescott, Ariz.; two daughters, Billie Gunnerson, La Conner, Wash., and Patricia Louise Ostby, Tigerd, Ore.; one foster daughter, Kathy Maxwell, Wilsonville, Ore.; two sisters, Pauline Adcock, Eldon, and Evelyn Hartman,  Jefferson City; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services. The Rev. Carol Koenig will officiate.

Visitation will be from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Sunday.

KRAXBERGER

Helen Joetta "Jo" Kraxberger, 74, Stover, died Nov. 15, 2000, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born April 16, 1926, in Humboldt, Kan., a daughter of Kenneth D. and Ethel Beeman Sharp. She was married Feb. 24, 1953, in Humboldt, to Cletus "Clet" Kraxberger, who survives at the home.

A 1944 graduate of Humboldt High School, she worked for Beech Aircraft in Wichita, Kan., for several years before transferring to Universal CIT in Dodge City, Kan. She was a volunteer at Trinity Hospital in Dodge City, and was active in the Meals on Wheels program.

She and her husband moved to Stover in 1966. She was a member of Stover United Methodist Church, where she attended Sunday school and volunteered in the church nursery.

Other survivors include: two sons, Steve Kraxberger, St. George, Kan., and Ken Kraxberger, Chanute, Kan.; one brother, Robert Sharp, Humboldt; and one granddaughter.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Stover United Methodist Church. The Rev. Diane Cutler will officiate. Private burial will be at a later date.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home, Stover.

Memorials are suggested to Stover United Methodist Church.

HICKS

Kenneth R. "Kenny" Hicks, 88,  Jefferson City, died Nov. 15, 2000, at Capital Region Medical Center.

He was born July 24, 1912, in Orrick, a son of John A. and Martha Hanne Hicks. He was married Aug. 25, 1934, in Excelsior Springs, to Bertha M. Hagman, who survives at the home.

He was a graduate of Orrick High School and attended Central Missouri State University. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was employed by the Missouri Department of Conservation as the chief of field services.

He was a member of the Community Christian Church; National Benevolent Board, St. Louis; Illinois Christian Home Board, Jacksonville, Ill.; Lenoir Memorial Home Board, Columbia; C.M.A.A.A. Board of Directors; Cole County Extension Service; Conservation Federation; Canton Masonic Lodge 287; the Cole County Senior Center and Nutrition Site Board;  Jefferson City Police Volunteer Committee; and Lincoln University "Learning in Retirement" Organizational Committee.

He was an honorary member of the Missouri Alumni Association and a past state president of the Christian Men's Fellowship.

Other survivors include: two daughters: Janet Lewis, Lancaster, and Judy Carlson, Loudon, Tenn.; one son, Jon Hicks, St. Louis; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

One son, Jeffrey L. Hicks, died Nov. 20, 1968.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Community Christian Church. The Rev. David Avery and the Rev. Leslie Dalstra will officiate. Private graveside services will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will follow the services at the fellowship hall of the Community Christian Church.

Memorials are suggested to Community Christian Church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
