TURNER
James H. Turner, 55, Jefferson City, died April 10, 1999, at the University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics.
He was born Jan. 16, 1944, in Melrose Park, Ill., a son of Clyde R. and Isabella Doyle Turner. His mother, Isabella Amsbaugh, survives in Jefferson City. He was married July 27, 1974, in Pinckneyville, Ill., to Bernadette Suchomski, who survives at the home.
He graduated from high school in West Frankfort, Ill., and received a bachelor's of science degree in health education from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Ill.
He was a driver education teacher at McCluer and McCluer North high schools, St. Louis. He owned and operated a kitchen cabinet and appliance business in Colorado Springs, Colo. He was a bus and truck driver with Ryder Transportation Company, Columbia.
In 1986, he moved to Jefferson City, where he was a nurse's aide at Villa Marie Nursing Center for several years. He worked for Lincoln University for two years until retiring in 1993.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society, the National Education Association and The Transplant Support Group, Columbia.
Other survivors include: one son, James H. Turner Jr., of the home; and two daughters, Kathleen M. Turner and Ruth Ann Turner, both of the home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Church, West Frankfort, Ill. Burial will be in St. Mary Magdelan Cemetery, Todds Mill, Ill.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. today at Freeman Mortuary, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to The Transplant Group, Columbia, or the University of Missouri Heart Transplant Program, Columbia.
YARGER
Virginia R. Yarger, 89, Eldon, died April 11, 1999, at St. Marys Health Center.
She was born May 3, 1909, in Old Linn Creek, a daughter of Hugh M. and Ida Thompson Atwell. She was married Oct. 3, 1931, in Iberia, to Paul S. Yarger, who died Dec. 12, 1984.
She was a 1927 graduate of Eldon High School and attended Central Missouri State Teachers College, Warrensburg. A lifelong Miller County resident, she taught in rural schools. She co-owned and co-operated the MFA Insurance Agency in Eldon for almost 30 years.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge and Eldon First Christian Church. She was a Republican committeewoman in Miller County.
Survivors include: one son, David A. Yarger, Versailles; two brothers, Glenn Atwell, Flint, Texas , and Charles Atwell, Hannibal; three grandchildren; two step grandsons; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mossman & Hess Funeral Home, Eldon. Don Renken will officiate. Burial will be in the Eldon Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.
Memorials are suggested to The Lee House Memorial Fund, Eldon.
ALFERMANN
Services were March 31 for Elmer R. Alfermann, 69, Washington , who died March 30, 1999, at his home.
He was born Feb. 26, 1930, in Washington , a son of Joseph B. and Mary Terschluse Alfermann. He was married Nov. 24, 1951, to Anna F. Pagan, who survives at the home.
He attended St. Francis Borgia School. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, the Elks Lodge and the VFW. He was employed at McQuay Norris and S.K.F. Foundry.
Other survivors include: two sons, Ronald Alfermann and Joseph Alfermann, both of Washington ; three daughters, Linda Massmann, Cynthia Roesner and Sandra Alfermann, all of Washington ; one sister, Irene Deeken, Jefferson City; and 10 grandchildren.
Services were at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Washington . The Rev. Robert Heimos officiated. Burial was in St. Francis Borgia Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Nieburg-Vitt Funeral Home, Washington .
BURGER
Gertrude M. Burger, 91, California, died April 13, 1999, at Moniteau Care Center, California.
She was born Jan. 30, 1908, in Jamestown, a daughter of John R. and Anna Elizabeth Stauffer Derendinger. She was married June 1, 1937, in Blackburn, to Herman E. Burger, who died May 8, 1965.
She attended Fairview School and was a homemaker. She worked at Burgers' Smokehouse until her retirement in 1979.
She was a member of Moniteau Advent United Church of Christ, near Jamestown, and the Women's Guild. She was a contact person for the OATS bus for 27 years and a member of the California Area Senior Citizens-Fun and Games.
Survivors include: one brother, Harvey Derendinger, Jamestown; and one sister, Lena Sabbert, California.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Moniteau Advent United Church of Christ. The Rev. Chester Marshall will officiate. Burial will be in California City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, California.

HALE
John George Hale, 93, Jefferson City, died April 13, 1999, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility.
He was born July 28, 1905, in High Point, a son of John E. and Agnes O. Kelsey Hale. He was married Dec. 24, 1924, in Jefferson City, to Mabel H. Hill, who died Jan. 3, 1979. He was married Oct. 20, 1979, in Jefferson City, to Mildred B. Shikles, who died Sept. 14, 1996.
He attended school in Moniteau County and was employed at International Shoe Factory until his retirement. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Roger Williams Sunday School Class.
Survivors include: one stepson, Jack Shikles, Boston; one stepdaughter, Norma Jean Proctor, Russellville; nine step grandchildren, 25 step great-grandchildren and four step great-great-grandchildren.
One stepson, James B. Shikles, died in 1992.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Buescher Memorial Home. The Rev. Thomas W. Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Thursday.

HILTY
Carl B. Hilty, 90, Versailles, died April 12, 1999, at Good Shepherd Care Center, Versailles.
He was born March 30, 1909, in Donnellson, Iowa, a son of Peter P. and Barbara Mary Koller Hilty. He was married Dec. 24, 1934, in Versailles, to Gladys Viola Driver, who died May 27, 1984.
He was a retired farmer and member of Bethel Mennonite Church, near Versailles.
Survivors include: one son, Chester D. Hilty, Dixon, Ill.; three daughters, Twila Garber, Kathryn Nikkel and Doris Hilty, all of Versailles; three brothers, Dr. Hiram Hilty, Greensboro, N.C., Dr. Peter Hilty, Cape Girardeau, and Calvin Hilty, Strathmore, Calif.; one sister, Dorothy Mae Baumgartner, Versailles; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Bethel Mennonite Church. The Rev. Tom Voth will officiate. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles.
Memorials are suggested to Bethel Mennonite Church.
LEONARD
Edith Leonard, 84, Clarksburg, died April 12, 1999, at Tipton Manor Nursing Home, Tipton.
She was born April 1, 1915, in Latham, a daughter of Joseph L. and Maud Grace Medlin Leonard.
A graduate of Latham High School, she worked as a presser at Tipton Pants Factory until her retirement in 1965. She was a member of Clarksburg Baptist Church and the Ready Willing Club, both in Clarksburg.
She is survived by one brother, Harold Leonard, Tipton.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, California. The Rev. Leroy Moon and the Rev. Ivan Dameron will officiate. Burial will be in Latham Cemetery, near Latham.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday.

SAUDER
Harold Sauder, infant son of Lewis and Irene Shirk Sauder, Latham, died shortly after birth April 13, 1999, at University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics.
Other survivors include: two brothers, Edwin Sauder and Nelson Sauder, both of the home; three sisters, Lucille Sauder, Lucinda Sauder and Ada May Sauder, all of the home; paternal grandparents, Enos and Lydia Sauder, Latham; maternal grandparents, John and Lydia Shirk, Versailles; great-grandfather, Eli Sauder, Churchtown, Pa.; and great-grandmother, Lena Shirk, Denver, Pa.
Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Clearview Mennonite Cemetery, near Versailles. Daniel Newswenger and Raymond Stauffer will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles.
STROPE
Frances G. Wilbers Strope, 84, Jefferson City, died April 12, 1999, at Capital Region Medical Center.
She was born July 29, 1914, in St. Elizabeth, a daughter of John and Josephine Bode Wilbers. She was married to Otto Strope, who preceded her in death.
A former St. Elizabeth resident, she worked as a cosmetologist in the St. Louis area before retiring. She moved to Jefferson City 15 years ago. She had been a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, St. Elizabeth, and was a member of St. Ann's Sodality.
Survivors include: one niece, Sister Elizabeth Ann Wilbers, Los Angeles, Calif.; and one nephew, Bernard Wilbers, Jefferson City.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, St. Elizabeth. The Rev. John Degnan will officiate. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Rekus Funeral Home, St. Elizabeth, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m.
