CAMERON

Mable Elizabeth Ramsdell Cameron, 78, Hartsburg, died Nov. 30, 2000, at her home.

She was born Dec. 22, 1921, in Wilton, a daughter of George A. and Bessie Virginia Sapp McDow. She was married April 29, 1938, in California, to James Ramsdell, who died Nov. 20, 1970. She was married Feb. 20, 1972, in Hartsburg, to Albert Edwin Cameron, who survives at the home.

She worked for the state of Missouri for 35 years. She spent 32 years with the Department of Agriculture Animal Health Division.

She was a member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Hartsburg, the Ashland Senior Center and the Friendship Club in Hartsburg. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary 152 in Ashland for 54 years, and a charter member of AARP Chapter 4401. She was a member of the American Association of State Retired Persons since 1986.

Other survivors include: one son, James Wilson Ramsdell, Hartsburg; one daughter, Virginia Ellen Bennett, Hartsburg; two stepdaughters, Peggy Lea Roach and Phyllis Lynn Hook, both of St. Louis; one brother, Everet Weldon McDow, Hartsburg; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; six step grandchildren; and seven step great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Robinson Funeral Home, Ashland. The Rev. Mike Quinn will officiate. Burial will be at New Salem Cemetery, Ashland.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday.

Memorials are suggested to Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Mount Pleasant Rd., Hartsburg, Mo. 65039, and Missouri River Hospice, 3210 Bluff Drive, Columbia, Mo. 65201.

FRIEND

Berniece Marie Friend, 82, Independence, died Nov. 30, 2000, at Saint Joseph Health Center.

She was born Jan. 29, 1918, in Big Sandy, Mont. She was married to Robert B. Friend, who died in 1988.

Survivors include: two sons, Dr. Jerald E. Elrod, Lee's Summit, and David A. Hatela, Hendersonvile, Tenn.; one daughter, Nancy L. Hoffman,  Jefferson City; two sisters, Patricia Hadsall, Overland Park, Kan., and Norma Cooper, Alhambra, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Speaks Suburban Chapel. The body will be cremated. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery near LaCygne, Kan.

Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Saturday.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, or Our Savior's Lutheran Church,  Jefferson City.

HATCHER

Luther W. Hatcher, 97,  Jefferson City, died Nov. 29, 2000, at Capital Region Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 7, 1903, in Topeka, Kan., a son of William and Bessie McClain Hatcher. He was married in Pine Bluff, Ark., to Birdie Richardson, who preceded him in death. He was married in Pine Bluff to Evelyn Young, who survives at the home.

A former resident of Kansas City, he graduated from Lincoln High School, Kansas City. He received a bachelor's degree in building construction from Hampton University, Hampton, Va., and a master's degree in education from Wayne State University, Detroit.

He worked at the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Southern University-Baton Rouge, La., and Lincoln University. He was employed at Lincoln University for 34 years beginning in 1939. While at Lincoln, he taught classes in building construction and was superintendent of buildings and grounds during the construction of Richardson Auditorium, Scruggs University Center and other campus facilities. He retired in 1973.

He was a member of Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church, where he was a choir member and served as a trustee. He was a 60-year member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and served on the Housing Authority Board of Commissioners. He was a life member of the National Optimist Club, and a 15-year member of the local Sunrise Optimist Club, where he served as president and secretary.

He also is survived by one daughter, Lorraine Hatcher Caldwell, Dayton, Ohio.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church. The Rev. Eva C. Duncan will officiate. Burial will be in Longview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Buescher Memorial Home, with an Omega Psi Phi Fraternity service at 6 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church.

IRWIN

Ella Jones Irwin , 92,  Jefferson City, died Nov. 30, 2000, at  Jefferson City Manor Nursing Center.

She was born June 25, 1908, in Russellville, a daughter of James H. and Leona Howard Jones. She was married Oct. 12, 1931, in  Jefferson City, to Hadley K. Irwin, who died Jan. 23, 1990.

A lifelong resident of the  Jefferson City area, she was a 1928 graduate of  Jefferson City High School. She was employed as a secretary with the Missouri Supreme Court for Judge S.P. Dalton and Judge Robert Donnelly until her retirement in 1974. She was a member of First Christian Church, the Ester Circle and the PEO, Chapter H.M.

Survivors include: two daughters, Ann Whaley,  Jefferson City, and Linda Murer, Branson; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Christian Church. The Rev. Lawrence Veatch and the Rev. R.W. Beard will officiate. Private graveside services will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Sunday in the parlor of First Christian Church.

Memorials are suggested to Capital Region Medical Center New Ambulance Fund or First Christian Church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

MOERS

Services were Tuesday for Emma Moers, 84, Woodland, Wash., formerly of Taos, who died Nov. 22, 2000, in Vancouver, Wash.

She was born April 23, 1916, in Taos, a daughter of Bernard and Elizabeth Setter Schnieders. She was married in 1937 in Kansas City to Bernard Moers, who died Jan. 31, 1992.

She attended St. Francis Xavier School at Taos. A homemaker, she worked for Safeway Grocery Company in Kansas City. She was a member of St. Phillips Catholic Church, Woodland.

Survivors include: one son, Bernie Moers, Richfield, Wash.; one grandchild; four step grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and 16 step great-grandchildren.

Services were at St. Phillips Catholic Church. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Vancouver, Wash.

Arrangements were under the direction of Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, Vancouver.

MARSHALL

Bert E. Marshall, 84, Versailles, died Nov. 30, 2000, at Good Shepherd Care Center, Versailles.

Arrangements are at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles.

CARNEY

George L. Carney Sr., 85, Camdenton, died Dec. 1, 2000, at Windsor Estates Convalescent Center.

He was born June 13, 1915, in Warrensburg, a son of Sam and Mary Middleton Carney. He was married June 1, 1940, to Georgia M. Holdner, who died July 15, 1999. He later married Thelma Waterfield treat, who survives at the home.

He owned and operated Relax-A-Way Bay Resort near Sunrise Beach. An Army veteran, he was a member and deacon at First Baptist Church in Sunrise Beach. He served on the board of the Cam-Mo Ambulance District and volunteered at Lake Regional Hospital.

Other survivors include: one son, George L. Carney Jr., Columbia; two daughters, Cheryl K. Smith, Hampton, Va., and Terry Johnston, Plano, Texas ; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church. The Rev. Mearl Laswell will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Garber Memorial Estates Cemetery, Laurie.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Laurie.

Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church Sunrise Beach Building Fund.

SURLS

Donald Allen Surls, 66, Mexico, died Nov. 30, 2000, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.

He was born Nov. 15, 1934, a son of D. Allen and Mildred E. Smith Surls. He was married Sept. 29, 1961, in Mexico to Maude Lee Coldwell, who survives at the home.

He worked for Homer Schremp Electric and Howerton Electric.

He was a member of Union Baptist Church, Golden K Kiwanis and IBEW Local 257.

Other survivors include: his mother, Mexico; a daughter, Abby, Auxvasse; a son Randy,  Jefferson City; and many grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Pickering Funeral Home. The Rev. James Palmer and the Rev. Jim Walker will officiate. Burial will be at East Lawn Memorial Park.

Memorials are suggested to the Union Baptist Church Building Fund.

SWINDLE

Ralph Swindle, 53, Lake Ozark, died Dec. 1, 2000, at Lake Ozark.

He was born June 25, 1947, in Escondido, Calif., a son to Ivan and Ruth (Fairres) Swindle. He was married to Linda Wyrick, who survives at the home.

He was a carpenter and millright.

Other survivors include: his mother, Lake Ozark; two daughters, Tammy Robinett, Kaiser, and Leslie Ranson, Fontana, Calif.; two brothers, Dale Swindle, Lakeville, Minn., and Charles Swindle, Kingman, Kan.; and four grandchildren.

Private services will be held later. The body has been cremated.
