EVEN
Paul A. Even, 83, Jefferson City, died Dec. 6, 2000, at his home.
He was born May 27, 1917, in Hermann, a son of Paul F. and Myrtle H. Meyer Even. He was married April 22, 1950, in El Paso, Texas , to Bea Gentry, who survives.
He was a 1935 graduate of Fulton High School and attended Westminster College. An Army veteran of World War II, he worked for the Missouri Highway and Transportation Department, Division of Planning, from 1952 until his retirement in 1981. He was a part-time sales clerk at J.C. Penney's from 1955 to 1982.
He was a member of Central United Church of Christ and the Men's Brotherhood. He also served as chairman of the Consistory and Board of Elders.
He was a volunteer at Capital Region Medical Center, Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital, Columbia, and Boys Scouts of America, Troop 5.
He volunteered at the American Red Cross, where he served as chairman of the blood program.
He was a member of VFW Roy Sone Post 1003 and Capital Region Medical Center Auxiliary.
Other survivors include: one son, Nicholas Even, Dallas, Texas ; two daughters, Dr. Susan Even, Columbia, and Sara Jane Wilson, Houston, Texas ; two sisters, Elaine Even Roddy, Hollywood, Fla., and Bette Even Sayles, Tulsa, Okla.; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Central United Church of Christ. The Rev. Stephen H. Buchholz will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to Central United Church of Christ or Capital Region Medical Center.
KROG
William Otto "Bill" Krog Jr., 84, Slater, died Dec. 5, 2000, at Fitzgibbon Memorial Hospital, Marshall.
He was born July 15, 1916, in Versailles, a son of William O. and Nettie McCann Krog. He was married June 25, 1943, in Randleman, N.C., to Annie Lee Hancock, who survives at the home.
He graduated from Versailles High School in 1934 and served in the National Guard.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He retired from DeKalb Ag Research Inc., Marshall, in 1979 after working 14 years.
He was a member of the VFW Post 4367, Slater, and the American Legion Post 104, Versailles.
He was a Baptist.
Other survivors include: two sons, William "Mac" Krog, Clarence, and Samuel Charles Krog, Slater; one daughter, Laura Lea Mason, Shelbyville; one sister, Mary Anne Osborn, Jefferson City; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles. The Rev. Robert Sissney will officiate. Inurnment with military honors will be in Versailles City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Slater.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or First Baptist Church, Slater.
NICHOLS
Joe W. Nichols Jr., 85, Jefferson City, died Dec. 6, 2000, at Capital Region Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 16, 1915, in Blackwater, a son of Joe W. Sr. and Ethel Bash Nichols. He was married Dec. 28, 1937, in Springfield, to Ruth E. Patton, who survives at the home.
He graduated from high school in Blackwater. He received a bachelor's degree in education in 1935 and a master's degree in education in 1940, both from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He was a teacher and principal in Brunswick from 1936 to 1942, and high school principal in Jackson from 1942 to 1945.
He then moved to Jefferson City. He was principal of Jefferson City Junior High School until 1947, when he became dean of Jefferson City Junior College. In 1955, he was appointed superintendent of the Jefferson City Public School District, a position he held until his retirement in 1978. He was named superintendent of schools emeritus shortly before his retirement.
He was a 50-year member and elder at First Presbyterian Church, and a member and past president of the Jefferson City Rotary Club. He was a member of the Jefferson City Chamber of Commerce, the American Association of School Administrators and Phi Delta Kappa Honorary Fraternity.
He was president of the Missouri Junior College Association in 1952; a member of the Missouri Association of School Administrators, serving as president in 1966; and a member of the Missouri State Teachers Association, serving as president from 1969 to 1970.
He was named a "Pioneer in Education" by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. He was listed in Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in Missouri Education and Men of Achievement. In 1976, the Jefferson City Public School District named Nichols Career Center in his honor.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Nicki Joe Nichols Gamble, Cambridge, Mass.; one son, Tyson Wayne Nichols, Columbia; one brother, Paul B. Nichols, Kansas City; four step grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. R.W. Beard will officiate. Private graveside services will be held in Riverview Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2-3 p.m. Friday in Knox Hall at the church.
Memorials are suggested to First Presbyterian Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
BRANDT
Services were today for Margaret Darlene "Maggie" Brandt, infant daughter of Steve and Julie Robertson Brandt, Loose Creek, who was stillborn Dec. 4, 2000, at St. Marys Health Center.
Her parents survive at the home.
Other survivors include: one brother, Steven Brandt, of the home; one sister, Morgan Brandt, of the home; maternal grandparents, Glenn and Kathy Robertson, Loose Creek; paternal grandparents, Joe and Darlene Brandt, Loose Creek; maternal great-grandparents, John and Bea Robertson, Loose Creek, and Fritz and Margie Luebbert, Meta; and paternal great-grandmothers, Irene Kliethermes, Loose Creek, and Josepha Bock, Rich Fountain.
Private graveside services were held in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Loose Creek. The Rev. Gregory Meystrik officiated.
Arrangements were under the direction of Morton Funeral Home, Linn.
EIDSON
Mary E. Eidson, 79, Richmond, Ky., formerly of Camden County, died Dec. 5, 2000, at Pattie A. Clay Hospital, Richmond.
She was born Feb. 18, 1921, in Ozark, a daughter of David and Ollie Garrett Ross. She was married in March 1944 to Ralph Eidson, who died Aug. 5, 1997.
A former resident of Springfield and Fayetteville, Ark., she was bank manager of McElroy Bank, Fayetteville. She also lived in Bolivar. She was a member of White Oak Pond Christian Church.
Survivors include: one son, Mike Eidson, Richmond; three sisters, Martha Brayfield, Osage Beach, Joann Whitney, Republic, and Bette Love, Kansas City; and three grandchildren.
One daughter, Patricia Eidson, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Camdenton. Burial will be in Parrack Grove Cemetery, Macks Creek.
Visitation will be from noon-2 p.m. Saturday.
GEORGE
Gertrude M. George, 99, Boonville, formerly of California, died Dec. 6, 2000, at Riverdell Care Center, Boonville.
She was born Nov. 26, 1901, in Jamestown, a daughter of William F. and Mary Ann Seitz Less. She was married Oct. 14, 1925, in Tuscumbia, to Melvin William George, who died July 5, 1973.
She worked at Tipton Pants Factory and was a member of California United Church of Christ.
Survivors include two grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
One son, William Melvin George, died Nov. 1, 2000.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Evangelical Cemetery, California. The Rev. Gary Schulte will officiate.
Visitation will be from noon-1:30 p.m. Friday at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, California.
Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.
MUEHLENKAMP
Stanley S. Muehlenkamp, 81, St. Louis, formerly of St. Thomas, died Dec. 5, 2000, at St. Anthony's Medical Center, St. Louis.
He was born June 10, 1919, in St. Thomas, a son of Martin and Hedwig Schell Muehlenkamp. He was married June 26, 1946, to Irma Brunnert, who survives at the home.
A graduate of Meta High School, he worked for Sunshine Biscuit Co. and the Missouri Botanical Garden. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was a member of Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, St. Louis.
Other survivors include: one son, Allan Muehlenkamp, Richmond, Va.; one daughter, Mary Albright, Canton, Mich.; one sister, Margaret Godar, St. Louis; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Two grandchildren preceded him in death.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church. Burial, with military honors, will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. Sunday at Kutis Funeral Home, St. Louis.
