SHORT
Erma L. Short, 89, Jefferson City, died Dec. 8, 2000, at her home.
She was born July 31, 1911, in Linn, a daughter of Everet B. and Inez E. Franklin Dessieux.
She was married Sept. 27, 1931, at Sedalia, to Claude E. Short, a former Jefferson City chief of police, who died May 8, 1975.
She attended school in Osage County.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the First Christian Church.
Survivors include: four daughters, Joan Claudelle Love and Linda L. Short, both of Jefferson City, Terry S. Beatty, Hallsville, and Donna K. Coulter, Holts Summit; two sisters, Evelyn Ray, Jefferson City, and Nell Inzana, Hughson, Calif.; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Freeman Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Lawrence Veatch officiating. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association or to the First Christian Church.
WIEBERG
Kenneth Alfred Wieberg, 51, died Dec. 9, 2000, at his home.
He was born Dec. 29, 1948, in Maries County, a son of Roman Adam Wieberg and Mary Wilhelmina Berhorst Wieberg. He was married May 4, 1974, in St. Thomas to Joyce Elizabeth Luebbering, who survives at the home.
He was the current mayor of Argyle and a member of the town board and a yard manager for Midwest Block and Brick Co., Jefferson City.
He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam era.
He was a member of the St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Argyle; the Knights of Columbus Council No. 2047; the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 8045; the Argyle Volunteer Fire Department.
He was treasurer of the St. Aloysius Cemetery Association.
Other survivors include: one son, Brian Wieberg, Argyle; two daughters, Amy Haller, Freeburg, and Kerry Kroll, Wardsville; three brothers, William Wieberg and Roman Wieberg Jr., both of St. Thomas, and Roger Wieberg, Jefferson City; four sisters, Eldora Werner, Meta, Marilyn Lock, Jefferson City, Arlene Thomas, St. Louis, and Debbie Williams, Holts Summit; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Argyle, with the Rev. Michael F. Murphy officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home in Jefferson City, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
An additional visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
WYRICK
Hester Elizabeth Wyrick, 90, Jefferson City, died Dec. 9, 2000.
She was born Nov. 27, 1910, at Etterville, a daughter of Wesley and Emma Demott Weitz.
She was married March 23, 1928, at Iberia, to Samuel F. Wyrick, who died March 31, 1981.
She attended Tuscumbia High School after attending school at Etterville.
She was member of the First Christian Church since 1928, including its Lydia Circle, the Diaconate and the Christian Women Fellowship. She served that group as president in 1986-87.
She was primarily a homemaker.
She also worked at Oberman Manufacturing for 16 years, and later managed two downtown fabric stores -- Tina's Fabrics and Fabricland -- until her retirement.
Survivors include: Two sons, Herbert Wyrick and Bill Wyrick, both of Jefferson City; one daughter, Ellen Repper, Naples, Fla.; eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Buescher Memorial Home, with the Rev. Mindy Kiepe officiating. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today.
Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church.
ZALARSKI
Walter J. Zalarski, 87, Osage Beach, died Dec. 8, 2000, at Lake Regional Hospital, Osage Beach.
He was born March 7, 1913, in Poland, a son of John and Marie Horacek Zalarski.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and received a Purple Heart.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He worked as a machinist.
Survivors include: one daughter, Sharon Slimp, Lindenhurst, Ill., and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Lake Chapel of Hedges Funeral Home, Osage Beach, with Pastor Ron Lehenbauer officiating. Burial will be in the Lake Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Osage Beach.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday.
Military honors will be conducted by the Zack Wheat American Legion Post No. 624, Sunrise Beach.
COLEMAN
Kenneth M. Coleman Jr., 44, Wardsville, died Dec. 10, 2000, at Capital Region Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 20, 1955, in Jefferson City, a son of Kenneth M. and Margaret Marybeth Smith Coleman. He was married May 22, 1982, in Jefferson City, to Sandy J. Becker, who survives at the home.
A 1974 graduate of Jefferson City High School, he earned a degree in business administration from Lincoln University in 1984. He had worked for Colonial Life & Accident Life Insurance Company since 1987 and was a Marine Corps veteran.
He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Wardsville Lions Club, Helias Council 1054 Knights of Columbus and the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Ryan N. Coleman, of the home; one son, Jacob K. Coleman, of the home; and three sisters, Donna Bowman and Karen Coleman, both of Jefferson City, and Linda Hickman, Denver.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. The Rev. Louis E. Dorn will officiate. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home, Jefferson City, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the Ryan and Jacob Coleman Educational Fund, in care of Mid-America Bank, Wardsville, or the American Cancer Society.
MARTIN
Logan Michael Martin, 3, Henley, died Dec. 9, 2000, at his home from injuries sustained in an accident.
He was born Feb. 10, 1997, in Mexico, a son of Charles and Kimberly Moss Martin. His parents survive at the home.
Other survivors include: one sister, Melissa Martin, St. Louis; one brother, Cody Martin, of the home; maternal grandparents, Arnold "Bop" and Wanda "Maw Maw" Sharp, Perry; and paternal grandparents, Edward and Glenda Martin, Iberia.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Rekus Funeral Home, Eldon. Burial will be in Hickory Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today.
Memorials are suggested to the Donna Shreve Memorial Fund or the Cody Martin Education Fund.
MORTS
Robert Lee Morts, 70, Columbia, died Dec. 10, 2000, at his home.
He was born Aug. 27, 1930, in Fulton, a son of Harry E. and Opal Marie McClerry Morts. His stepmother, Ruby Robertson, survives in Fulton. He was married April 2, 1953, in Fulton, to Patricia Ann Hutchinson, who survives at the home.
A 1948 graduate of Fulton High School, he was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He owned and operated Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Chillicothe, for several years. He also owned and operated Resthaven Memorial Gardens and Mortuary, Trenton, until his retirement in the early 1980s.
In 1995 he moved to Columbia. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Chillicothe until he moved his membership to Fulton. He was a member of the Elks Lodge.
Other survivors include: one son, R. Scott Morts, Wichita, Kan.; one daughter, Lea Ann McKnight, Columbia; two brothers, Keith Morts, Tampa, Fla., and Kenneth Morts, St. Louis; three sisters, Doris A. Sheley, Holts Summit, Marian Whitcomb, St. Louis, and Bette Rovik, Jefferson City; and four granddaughters.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Callaway Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Fulton. The Rev. George Braden will officiate.
Visitation will be from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Maupin Funeral Home, Fulton.
