STEPHENSON
Joyce Mae Stephenson, 57, Roach, died April 16, 1999, at Capital Region Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 1, 1941, in Linn, a daughter of Amos H. and Clara Belle Snyder Phillips.
She worked at the Chances 'R' Restaurant and Lounge in Laurie.
Survivors include: three sons, Dean Herring, Camdenton, Gerald Herring, Gravois Mills, and John Patterson, Boonville; two daughters, Jackie Yoder and Tamie Herring, both of Versailles; two brothers, Marvin H. Phillips and Amos R. Phillips, both of Camdenton; five sisters, Clara A. Iliff, Camdenton, Marilyn H. Hammond, Pekin, Ill., Jackqueline R. Kendall, Eldridge, N. Marcia Jimenez, Chicago, and MaDonna R. Leinbach, Decaturville, Ill.; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cornerstone Church of Versailles (formerly Mount Zion Mennonite Church). Dale Bentch will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles.
Memorials are suggested to Cornerstone Church of Versailles.
STOGSDILL
Pansy Aileen Stogsdill, 66, Jefferson City, died April 16, 1999, at St. Marys Health Center.
She was born Oct. 20, 1932, a daughter of Hadley and Ethelene Robertson Watson. Her mother, Ethelene Watson Hance, survives in Newburg.
She graduated from Newburg High School and from the Capital Business College. She lived in Jefferson City since 1961 and was a clerk-stenographer for the state's Division of Worker Compensation.
She was a member of First Baptist Church.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Joyce Ann Martinez and Sandra Lynn Marthers, both of Jefferson City; two brothers, Kenneth Hance, Vida, and Dennis Hance, St. Louis; two sisters, Dorothy Affolter, Newburg, and Carolyn Eickhorst, Holts Summit; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Assembly of God Church, Jefferson City. The Rev. Lowell Perkins will officiate. Burial will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Monday.
Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Morton Funeral Home, Linn.
WALTERS
Velma Walters, 84, Crocker, died April 16, 1999, at Life Care Center, Waynesville.
She was born Sept. 25, 1914, in Pulaski County, a daughter of Charles and Lucinda Helms Campbell. She was married March 16, 1935, in Waynesville, to Carl Emerson Walters, who died May 14, 1983.
She was a homemaker and a member of Crocker Christian Church.
Survivors include: two daughters, Juanita Goff and Betty Brown, both of Crocker; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Crocker. Brother Rick Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Crocker Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today and from 10-11 a.m. Monday.
Memorials are suggested to the Crocker Christian Church Building Fund.
DEVORE
Virginia Angeline Devore, 93, Ulman, died April 17, 1999, at her home.
She was born Sept. 6, 1905, in Exline, Iowa, a daughter of Arthur and Alice Cochran McClaskey. She was married Sept. 30, 1929, to Clarence Oliver Plemmons, who died in 1966. She was married in 1967 to Otis Carico, who died in 1976. She was married in 1977 to Ralph Devore, who died in 1986.
A resident of the Ulman area since 1917, she was a homemaker. She was a member of Brumley Baptist Church, Brumley.
Survivors include: two sons, Kent Reed, Pueblo, Colo., and George Plemmons, Ulman; three daughters, Bettie Heard-Hagberg, Pueblo, Carolyn Kelsay, Iberia, and Mary Hoskins, Barnett; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Three grandchildren and one great-grandchild preceded her in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Brumley Baptist Church. The Rev. Danny McNeal will officiate. Burial will be in Hawkins Cemetery, near Brumley.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia.
Memorials are suggested to Brumley Baptist Church.
HELMIG
Jimmy Ray Helmig, 50, Columbia, died April 16, 1999, at his home.
He was born Oct. 7, 1948, in Jefferson City, a son of Chester and Norma Lee Malan Helmig. His mother survives in Linn. He was married Aug. 13, 1994, in Columbia, to Betty Kay Hymes, who survives at the home.
He was employed as an adjuster with Shelter Insurance for 25 years. He served with the U.S. Navy.
Other survivors include, one son, Jesse Howard Helmig, Wisconsin; one daughter, Angela Marie Helmig, Warrensburg; two brothers, Johnny W. Helmig, Jefferson City, and Jerry Dale Helmig, Kansas City.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Funeral Home, Columbia. The Revs. Don Almond and Don Snyder will officiate. Burial will be at Fairview Church of Christ Cemetery, Linn.
Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Sunday.
Memorials are suggested to the Boy Scouts of America, Columbia.
SCHMIDT
Brian G. Schmidt, 29, Osage Bend, died April 17, 1999, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born Dec. 21, 1969, in Jefferson City, a son of Dr. J.H. and Elaine M. Haudrich Schmidt. His parents survive in Wardsville. He was married Oct. 18, 1997, to Andrea Edwards, who survives at the home.
A 1988 graduate of Jefferson City High School, he attended Linn State Technical College, Linn. He owned Schmidt Excavating and Bobcat Service.
He was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church, Osage Bend.
Other survivors include: one sister, Nikki Kolb, Jefferson City; and maternal grandmother, Clara Haudrich, Jefferson City.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Margaret Catholic Church. The Rev. Michael Coleman will officiate. Burial will be in St. Margaret Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 5 p.m., and from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Margaret Cemetery Association, the Vitae Society or to a charity of the donor's choice.
SCHULTE
Joann Schulte, 56, Columbia, died April 18, 1999, at her home.
She was born July 27, 1942, in Boone County, a daughter of George and Alice Marie Roulette Nichols. He mother survives in Columbia. She was married June 28, 1969, in Columbia, to Harold Schulte, who survives at the home.
She was employed with Phillippe Beauty Salon for 36 years.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Cheryl Ann Mitchell, Rocheport; and one sister, Shirley Glaser, Holts Summit.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Funeral Home, Columbia. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.

STROPE
Mark Leonard Strope, 24, St. Thomas, died April 18, 1999, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born Nov. 10, 1974, in Jefferson City, a son of Leonard J. and Kathy E. Wilbers Strope. His parents survive in St. Thomas.
He was a 1993 graduate of Blair Oaks High School and attended Nichols Career Center from 1992 to 1993. He graduated in 1993 from Wyoming Tech, Laramie, Wyo., with a degree in diesel mechanics. He worked for Schaepperkoetter Sales and Service, Mount Sterling, from 1993 to 1994. From 1994 to 1998 he was employed by Crown Power and Equipment. He was currently a mechanic with Cole County Public Works.
He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, St. Thomas, and St. Thomas Knights of Columbus. He was a past volunteer firefighter with the St. Thomas Fire Department and a 10-year member of the St. Thomas 4-H Club.
Other survivors include: two sisters, Lisa Strope Wieberg, Jefferson City, and Kerry Strope, Pismo Beach, Calif.; one brother, Simon Strope, St. Thomas; maternal grandmother, Mathilda Hazelhorst Wilbers, Linn; and paternal grandmother, Agnes Luebbering Strope, St. Thomas.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. The Rev. Don Antweiler will officiate. Burial will be in St. Thomas the Apostle Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at St. Thomas Knights of Columbus Hall, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the Strope Family Care Fund.
Arrangements are under the direction of Houser-Millard Funeral Home.
TURNBULL
Lawrence Edward Turnbull, 69, Ashland, died April 15, 1999, at Boone Hospital, Columbia.
He was born March 4, 1930, in Potosi, a son of LeRoy and Lucy Edith Evans Turnbull. He was married July 3, 1954, in Angola, Ind., to Rebecca Deloris "Dee" Martin, who died June 5, 1997.
He was employed with the Harry S. Truman Veteran's Hospital, Columbia, in electronics' repair. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a member of the VFW Post 280, Columbia.
Survivors include: one son, Jeffery Turnbull, Ballwin; one daughter, Michele Doolady, Columbia; one brother, Ivan Turnbull, Newburg; one sister, Edith Whitley, Potosi; and two granddaughters.
Services will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Columbia. The Rev. Kenneth Gerike will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church, 2201 W. Rollins Road, Columbia.
