OGILBEE

Kenneth Raymond Ogilbee, 80, Tuscumbia, died Jan. 5, 2001, at St. Marys Health Center.

He was born in Kinsman, Ohio, Jan. 2, 1921, a son of Kenneth J. and Effa (Koonce) Ogilbee. He was married Oct. 21, 1944, in Tuscumbia to Eunice Jenkins, who survives at the home.

He was a United States Army veteran of Word War II. He was a lifetime member of the Maywood, Calif., Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a plant supervisor for Felbro Wire in Los Angeles, Calif.

Other survivors include: three sons, Larry Ogilbee, Austin, Texas , Ronald Ogilbee, Keller, Texas , and Gregory Ogilbee, Whittier, Calif.; two daughters, Patricia Betance, Whittier, Calif., and Linda Oliver, Crabtree, Ore.; three brothers, George Ogilbee, Kinsman, Ohio, Harold Ogilbee, Zephyrhills, Fla., and Leroy Ogilbee, North Glenn, Colo.; one sister, Joan Peterson, Cortland, Ohio; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia. The Rev. Charles Worstell will officiate. Burial will be in Jackson Cemetery near Ulman.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.

SILER

Ruth Louisa Beard Siler, 86, died Jan. 5, 2001, in Dallas, Texas .

She was born Aug. 19, 1914, in Carrington, a daughter of Lewis Sylvester and Elfia Brittana Way Beard. She was married Oct. 8, 1942, to William W. Siler, who survives at the home.

She performed with the Beard Sisters around Central Missouri. She graduated from Fulton High School and William Woods College in 1937. An accomplished violinist, she earned her bachelor of arts degree from Louisville University School of Music, Louisville, Ky., in 1939. She performed in community orchestras throughout her life and served as concert master in Mobile, Ala., and Belleville, Ill. She held the second-chair in the first-violin section of the St. Louis Philharmonic for several years.

Survivors include: three children, Ruth Jones and John Siler, both of Dallas, Texas , and Rise Siler, White City, Ore., one sister, Eunice Brown, Deming, N.M., and one brother, John Bread, Poplar Bluff.

Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Callaway Memorial Gardens. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church, Fulton. The Rev. Stephen Sowder will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Debo Funeral Home, Fulton.

FENNER

Ruth B. Fenner, 97,  Jefferson City, died Jan. 7, 2001, at  Jefferson City Manor Nursing Center.

She was born Sept. 17, 1903, in Benton City, a daughter of Melvin and Claudia Crosswhite Kennett. She was married April 19, 1927, in Chicago, to Ralph Fenner, who died April 19, 1927.

She attended school in rural Montgomery County and graduated from Hardin Junior College, Mexico.

Survivors include one daughter, Lorraine Adkins,  Jefferson City, two grandsons and four great-grandchildren.

One grandson preceded her in death.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Freeman Mortuary. Rick Erhardt will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-3 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials are suggested to the Jay Football Foundation.

HINDMAN

Juanita Frances Hindman, 87, Aldrich, died Jan. 7, 2001, at Parkview Health Care Facility, Bolivar.

She was born Sept. 19, 1913, in Lambert, Okla., a daughter of John E. and Ella Brim.

Survivors include one son, James E. Lowery,  Jefferson City, and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Aldrich United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.

Visitation will be 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at Pitts Chapel, Bolivar.

Memorials are suggested to Aldrich United Methodist Church.

LEWISON

Artie Juanita Lewison, 77,  Jefferson City, died Jan. 4, 2001, in  Jefferson City.

She was born June 6, 1923, in St. Louis, a daughter of Arthur and Margaret Myers Jones. She was married July 12, 1971, to Eugene Dale Lewison, who died Dec. 28, 1998.

A graduate of Tuscumbia High School, she was employed as a nurse.

Survivors include: one brother, Jack Jones, Russellville; one sister, Billie Martin, Camarillo, Calif.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Private services will be held at a later date. The body will be cremated.

Arrangements are under the direction of Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.

WEIDINGER

Phillip Jacob Weidinger, 87, St. Elizabeth, died Jan. 7, 2001, at St. Elizabeth Care Center.

He was born June 3, 1913, in St. Elizabeth, a son of Jacob and Margaret Holzer Hake Weidinger.

He moved to Columbia in 1942 where he worked in agriculture, retail sales and for the University of Missouri-Columbia until his retirement in 1978. He returned to St. Elizabeth in 1994. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, St. Elizabeth.

He is survived by nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. The Rev. John Degnan will officiate. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9-10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Rekus Funeral Home, St. Elizabeth.

Memorials are suggested to Masses or Peru Missions.

WOLFE

Fred J. Wolfe, 92,  Jefferson City, died Jan. 7, 2001, at Capital Region Medical Center.

He was born July 23, 1908, in Osage County, a son of Joseph and Fourthey Lampkin Wolfe. He was married Aug. 6, 1930, in Osage County, to Mamie Agnes Pack, who died March 17, 1986.

A lifelong area resident, he attended school in Osage County.

He worked as a truck driver with Jones & Turner Trucking company for many years before retiring. He had lived in Linn.

Survivors include: two sons, Clifford Wolfe, Bonnots Mill, and Clyde Wolfe, Linn; two daughters, Gerry Schreimann, California, and Margaret Abbott,  Jefferson City; one brother, Edgar Wolfe,  Jefferson City; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Morton Funeral Home, Linn. The Rev. Tony Townley will officiate. Burial will be in Lane Cemetery, Osage County.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or a charity of the donor's choice.

HOLLCROFT

Ruth E. Hollcroft, 85, Stover, died Jan. 8, 2001, at Bothwell Regional Health Center, Sedalia.

Arrangements are incomplete at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home.

SUGARBAKER

Dr. Everett D. Sugarbaker, 90,  Jefferson City, died Jan. 7, 2001, at Capital Region Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 4, 1910, in Paterson, N.J., a son of Everett E. and Anna Dykstra Sugarbaker. He was married Dec. 28, 1935, to Geneva Van Dyke, who survives at the home.

He graduated from Wheaton College in 1931 and received his medical degree from Cornell Medical College in 1935. He received general and cancer surgery training at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, and was a fellow in surgery at Lahey Clinic, Boston.

He was chief surgeon at the National Cancer Institute, then in Baltimore. He was recruited to be chief surgeon at Ellis Fishel State Cancer Hospital, where he worked from 1942 to 1947.

He then founded the Sugarbaker Clinic for Treatment of Cancer and Allied Diseases in  Jefferson City, where he practiced cancer surgery from 1947 until his retirement in 1983. He designed advanced cancer surgical procedures and was an expert in surgical techniques.

He authored the "Atlas of Surgical Oncology," which surgeons use as a reference, and more than 200 original publications in cancer surgery and research. His researched cancer metastasis, the biologic event which defeats successful surgical resection of cancer. He proved the "seed soil hypothesis" in metastasis and his 1952 publication on the subject is used as a reference item.

He was a member of medical and non-medical societies including: the American College of Surgeons, Society of Surgical Oncology, Society of Head and Neck Surgeons and the American Cancer Society. He supported medical and Evangelical missions in the United States and around the world and went on volunteer surgical missions in Haiti and Bangladesh.

He provided support to educate several African American students at Lincoln University.

The Sugarbaker Family Scholarship at Wheaton College funds the tuition for two full-time students in the premedical curriculum. The Geneva and Everett D. Sugarbaker Foundation also funds those activities.

Survivors include: six daughters, Rena Pederson, Yorkville, Ill.; Geneva Sugarbaker, Ballwin; Eve Tolley, Norwalk, Conn., Deborah Digges-Leow, Worchester, Mass., Connie More, Webster Groves, and Elizabeth Akre, Ladue; four sons, Everett V. Sugarbaker, Miami, Paul H. Sugarbaker, Washington , D.C., David J. Sugarbaker, Milton, Mass., and Stephen P. Sugarbaker,  Jefferson City; and 29 grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Concord Baptist Church.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to Concord Baptist Church Television Ministries, 3724 W. Truman Blvd.,  Jefferson City, Mo. 65109.
