HENDRIX

Laurence R. Hendrix, 79, Laurie, died Jan. 14, 2001, at Good Shepherd Care Center, Versailles.

He was born Aug. 21, 1921, in Jackson County, a son of James and Mary Stumpf Hendrix. He was married May 5, 1942, to Dorothy JoDell Newhart, who died June 8, 1971.

He owned and operated Hendrix Haven Resort, Sunrise Beach. He was a rancher and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the VFW.

Survivors include: one son, Larry Hendrix, Laurie; one daughter, Cheryl Lynn Marshall, Camdenton; two adopted daughters, Debra Kordes, Osage, Okla., and Missie Ammons, Hot Springs Village, Ark.; one brother, Bill Hendrix, Kansas City; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Laurie. The Rev. Dean Rooffener will officiate. Burial will be in Versailles Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials are suggested to Good Shepherd Care Center.

KLEFFNER

Ben Kleffner, 86, Fenton, formerly of Brinktown, died Jan. 14, 2001, at his home.

He was born Dec. 26, 1914, in Brinktown, a son of Joseph and Wilhemina Schulte Kleffner. He was married Oct. 19, 1940, in St. Anthony, to Minnie Blomberg, who survives at the home.

He was a member of Holy Guardian Angles Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society, both in Brinktown. He was a lifelong farmer in Maries County until retirement in 1984. He lived in  Jefferson City for six years before moving to Fenton. He attended St. Paul's Catholic Church, Fenton.

Other survivors include: seven sons, Kenneth Kleffner and Gregory Kleffner, both of Ballwin, Bernard Kleffner, Fenton, Daniel Kleffner, Chesterfield, David Kleffner, Maplewood, Roger Kleffner, Crestwood, and Charles Kleffner, St. James; four daughters, Carolyn Kloeppel, Brinktown, Deborah Hoelscher, St. Charles, Constance Wall, Fenton, and Diane Reiss, Hematite; two sisters, Sister Agnes Marie Kleffner, S.S.M. and Agnes Buchheit, both of Arnold; 29 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Guardian Angels Catholic Church. The Rev. John Schmitz will officiate. Burial will be in Guardian Angels Cemetery, Brinktown.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation also will be from 9-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Masses.

LANGUELL

Gene Odell Languell, 80, Fulton, died Jan. 15, 2001, at Callaway Community Hospital, Fulton.

He was born March 5, 1920, in St. Johns, Kan., a son of Rural and Mamie Johnson Languell. He was married Aug. 27, 1949, in Mokane, to Evelyn Frances Roewe, who survives at the home.

He was a veteran of World War II. He worked as a service representative for Cooke Tractor Company in Fulton, Sikeston and St. Louis, from 1948 to 1959. He worked for the home office of Fiat-Allis, Springfield, Ill., from 1959 until retirement in 1983.

He was a member of E.A.A. Mid-Missouri Chapter 1225; secretary of Westminster Encampment 30 I.O.O.F; secretary of Tebbetts Lodge 596 of I.O.O.F.; and the Fiat-Allis Retirement Club.

Other survivors include: one nephew, Larry Languell, Tebbetts; and one niece Barbara Phillips, Tebbetts.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Maupin Funeral Home, Fulton. The Rev. Jake Cox will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Tebbetts.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday with an Odd Fellows service at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Central Missouri Kidney Association, P.O. Box 1915, Columbia, Mo., 65205 or the Hams Prairie Christian Church, Hams Prairie, Mo.

LOGHRY

Lelia Hale Loghry, 89, Delta, Colo., formerly of Dixon, died Jan. 12, 2001, in Delta County Memorial Hospital.

She was born Feb. 24, 1911, in Miller County, a daughter of Samuel and Beulah Null Hale. She was married March 31, 1934, in Iberia, to Arthur Atwell, who died in 1959. She was married in October 1959, in Crocker, to S.W. Samuelson, who preceded her in death. She was married in 1985 in Riverton, Wyo., to Gerald Loghry, who survives at the home.

She was an elementary school teacher and freelance religious writer. A homemaker, she wrote a weekly column for the Riverton Ranger in Riverton, Colo. She taught Sunday school for many years.

Other survivors include: one daughter, Barbara Putman, Cedaredge, Colo.; stepchildren; four brothers, Norman Hale, Wright City, Robert Hale, Cahokia, Ill., Bill Hale, St. Louis, and Ted Hale, Lebanon; two sisters, Nina Hess, Jerome, and June Reising, Salem; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Dixon. Burial will be in Dixon Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today and from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday.

PERSHALL

Elsie June Pershall, 54, Eldon, died Jan. 15, 2001, in Eldon.

She was born Jan. 11, 1947, in Success, a daughter of Franklin and Ellen Lancaster Fisher. Her mother, Ellen Lancaster, survives in Rolla. She was married Dec. 30, 1993, in Waynesville, to Thomas Pershall, who survives at the home.

A resident of Eldon since 1991, she was a homemaker. She was a Christian.

Other survivors include: one son, Robert Levasseur, Columbia; two brothers, Thomas Elmore and Gary Elmore, both of the state of Missouri; three sisters, Norma Kelly, Salem, Barbara Eckert, Rolla, and Lanorah Powell, Success; and one granddaughter.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Eldon.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials are suggested to the Church of Christ, 9th and Krauss, Eldon.

PRATER

Juanita D. Prater, 72, Iberia, died Jan. 15, 2001, at her home.

She was born June 6, 1928, in the state of Georgia, a daughter of T.L. and Dollie Smith Atwell. She was married Nov. 1, 1947, in Brumley, to Eugene Prater, who survives at the home.

A homemaker, she was a member of Iberia First Christian Church and a 1945 graduate of Iberia High School.

Other survivors include: one son, Mike Prater, Iberia; one brother, Thomas Atwell, state of Idaho; one sister, Esther Groff, Iberia; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Iberia First Christian Church. The Rev. Stan Way will officiate. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery, near Crocker.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday and 8-11 a.m. Thursday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia.

Memorials are suggested to Bethany Cemetery.

SAPP

William L. Sapp Jr., 70,  Jefferson City, died Jan. 15, 2001, at Capital Region Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 1, 1930, in Wilton, a son of William L. and Allene Batye Sapp. He was married Sept. 10, 1960, in  Jefferson City, to Lavern C. Messerli, who survives at the home.

A graduate of Ashland High School, he received a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He was an Air Force veteran. He worked for Moore Business Forms for 30 years, retiring as executive salesman in 1993.

He was a member of Central United Church of Christ, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2693, Noon Lions Club, American Legion Roscoe Enloe Post 5, VFW Post 1003 and A.A.R.P.

Other survivors include: one son, William L. Sapp III, Wantagh, N.Y.; one daughter, Cheryl Ann Fawls, Long Island, N.Y.; two sisters, Anita Sapp and Peggy Brinegar, both of Ashland; and two granddaughters.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home. The Rev. Stephen H. Buchholz will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Thursday.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.

STAUFFER

Ronnie "Mojo" Stauffer, 56, Jamestown, died Jan. 15, 2001, at University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics.

He was born July 25, 1944, in California, a son of Norman and Pauline E. Vaughan Stauffer Scantlin. He was married Oct. 12, 1996, in Jamestown, to Pam Anderson, who survives at the home.

He was a roofer with Local Union 20, Kansas City, and worked for roofing contractors. He was a member of Jamestown Baptist Church; Fraternal Order of Eagles 4027, California; and the American Legion. He attended Jamestown High School and was an Army veteran.

Other survivors include two stepsons, Bill Sedgwick and Bryan Sedgwick, both of Jamestown.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, California. The Rev. Myron Couch will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, near Jamestown.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to Mount Zion Cemetery Fund, c/o Gerald Borts, 607 North Owen, California, Mo., 65108.

STOVER

Vivian Louise Stover, 74,  Jefferson City, died Jan. 15, 2001, at Hospice of  Jefferson City and Mid-Missouri.

She was born Feb. 23, 1926, in Miller County, a daughter of Walter and Lillias Grosvenor Dillon. She was married March 3, 1950, in Brumley.

She was a 1943 graduate of Iberia High School. She earned a teaching degree from Southwest Missouri State University and Lincoln University. She received a bachelor's degree in education with minors in English and history. She also did graduate work at Lincoln University for a degree to teach special services.

She began teaching at White School in 1943 and taught in Miller County for 12 years. She taught K-12 special services at Fatima High School for 18 years. She was a member of Dix Road Church of Christ.

Survivors include: four daughters, Sue Carroll, Gayle Walton, Karen Stover and Roberta Hunt, all of  Jefferson City; one brother, Jesse Dillon,  Jefferson City, six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

One son, Jerry Stover, died in 1992.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Brent Newton will officiate. Burial will be in Lawson Cemetery, near Iberia.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials are suggested to Dix Road Church of Christ or Hospice of  Jefferson City and Mid-Missouri.
