SUTTENFIELD
The Rev. John Lee Suttenfield Jr., 77, New Bloomfield, died Jan. 17, 2001, at St. Marys Health Center.
He was born June 25, 1923, a son of the Rev. John L. Sr. and Hazel Richardson Suttenfield. He was married Feb. 6, 1943, in Lynchburg, Va., to Germaine Carroll, who survives at the home.
He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He attended Butler School of Religion, Indianapolis. He served at a church in Mooresville, Ind., for 10 years. He lived in Kankakee, Ill., and North Palm Beach, Fla. He served as a regional minister in the Disciples of Christ Organization, Springfield, and moved to Jefferson City to be a member of the church's regional staff.
He was retired, but served as interim minister of the Sedalia Missouri Christian Church for eight years and was an interim minister at the First Christian Church, Fulton, for almost two years.
Other survivors include: one son, John Lee Suttenfield III, Holts Summit; one daughter, Molly Powell, Phoenix; two brothers, James Suttenfield, Richmond, Va., and Charlie Suttenfield, Goode, Va.; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, Fulton. The Rev. Larry Veatch and the Rev. Raymond Dunlap will officiate. Burial will be in Morris Cemetery, Fulton.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Maupin Funeral Home, Fulton.

SCHIEDER
Oliver H. Schieder, 80, Chamois, died Jan. 19, 2001, at his home.
He was born Dec. 9, 1920, in Chamois, a son of Fritz and Emma Rettke Schieder. He was married May 25, 1963, in Chamois, to Martha F. Wilson Loethen.
He was a graduate of Chamois High School and a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He worked for Central Electric Plant for 30 years as a shift engineer. He was a member of the American Legion Post, Chamois, and of St. John's United Church of Christ.
Survivors include: three daughters, Carol Laboube, Hermann, Karen Huff, Wildwood, and Wanda McNamee, Arnold; one sister, Viola Pursley, Jefferson City; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. John's United Church of Christ. The Rev. Deborah Pope will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in the City Cemetery of Chamois.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Meyer-Hilke-Millard Funeral Home, Chamois.
Memorials are suggested to St. John's United Church of Christ.
HUGHES
Herschel Austin Hughes, 79, Hartsburg, died Jan. 18, 2001, at Ashland HealthCare.
He was born July 13, 1921, in Grant County, Ind., a son of Cliftie and Ioma Todd Hughes. He was married June 23, 1971, in Hartsburg, to Carmen L. Gray, who survives in Hartsburg.
He was a pastor of Peace United Church of Christ, Hartsburg, until retirement in 1992. He was ordained a minister for more than 50 years.
He was a former president of Southern Boone County School Board; Past President of Boone County Extension Center; and Past President of the Senior Center Housing, Hartsburg. He was a charter member of the Hartsburg Lions Club and he was an executive director of Human Development Corp. in Danville, Ill., and Columbia.
Other survivors include: one son, Charles Evans Hughes, Coeur d' Alene, Idaho; two stepsons, Randy Ryals, Menlo Park, Calif., and Rick Ryals, Hartsburg; one daughter, Dianne Hendricks, Danville; one stepdaughter, Cindy Gaines, Jefferson City; two brothers, Hubert Hughes, Holland, Mich., and Larry Hughes, Bartlesville, Okla.; two sisters, Martha Cole, Greeley, Colo., and Rosanna Hays, Sun City, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Peace United Church of Christ. The Rev. Fred Brandenburg and the Rev. Bryan Crousore will officiate. Burial will be in Freidens Cemetery, Hartsburg.
Visitation will be form 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Peace United Church of Christ, 121 N. First St., Hartsburg, Mo.

RAITHEL
Freda Sophia Raithel, 97, Jefferson City, died Jan. 19, 2001, at Jefferson City Manor Care Center.
She was born Nov. 19, 1903, in Cole County, a daughter of Emil and Clara Fischer Raithel.
She attended schools in the Jefferson City area. She worked on a family farm in the Brazito area all her life. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Honey Creek.
Survivors include a niece, Christine Laden, Kansas City.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors- Jefferson City Chapel. The Rev. Russell Bowder will officiate. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors- Jefferson City Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Honey Creek.
THOMAS
Bertha A. Thomas, 93, Jefferson City, died Jan. 19, 2001, at St. Marys Health Center.
She was born Nov. 5, 1907, in St. Louis, a daughter of Michael and Bertha Preut Devanny. She was married Sept. 1, 1928, in St. Louis to William Ivan Thomas, who died April 14, 1976. A son, William M. Thomas, preceded her in death.
She attended St. Augustine's Catholic School and the Speedway Business College in St. Louis. She worked for the Missouri State Medical Association from 1943 to 1973, then retired as an office manager. She attended St. Joseph's Cathedral, St. Joseph's Women's Association, and the St. Joseph's Legion of Mary.
Survivors include: a son, Robert P. Thomas, Springfield; a daughter, Mary H. Campbell, New Port Richey, Fla.; 11 grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Cathedral. Fr. Daniel Merz will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery.
Visitation will be 11 am.-12:45 p.m. Monday at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors- Jefferson City Chapel, where a Rosary will be said at 11:30 a.m.
Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
LEHMAN
Benson Lehman, 88, Mokane, died Jan. 19, 2001, at Capital Region Medical Center.
He was born June 10, 1912, in Mokane, a son of August and Verlenia Benson Lehman. He was married March 28, 1933, in Fulton, to Kathleen Litel, who survives at the home.
He was a resident of Central Missouri all his life. He was a farmer in the Missouri River bottom in Callaway County.
Other survivors include: one son, Harold Lehman, Mokane; one daughter, Mary Anne Buffington, Mokane; one sister, Ruby Robertson, Fulton; nine grandchildren; six step grandchildren; and great grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Maupin Funeral Home, Fulton. Bruce Williamson will officiate. Burial will be in Mokane Cemetery, Mokane.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at Maupin Funeral Home, Fulton.

MARTIN
Ola M. Martin, 72, Kansas City, died Jan. 19, 2001, at Independence Regional Health Center.
She was born June 15, 1928, in Anderson, a daughter of Obea W. and Elsie E. O'Daniel Jackson. She was married in 1967 to Curtis W. Martin, who died April 5, 1980.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include: three brothers, James F. Jackson and Thomas E. Jackson, both of Edwards, and William M. Jackson, Blue Springs; five sisters, Essie Krupenski, Richards, Verna Mae Brock, Granby, Bonnie Bernard, Kearney, N.J., Mary Lou Motley, Hume, and Launa G. Parker, Kansas City.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. The Rev. John D. Park will officiate. Burial will be at Gott Cemetery near Ulman.
Visitation will be 12-1 p.m. Monday at Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia.

MAASEN
Wilma C. Maasen, 82, Linn, died Jan. 19, 2001, at Capital Region Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 2, 1918, in Frankenstein, a daughter of William P. and Mary Bogler Jaegers. She was married Aug. 1939, in Frankenstein to Fred J. Maasen, who died March 9, 1972.
She attended St. Marys School in Frankenstein.
A homemaker, she was previously employed by Commercial Life Insurance and Lawrence Prenger Auctioneering. She was involved with St. George Church, Linn; St. Ann's Sodality; Knights of Columbus Auxiliary; Osage County Extension Council; Linn Garden Club; Linn Womens Club; Osage County Historical Society; and she was a 4-H Leader.
Survivors include: one son, Gary Maasen, Linn; four daughters, Patricia Oidtman, Linn; Mary Lou Luecker, New Haven, Betty Jane Bill, Fulton, Kathleen Loethen, Linn; two brothers, Bud Jaegers, Linn, and Victor Jaegers, Linn; three sisters, Florence Samson, Linn, Legora Ray, Sedalia, and Viola Schaefer, Union; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. George Church, Linn. The Rev. Father Paul Hartley will officiate. Burial will be at St. George Cemetery, Linn. A special prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in Morton Chapel, Linn.
Memorials are suggested to St. George Activity Center and St. George Church, Linn.
SANDERS
Nellie Rose Sanders, 67, Jefferson City, died Jan. 19, 2001, at Capital Region Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 21, 1933, in Ethel, a daughter of Clarence N. and Amy A. Eitel Isaacson. She was married April 1, 1952, in Little Rock, Ark., to Leroy G. Sanders, who died June 12, 1980.
She attended school in Huntsville. A homemaker, she was previously employed by the Missouri Department of Revenue for 20 years until retiring in 1969. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one sister, Pearl Upschulte, Jefferson City; and one brother: Philip Isaacson, Holts Summit.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Freeman Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Doyle Sager will officiate. Burial will be at Longview Cemetery.
Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Monday.
