AVEY

Ora M. Avey, 87, Versailles, died Feb. 21, 2001, at Golden Age Living Center, Stover.

He was born June 14, 1913, in Newton, Kan., a son of Carl and Mabel Williams Avey. He was married Feb. 13, 1934, to Frances Farnik, who died Nov. 10, 1998.

He was a farmer and owned Avey Mobile Home Court, Versailles.

Survivors include: five sons, David Avey, Versailles, Larry Avey and Phillip Avey, both of Lincoln, Lavern Avey, Fortuna, and Ronnie Avey, Odessa; five daughters, Rose Bell, Raytown, Marcella Hunter, Tampa, Fla., Loretta Partain, Lancaster, Calif., Lois Marriott, Springfield, and Linda Koester, Stover; one sister, Effie Knoll, Brighton, Colo.; 22 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles. Jeanie Leeper will officiate. Burial will be in Versailles Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Golden Age Living Center, Stover.

CAMDEN

Alean Camden, 83, Montreal, died Feb. 22, 2001, at her home.

She was born Jan. 29, 1918, in Camden County, a daughter of William E. and Minnie Imo Johnston McDowell. She was married July 3, 1937, in St. Louis, to Winford G. Camden, who died Nov. 28, 1990.

She worked as an assembler in factories. She attended Buffalo Prairie Baptist Church, Montreal.

She is survived by one stepson, Bill Buffington, Montreal.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hedges Funeral Home, Camdenton. Burial will be in Buffalo Prairie Cemetery, Montreal.

Visitation will be from noon-2 p.m. Saturday.

CASSADY

Jeffery Curtis Cassady, 31, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., formerly of  Jefferson City, died Feb. 15, 2001, in Ft. Lauderdale.

He was born July 1, 1969, in  Jefferson City, a son of Joe and Karen Curtis Cassady. His father and stepmother, Joe and Anne Cassady, survive in  Jefferson City. His mother and stepfather, Karen and Edward Wright, survive in Tulsa, Okla.

He graduated magna cum laude from Florida Atlantic University in December with a degree in health administration. He was a certified massage therapist and personal trainer. He had recently received his real estate license.

Other survivors include: one brother, Jay Cassady,  Jefferson City; one sister, Cindy Nevins, St. Charles; maternal grandmother, Elaine Curtis, Claremore, Okla.; and paternal grandmother, Mary Cassady,  Jefferson City.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Freeman Mortuary. The Rev. Dr. Stephen Buchholz will officiate.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Sunday.

Memorials are suggested to Special Olympics or the Special Learning Center.

HUGHES

Bertie Ann Hughes, 93, Eldon, died Feb. 22, 2001, at Eldon Health Care.

She was born April 7, 1907, in Illmo, a daughter of James B. and Gertrude Jane Burnett Barnett. She was married Aug. 1, 1925, in Granite City, Ill., to Macy Edward Hughes, who died Jan. 12, 1997.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, Bethany Lutheran Church and the National Council of Senior Citizens.

Survivors include: two daughters, Gertrude Jane Neely, New Bloomfield, and Lois June Miller, Eldon; one sister, Gertrude Jane Bellville, Ferguson; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rekus Funeral Home, Eldon. The Rev. Steve Riordan will officiate. Burial will be in Greenmore Memorial Gardens, Barnett.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.

Memorials are suggested to Christ the King Building Fund.

KING

Era L. King, 94, Lake Ozark, died Feb. 22, 2001, at Lake Regional Health Center, Osage Beach.

She was born Aug. 21, 1906, in Pell City, Ala., a daughter of Edward and Flora Pike Patterson. She was married Dec. 24, 1927, in Jackson, Tenn., to Bruce King, who died in 1979.

She was a weaver for Bemis Cotton Mill, Bemis, Tenn. She was a member of the Riverview Baptist Church, Osage Beach.

Survivors include: three sons, B.C. King, Lake Ozark, Jack King, Buchanan, Tenn., and Murray King, Brumley; one daughter, Marie Sisk, Overland Park, Kan.; two sisters, Mildred Sisk, Enden, Miss., and Katherine Ramey, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, seven step grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, nine step great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Two grandchildren preceded her in death.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Riverview Baptist Church. Burial will be in Lake Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Osage Beach.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Hedges Funeral Home, Osage Beach.

Memorials are suggested to the Riverview Baptist Church Remodeling Fund.

KOCH

Anne B. Koch, 63,  Jefferson City, died Feb. 22, 2001, at her home.

She was born April 11, 1937, in  Jefferson City, a daughter of Albert and Allie M. Brooks Covington. She was married Sept. 26, 1959, in  Jefferson City, to Darrell D. Koch, who died Feb. 16, 1988.

A graduate of  Jefferson City High School, she received a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She was employed as a teacher with the  Jefferson City Public Schools and worked with the Missouri State Board of Cosmetology. She worked part-time at Whaley's East End Pharmacy.

A lifelong resident of the  Jefferson City area, she was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and was a member of the hand bell choir. She was a member of PEO, Chapter JV, and Chi Omega Sorority.

Survivors include: one daughter, Lynne A. White ,  Jefferson City; two sons, David W. Koch, Henley, and Mark C. Koch, Fulton; one sister, Joyce Chirnside, Cape Girardeau; one brother, William Covington, Freeport, Maine; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Freeman Mortuary. The Rev. L. Kyle Hern will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday.

Memorials are suggested to the Food Pantry at First United Methodist Church or to the Coalition Against Rape and Domestic Violence, Fulton.

POWERS

Lorna Powers, 76, Van Nuys, Calif., died Feb. 19, 2001, at Northridge Hospital in Van Nuys, Calif.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Oaklawn Cemetery in Richland under the direction of Allee Holman-Howe Funeral Homes in Camdenton.

HANCOCK

Ernest Neil Hancock, 60, north Kansas City, died Feb. 22, 2001, at his home.

He was the son of Joe and Faye Silkwood Hancock.

He was a probation and parole officer for the Central Missouri region. He was a member of the Elks Lodge 2517 in Osage Beach and Springfield. He was a veteran of the armed services.

Survivors include: two sons, Jabe Hancock, Kansas City, and Luke Hancock, Lake Ozark; two sisters, Kaye Mathews, Doniphan, and Linda Kempf, Springfield; and one grandson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Hedges Funeral Home, Osage Beach.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday.

GORDON

Herbert L. "Herb" Gordon, 86,  Jefferson City, died Feb. 23, 2001, at Capital Region Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 6, 1915, in Cedar City, a son of Walter L. and Margaret Sue Gordon. He was married Aug. 18, 1938, to Rosemary Edwards, who survives at the home.

A lifelong resident of  Jefferson City, he was a 1932 graduate of  Jefferson City High School. He attended  Jefferson City Junior College. He owned and operated Herb Gordon Appliance Company from 1939 until his death. In 1948, he became a general electric dealer. In 1959, he moved his business to its current location on Missouri Boulevard.

He was the charter president of the  Jefferson City Jay Football Booster Club in 1955. He was a member of the Independent Order of the Oddfellows in Tebbetts.

Other survivors include: one daughter, Susie Gordon Downard, Ponte Verde, Fla.; one son: Bo Gordon, Lake Ozark; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday in the Freeman Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Lawrence Veatch and the Rev. Doug Walter will officiate. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Freeman Mortuary.

Memorials are suggested to the  Jefferson City Jay Football Foundation, the First Christian Church Capital Campaign and the Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Osage Beach.

KROUSE

Herbert Krouse, 90, Crocker, died Feb. 24, 2001, at Breech Medical Center, Lebanon.

He was born Sept. 3, 1910, at Crocker, a son of Herman and Nora Payne Krouse. He was married June 9, 1938, in Crocker, to Effie Mae Wrinkle, who died Feb. 23, 1993.

He was a member of Crocker Presbyterian Church, where he was Sunday School superintendent for 20 years and an elder of the church. He was also a member of the Lions Club. A lifelong farmer in Pulaski County, he had also worked as a carpenter and as a rural mail carrier.

He is survived by one sister, Marie Neal, Crocker.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Crocker Presbyterian Church. The Rev. William K. Knudsen will officiate. Burial will be in the Crocker Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today in Long Funeral Home, Crocker, and from 9-10 a.m. Monday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the Crocker Presbyterian Church.
