HODGES

Earl Leslie Hodges, 84,  Jefferson City, died Feb. 24, 2001, at Hospice House of  Jefferson City.

He was born Dec. 10, 1916, in Barnett, a son of Lloyd and Gusta Bowles Hodges. He was married May 28, 1942, at Versailles, to Mildred Beatrice Marriott, who died Oct. 31, 1990.

He had attended school at Barnett and was a member of the First Baptist Church. He had worked at Tweedies Footwear Corp. and also for Missouri Prison Industries, retiring as foreman of the furniture factory in 1981. He was a master woodworking craftsman.

Survivors include: one son, Dennis W. Hodges,  Jefferson City; one sister, Mildred Papen, California; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church,  Jefferson City. Doyle Sager will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at Buescher Memorial Home.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice House of  Jefferson City.

McMILLIAN

Verna McMillian, 88, California, died Feb. 23, 2001, at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia.

She was born Feb. 29, 1912, in Camden County, a daughter of Leonard and Milinda Baker Arnold.

She was married Dec. 24, 1936, in Camden County to Stanley McMillian, who died March 1, 1987.

She owned and drove a school bus, with her husband, for the California Schools, and later was a sewer for the California Manufacturing Co. She retired in 1975. She was a member of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America, Local No. 782.

Survivors include: one son, Kenneth McMillian, California; two daughters, Verni Brownfield, Centertown, and Peggy Davison, Irvine, Calif.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

One daughter, Shirley Fischer, died Nov. 24, 1997.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California, with the Rev. Frank Goosie officiating. Burial will be in the Tipton Masonic Cemetery, Tipton.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society's Moniteau Chapter, in care of Judy Allee, at P.O. Box 333, Latham, MO 65050.

MELIA

Martin H. Melia, 61, Gravois Mills, died Feb. 24, 2001, at his home.

He was born Feb. 14, 1940, in Omaha, Neb., a son of Wallace and Mary Gray Melia. He was married June 13, 1959, to Sharon Chaffin, who survives at the home.

He was a parts supervisor for the John Deere Company in Kansas City before retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Shrine of Saint Patrick Catholic Church, Laurie, and the Knights of Columbus.

Other survivors include: three sons, Wally Melia and Mike Melia, both of Houston, Texas , and Timothy Melia, Olathe, Kan.; two daughters, Colleen Pye, Houston, Texas , and Peggy Hill, Omaha; one half-brother, Ricky Neary, New York; and 12 grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Shrine of Saint Patrick Catholic Church, Laurie. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Kidwell-Garber Laurie-Sunrise Beach Chapel, Laurie, with a prayer service at 6 p.m.

SELLERS

Thomas Jay Joseph Sellers Jr., 43, Russellville, died Feb. 23, 2001, at St. Marys Health Center.

He was born May 12, 1957, in St. Louis, a son of Thomas Joseph Sr. and Jeanette Carol Basye Sellers. His father survives in Overland; His mother survives in O'Fallon. He was married June 3, 1981, at Bridgeton, to Wanda Elwood who survives at the home.

He had worked for the St. Louis Housing Authority in building maintenance.

Other survivors include: two sons, Lee Elwood Phillips and Steven Russell Montgomery, both of St. Louis; and three brothers, William H. Downs, Don C. Sellers and John P. Sellers, all of St. Louis.

He was preceded in death by one sister.

There is no visitation scheduled. His body was cremated.

Memorials are suggested to the Lions Eye Bank.

Arrangements are under the direction of Weber and Sons Funeral Home, Russellville.

PURL

Wilburt "Dick" Purl, 84, Versailles, died Feb. 24, 2001, at Capital Region Medical Center.

He was born March 22, 1916, in Stover, a son of Lee A. and Alice Cornett Purl.

An Army veteran of World War II, he was employed by General Motors Leeds Plant, Kansas City, before his retirement.

Survivors include: one daughter, Wanda K. Thompson, Versailles; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandsons.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles. Burial will be in Versailles Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. today.

HILL

Vera M. Hill, 86, California, died Feb. 24, 2001, at Moniteau Care Center, California.

She was born Sept. 9, 1914, in Lincoln, Neb., a daughter of Roy H. and Mary Lenore Knott Quincy. She was married Oct. 4, 1946, in Kansas City, to Hugh D. Hill, who died March 6, 1979.

She graduated from Lincoln High School, Lincoln Business School and the University of Nebraska School of Music, all in Lincoln.

She was a bookkeeper at Todd-Hogge Ford for 15 years, and worked for Putnam Chevrolet.

She also was a farmer, concert violinist, artist and airplane pilot.

She was a member of the Twin City Garden Club in California.

Survivors include: one son, Dr. L.H. "Hughie" Van Horne, Florence, Ala.; and one brother, Eugene L. Quincy, Vero Beach, Fla.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, California. The Rev. Carol Koenig will officiate. Burial will be in California City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to California United Methodist Church, 201 S. Oak St., California, Mo. 65018.

AGAN

David L. Agan, 53, Osage Beach, died Feb. 24, 2001, at Lake Regional Hospital, Osage Beach.

He was born May 24, 1947, in Manilla, Iowa, a son of Charles and Olive Vermule Agan. His parents survive in Manilla. He was married June 6, 1970, in Manilla, to Becky Schwiesow, who survives at the home.

He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the military for 23 years until his retirement as a sergeant. A resident of the Lake area for the past 10 years, he was employed in the service department at Yacht Club Marina.

He was a member of Manilla United Methodist Church, Manilla.

Other survivors include: two sons, Chad Agan, Columbia, and Rob Agan, Lake Ozark; two brothers, Charles E. Agan, Manilla, and Richard Agan, Anoka, Minn.; and two grandsons.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Harper Chapel United Methodist Church, Osage Beach. The Rev. Bob Hickman will officiate. Burial will be in Lake Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Osage Beach.

Visitation will be from 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday at Hedges Funeral Home, Osage Beach.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

BROWN

Dorothy Ann Brown, 80,  Jefferson City, died Feb. 25, 2001, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born Nov. 17, 1920, in Wellsville, a daughter of Opal V. and Teresa Hughes Brown.

A 1940 graduate of St. Peter's High School, she was a clerk-typist for the Missouri National Guard for more than 30 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and a 50-year member of the Daughters of Isabella.

Survivors include: two brothers, John H. Brown and Thomas L. Brown, both of  Jefferson City; three sisters, Mary Sue Hemmel, Lee's Summit, Catherine T. Brown,  Jefferson City, and Rose Marie Schell, Tullahoma, Tenn.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Home for the Aged. Msgr. Charles Patterson will officiate. Entombment will be in Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Home for the Aged.

Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph's Home for the Aged.

Arrangements are under the direction of Houser-Millard Funeral Home.

CARICO

Glee Carico, 94,  Jefferson City, died Feb. 25, 2001, at Green Meadows Nursing Center, Linn.

She was born Dec. 29, 1906, in Ulman, a daughter of Walter M. and Ida Bass Burks. She was married Aug. 6, 1928, in  Jefferson City, to William Ovid Carico, who died Sept. 15, 1972.

A homemaker, she had lived in Ulman and was a member of Ulman Christian Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Pinet and Linda Kelsey, both of  Jefferson City, one granddaughter and one great-grandson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia. Rick Yoder will officiate. Burial will be in Gott Cemetery, near Ulman.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday.

Memorials are suggested to Ulman Christian Church or Gott Cemetery.
