ROST
Helen Theresa Rost, 99, Jefferson City, died March 4, 2001, at St. Joseph Home for the Aged.
She was born Oct. 16, 1901, in Jefferson City, a daughter of Frank John and Margaret Hentges Rost.
She attended Immaculate Conception and St. Peter Catholic Schools. Employed with Dallmeyer's Department Store and Clibourne's Ready to Wear Store, she spent most of her life attending family at home.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Ann Sodality and Western Catholic Union.
She is survived by one brother, Charles L. Rost, Jefferson City.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Home for the Aged. Msgr. Charles H. Patterson will officiate. Entombment will be in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., and from noon-1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Home for the Aged.
Memorials are suggested to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or St. Joseph Home for the Aged.
SMITH
Edward Bates Smith, 84, Rocky Mount, died March 3, 2001, at Lake Regional Hospital.
He was born Sept. 26, 1916, in Willard, Ohio, a son of Maurice C. and Mary Lorena Bates Smith.
He worked as a dispatcher for an auto transit company.
Survivors include: one son, Billy Edward Smith, Wichita Falls, Texas , and one granddaughter.
The remains were cremated.
Arrangements are under the direction of Rekus Funeral Home, Eldon.
LANG
Raymond C. Lang, 81, Morrison, died March 4, 2001, at Hermann Area District Hospital, Hermann.
He was born Oct. 9, 1919, at Morrison, a son of George H. and Selma Whertwine Lang. He was married to Marie Sanchez. She preceded him in death.
He was a lifelong resident of Central Missouri and was employed at General Motors, St. Louis. He was in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in Normandy, Northern France, Ardenes Rhineland and Central Europe. He received five bronze stars.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Morton Funeral Home, Linn. Burial will be in Fredricksburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9:30-11 a.m. Thursday.
Memorials are suggested to the Fredricksburg Cemetery Association.
SCHULTE
Mildred Marie Schulte, 74, Taos, died March 4, 2001, at Green Meadows Skilled Care Center, Linn.
She was born Nov. 30, 1926, in Bonnots Mill, a daughter of Anton J. Jr. and Gertude Koetting Backes. She was married May 30, 1964, in Taos, to Hubert Schulte, who died Jan. 20, 1994.
She worked in the laundry department at St. Marys Health Center for several years and was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Taos.
She is survived by two sisters, Evelyn T. Eynard, Kansas City, and Margaret "Peggy" Westburg, Woodland Hills, Calif.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. The Rev. J. David Maher will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7:30 p.m. today at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.
BIERMANN
Earl A. Biermann, 79, Fulton, died March 1, 2001, at his home.
He was born Jan. 25, 1922, in St. Louis, a son of Archie and Anna Alwes Biermann.
He retired in 1979 as captain of the St. Louis City Fire Department Engine Company 9. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of VFW 2657, St. Louis Association of Retired Professional Fire Fighters, Fraternal Order of the Eagles Lodge in Jefferson City and St. Peters Catholic Church in Fulton.
Survivors include: two sons, Michael Biermann, Washington , D.C., and Patrick Biermann, St. Louis; one daughter, Barbara Biermann, New York City; one sister, Carole Duncan, Columbia; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Peters Catholic Church. Fr. William Korte will officiate. Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis.

COCKRELL
Frances S. Cockrell, 92, Eldon, died March 5, 2001, in Eldon.
She was born Aug. 30, 1908, in Eldon, a daughter of Franklin P. and Ethel M. Crane Shoemaker. She was married May 28, 1938, in Sedalia, to Charles C. Cockrell, who died March 25, 1973.
She was a clerical worker for Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company. A member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Warsaw, and United Methodist Church, she taught school in Eldon and had been a longtime resident of Warsaw.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. The Rev. Fred Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Eldon City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Thursday.
Memorials are suggested to Gideon's International or a charity of the donor's choice.
HART
Irene Christine Hart, 89, Jefferson City, died March 4, 2001, at Capital City Health Care.
She was born Dec. 6, 1911, in Quincy, Ill., a daughter of Thomas R. and Rose Murce Gibson. She was married May 16, 1933, in Palmyra, to David Corydell Hart, who died Jan. 6, 1972.
A former resident of Edina, she worked in farming in Knox County for most of her life. She attended St. Joseph Catholic Church, Edina.
Survivors include: one daughter, Wilma Walker, Jefferson City; one half brother, Bill Gibson, Quincy; one half sister, Mary Lou Winfield, Liberty, Ill.; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-granddaughters.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, Edina. The Rev. Bill Peckman will officiate. Burial will be in Linville Cemetery, Edina.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday.
VEHLEWALD
Elmer Verney Vehlewald, 84, Linn, died March 5, 2001, at his home.
He was born Oct. 29, 1916, in Fredericksburg, a son of Henry J. and Nora Herzog Vehlewald. He was married April 16, 1944, to Myrtle Lietzow, who survives at the home.
He attended school in Fredericksburg. A former resident of Morrison, he was a farmer in Osage County for most of his life. He was a member of Zion-St. Peter United Church of Christ, Pershing.
Other survivors include: one son, Verney V. Vehlewald, Loveland, Ohio; two daughters, Valora Budnik, Linn, and Arlene N. Stewart, Jefferson City; one brother, Lendo Vehlewald, Bridgeton; one sister, Florence Durnal, Bridgeton; five grandchildren and three great-grandsons.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Zion-St. Peter United Church of Christ. The Rev. Bruce Edwards and Chaplain Bart Larson will officiate. Burial will be in Fredericksburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Morton Funeral Home, Linn.
Memorials are suggested to the Fredericksburg Cemetery Association.
BIRNEY
Dale L. Birney, 66, Sunrise Beach, died March 5, 2001, at Lake Regional Health System, Osage Beach.
He was born Dec. 2, 1934, in Sublette, Kan., a son of Earl and Juel Nelson Birney. He was married on July 14, 1957, to Kathleen "Kitty" Dunham, who survives at the home.
Birney was a retired CPA and chartered Birney & Company in Garden City, Kan. He served on the board of directors for the Kansas Society of Certified Public Accountants and was also the board's president. He was a former member and president of the Garden City Chamber of Commerce, a member of the American Institute of CPA's, and a member of the Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church, Laurie. He was a member of the Osage Community Elks Lodge 2705 in Laurie, American Legion Zack Wheat Post 624 of Sunrise Beach, and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Other survivors include: one son, David R. Birney, Hutchison, Kan.; two daughters, Kathy Figger, Hudson, Kan., and Karen Scheopner, Topeka, Kan.; one brother, R. Max Birney, Golden, Colo.; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Garden City United Methodist Church, Garden City, Kan. Burial will be in the Haskell County Cemetery near Sublette.
Memorials are suggested to Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church, Laurie, or United Methodist Church, Garden City.
