MILLER

Thomas B. Miller, 79, Kirkwood, formerly of  Jefferson City, died March 15, 2001, in Chesterfield.

He was born April 20, 1921, in Salem, Mass., a son of Gervase and Nora Miller. He was married Jan. 14, 1944, to Gloria Bethel, who died in 1970.

A veteran of World War II, he lived in  Jefferson City for 35 years. He worked for the Missouri National Guard in  Jefferson City for 34 years, retiring in 1980.

Survivors include: one daughter, DeDe Loesch, Chesterfield; one son, Greg Miller, Chesterfield; and four grandchildren.

The remains were cremated. Inurnment will be at a later date in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

Arrangements were under the direction of Buchholtz West Funeral Home, Chesterfield.

GLOVER

Anna V. Glover, 95, Sunrise Beach, died March 27, 2001, at Windsor Estates, Camdenton.

She was born Oct. 27, 1905, in Kansas City, a daughter of George and Jenny Hahn. She was married March 16, 1921, to Walter S. Glover, who died in 1972.

She was a homemaker and a member of Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church in Laurie.

Survivors include: one son, Robert Glover, Lawrence, Kan.; one half brother, John Gillispie, Independence; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church. The Rev. James Lawley will officiate. Burial will be in Versailles Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles.

FRANKLIN

Dulcie Juanita Franklin, 97, Laurie, died March 26, 2001.

She was born May 30, 1903, in Yale, Iowa, a daughter of Byron O. and Jennie Lind Harvey Yale. She was married in 1921 to Walter Monroe Derry. She was married in 1951 to George Franklin Jr., who died in July 1982.

She lived most of her life in Gravois Mills and  Jefferson, Iowa, where she graduated from  Jefferson High School. She wrote for several publications and authored a column called "Senior Citizen Soliloquy" in The Globe Free Press in Grand Junction, Iowa.

Survivors include: two sons, Daniel Jerome Derry, Fort Dodge, Iowa, and James Francis Derry, state of Washington ; two daughters, Barbara Joline Mosher, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Jacqueline Faye Grider, Versailles; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

The remains will be cremated. Graveside services will be in April in  Jefferson, Iowa.

Memorials are suggested in the form of planting a tree.

Arrangements are under the direction of Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Laurie.

BURRIS

Robert E. "Bob" Burris Sr., 82, Versailles, died March 26, 2001, at Capital Region Medical Center.

He was born June 24, 1918, in Glensted, a son of the Rev. Shelby and Jossie Letchworth Burris. He was married in 1937 to Lulu Mae Webb, who preceded him in death.

He graduated from North East High School, Kansas City, Kan., and moved to Sedalia, where he worked for Duff and Sterling Buick Motor Company. He returned to Versailles in 1937 and worked for Hunter-McDonough Chevrolet Motor Company and later Versailles Ford Motor Company. He also worked at Bill Todd's Ford Dealership, California, City Service Garage, Webster Grove, and Conoco Oil Company, Versailles.

He was an Army veteran of World War II. In 1946, he opened Bob's Motor Service, the first African-American business in Versailles. He sold the business and retired in 1991. He was a member of General Motor Training Council, Shawnee Mission, Kan.; Versailles Chamber of Commerce; charter member of the James Meachum American Legion Post 474, Versailles; and lifetime member of VFW Post 5902, Gravois Mills.

He was president of the Washington School P.T.A., Versailles. He served as an alderman in Versailles, on the Versailles Planning Commission, on the Selective Service Board and as a member of the Local Government Council, Camdenton. He was a member of the Sheriff's Association, the Businessman's Association and the NAACP.

In 1996, he was selected as one of the most revered older African-Americans in Mid-Missouri by Lincoln University and was the 1997 recipient of the Versailles Citizen of the Year Award. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church, Versailles, where he was a lifetime trustee and served as church treasurer.

Survivors include: one son, Robert Burris Jr., Wentzville; one brother, Lawyer Burris, Versailles; two granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren.

One son, James Allen Burris, and one infant son preceded him in death.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Second Baptist Church, Versailles. The Rev. Robert Ross and the Rev. William Snorgrass will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Versailles Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the Robert E. Burris Sr. Memorial Fund for the Second Baptist Church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home, Versailles.

McFADDEN

Helen R. McFadden,  Jefferson City, died March 28, 2001, at  Jefferson City Manor Care Center.

She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, a daughter of Walter D. and Martha Schefski Rumel. She was married Sept. 22, 1945, in Houston, Texas , to Kirk L. McFadden.

She was a was a graduate of Southwest High School, Kansas City, and attended college in Kansas City. She worked for Trans World Airlines and the Federal Aviation Administration. She was a member of Meadow Lake Acres Country Club, the Missouri Ladies Amateur Golf Association and several local bridge clubs.

One daughter, Helen Suzann McFadden, died in 1946.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home. The Rev. Murl Nash will officiate. Services also will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Moriah Cemetery's Chapel of Home, Kansas City. Entombment will be in Mount Moriah Garden of Faith Mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

NAPIER

Edward Allison Napier, 47,  Jefferson City, died March 26, 2001, at St. Marys Health Center.

He was born March 26, 1954, in Detroit, a son of Edward C. and Rose Armstrong Napier. His mother survives in Hamtramck, Mich.

A graduate of Osborn High School, Detroit, he was a veteran of the Navy and the Army. He was employed by General Motors Corp., Detroit.

He was a member of the Baptist Church. He was organizer and band leader for the Sly Dog Band,  Jefferson City.

Other survivors include: two sons, Eric Napier and Craig Napier, both of Detroit; two daughters, Dawn Marie Napier, New Baltimore, Mich., and Amber Lynn Napier, state of Florida; one stepdaughter, Jennifer Cronin, Berlin, Germany; two brothers, Kevin Dale Napier, Jenison, Mich., and Timothy Dwight Napier, Cornelius, N.C.; one half brother, Russell C. Napier, Yerkes, Ky.; and one sister, Freda Sue Napier, Cincinnati.

Services will be held in Ann Arbor, Mich. Burial will be in Washtenong Memorial Park Cemetery, Ann Arbor.

Memorials are suggested to Hope Rehabilitation Center, Grand Rapids, Mich.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Buescher Memorial Home.

SHOCKLEY

Rosella Mae Shockley, 72, Versailles, died March 27, 2001, at Capital Healthcare Center,  Jefferson City.

She was born June 25, 1928, in Salt Fork, Okla., a daughter of William R. and Goldtenna Mack Thomas. She was married Jan. 10, 1944, in Versailles, to Oral A. "Babe" Shockley, who died April 29, 1974.

She moved to Morgan County in 1934. She worked on the family farm in the Hopewell and Barnett area for more than 25 years. She was a member of the Christian Church of Hopewell.

Survivors include: one brother, Roy Thomas, Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; one sister, Elsie Williams, Versailles; and one stepbrother, Roy C. Marriott Jr., Columbia.

Her stepfather, Roy C. Marriott Sr., preceded her in death.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles. Ronnie Hess will officiate. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday.

BRADY

George Wallace Brady Sr., 97, New Bloomfield, died March 27, 2001, in New Bloomfield.

He was born May 13, 1903, in Kansas City, Kan., a son of David W. and Mable Ann Brady. He was married to Verna Illingsworth, who died in 1948. He was married in 1951 to Hazel H. Cathel, who died June 6, 1992.

He owned and operated Gladstone Resort, Gravois Mills, until retirement. He was a member of Ozark Baptist Church, Laurie.

Survivors include: one son, George W. Brady Jr., Peculiar; one stepdaughter, Virginia Mastin, Versailles; eight grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

One son, Donald Lee Brady, preceded him in death.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Laurie. The Rev. Nick Stutesman will officiate. Burial will be in Dale Blair Cemetery, Camdenton.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Saturday.

DICKERSON

Nettie Boyd Dickerson, 81, Eldon, died March 27, 2001, in  Jefferson City.

She was born Oct. 21, 1919, in Ulman, a daughter of Willard R. and Maggie Jane McDaniel Boyd. She was married Feb. 24, 1954, in Brumley, to Ted Dickerson, who died Nov. 4, 1967.

She worked in a shoe factory and as a hostess and waitress. She attended the Ninth Street Christian Church, Eldon.

Survivors include: two daughters, Patsy Keyes, Hartsburg, and Joyce Miller, Denton, Texas ; one son, Gary Flaugher, Raytown; two sisters, Edith Richards, Columbia, and Elva Steen, Eldon; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

One grandson preceded her in death.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. The Rev. Gene Edwards will officiate. Burial will be in Gott Cemetery, Ulman.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday.

Memorials are suggested to Gott Cemetery.
