SMITH

Ethel Mae Smith, 95, Jamestown, died April 8, 2001, at Riverdell Care Center, Boonville.

She was born April 7, 1906, in Lupus, a daughter of Benjamin and Roxie Belle Clay Henderson. She was married to Hugh Sullins, who preceded her in death. She was married to Carl Hopkins, who preceded her in death. She was married Sept. 3, 1964, in Lupus, to Elmo W. Smith, who died July 5, 1991.

A homemaker, she was a member of Jamestown Baptist Church, Jamestown.

Survivors include one sister, Arlene Kuhn, Jamestown.

One daughter, Claybelle Sullins, died March 26, 2000.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Jamestown Baptist Church. The Rev. Myron Couch will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Jamestown.

Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church.

Memorials are suggested to Jamestown Baptist Church, c/o Norris Herndon, 21156 Hwy. 179, Jamestown, Mo. 65046.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, California.

ZIMMERMAN

Bernyce L. Zimmerman, 95, El Cajon, Calif., formerly of California, Mo., died April 8, 2001, in El Cajon.

She was born Sept. 9, 1906, in California, Mo., a daughter of John W. and Hester C. Harris Asahl. She was married Aug. 24, 1929, in Greenville, Ill., to George Clemons Zimmerman, who survives in El Cajon.

She worked as a clerk in the El Cajon Court Systems and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in San Diego.

Other survivors include one daughter, Sylvia Binley, El Cajon, one sister, Sylvia Meyer, Boonville, and one grandson.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Masonic Cemetery, California, Mo. The Rev. Billy Potter will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, California.

ASHER

Sarah Elizabeth "Lizzie" Asher, 96, Camdenton, died April 8, 2001, at Osage Beach Health Care Center.

She was born Aug. 10, 1904, in Camdenton, a daughter of Alfred and Maude Cullen Morrison. She was married Sept. 29, 1922, to Amos Asher, who died in 1994.

A homemaker, she was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one son, Harold Asher, Camdenton; one brother, Henry Morrison, Anderson, Calif.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Hill Church. The Rev. Dennis North will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. today at Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Camdenton.

Memorials are suggested to Pleasant Hill Church.

BESCHE

Bryce Dean Besche, 26, Russellville, died April 8, 2001.

He was born Sept. 11, 1974, in  Jefferson City, a son of Lonnie and Bettie Moon Besche.

A graduate of Russellville High School, he worked for the Allen W. Plastering Company.

Survivors include: three sons, Nicholas Besche, Christian Besche and Tyler Besche, all of Holts Summit; and two brothers, Jason Besche and Daniel Rockelman, both of Russellville.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Burial will be private.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.

MATEJKA

Albert "Ab" Matejka, 79, New Port Richey, Fla., died April 6, 2001, in New Port Richey.

He was born May 27, 1921, in Rockford, Ill., a son of Albert L. and Nora Meyer Matejka. He was married Aug. 24, 1940, to Fern Nessl, who survives at the home.

A former resident of Golden Beach, he was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Eldon. He was a Merchant Marine veteran of World War II. He was a truck driver and a member of the Teamsters Union.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Donna Kay Eyers, Hudson, Fla., and Tamara Elaine Bryant, Everton; one son, Lynn Gene Matejka, Barnett; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

One granddaughter preceded him in death.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Assembly of God Church. The Rev. James Hedrick will officiate. Burial will be in Versailles Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.

PRICE

Donald C. Price, 74, Holts Summit, died April 7, 2001, at his home.

He was born Oct. 30, 1926, in Pacific, a son of Edward and Pinnie Meyers Price.

A 1945 graduate of Pacific High School, he worked for Missouri Pacific Railroad from 1947 to 1987. An Army veteran, he was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 2693.

Survivors include: one daughter, Donna Feagans, Fort Collins, Colo.; one sister, Doris Collins, Knob Noster; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home. The Rev. Alan Michel will officiate. Burial will be in Fort Collins.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army.

SHAFFER

Steven K Shaffer, 49, Linn, died April 10, 2001, at his home.

He was born Jan. 26, 1952, in Neosho, a son of Vernon and Lavilla Gallion Shaffer. He was married Dec. 31, 1992, in Corpus Christi, Texas , to Susan A. Perry, who survives at the home.

A Marine Corps veteran, he was employed by Asbestos Removal Services Inc., Holts Summit. He was a member of Laborer's Local 662.

Other survivors include: one son, Steven K Shaffer II, Newburg; one daughter, Rebecca Whittaker, Rolla; two stepdaughters, Jennifer Clark and Megan Clark, both of the home; one stepson, Matthew Clark, of the home; two sisters, Martha C. Pogue, Rolla, and Kathleen Williams, Licking; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at Morton Funeral Home, Linn. The Rev. Marci DeVier will officiate. The remains were cremated.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials are suggested to Community Hospice, Columbia.

STARR

Harold R. Starr, 88, Linn, died April 10, 2001, at his home.

He was born Oct. 24, 1912, in Grundy County, a son of Morgan J. and Hazel Crowder Starr. He was married Jan. 1, 1946, in Linn, to Edna J. Curtiss, who survives at the home.

He worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He farmed in Boone County and was named Missouri Tree Farmer of the Year in 1992. He owned and operated the Home Furnishing Company in Linn for 29 years and was a Farm Security Administration local agent.

He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, where he was president of the men's club, taught Sunday school, was on the board of trustees and was involved in the choir. He was president of the Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Industrial Development Board of Osage County. A member of the county welfare committee, he was on the board of the Osage Country Club. He was a member of the Lion's Club and taught at the Veteran's Agriculture Class. He was a member of Linn School Board and the Linn Technical College Advisory Board.

A graduate of the University of Missouri Agriculture School, he was chairman of the Osage County MU Alumni Association.

Other survivors include: two sons, Russell A. Starr and Jim L. Starr, both of Columbia; one daughter, Carol L. Mesey, Russellville; one sister, Joy Zumwalt, Columbia; and four grandchildren.

One son, Daryl Starr, preceded him in death.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John's United Methodist Church, Linn. The Rev. Tony Townley will officiate. Burial will be in Linn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Morton Funeral Home, Linn.

Memorials are suggested to St. John's United Methodist Church.
