BREKKE

Ellen Joanne Brekke, 73,  Jefferson City, died April 21, 2001, at her home.

She was born March 25, 1928, in Springfield, a daughter of Charles and Clara Cummins Wade.

She was married May 30, 1959, in Springfield, to Ellis Bernarr Brekke, who survives.

She was a 1945 graduate of Central High School, Springfield. She earned her bachelor of arts degree from Drury College, Springfield, in 1949, and her master of science degree in 1955 from the University of  Oklahoma.

She was a biology teacher and speech therapist for a number of schools including Southwest and Southeast Missouri state universities and public schools in Springfield, Casper, Wyo., Jamestown and Russellville.

She was a member of the Janis Club and the Pi Beta Phi Sorority at Drury College.

She was a member of the Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship.

Other survivors include: two sons, Charles E. Brekke, Edmond, Okla., and Tom W. Brekke, Springfield.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship, which meets at the Shikles Auditorium, 1200 Linden Dr. Michael B. Adamek will officiate. Burial will be in the Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Saturday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship Building Fund.

GIBSON

Mary L. Gibson, 97, Warrensburg, formerly of  Jefferson City, died April 22, 2001, at Country Club Care Center.

She was born Oct. 31, 1903, in Mt. Vernon, Ill., a daughter of Eldridge N. and Nellie Hill Webb. She was married Nov. 8, 1924, in Mt. Vernon, to Harold Gibson, who died Aug. 7, 1993.

A homemaker, she worked as a hat maker before her marriage. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She had been a resident of Sedalia.

Survivors include: one son, Earl Gibson, Harrisonville; two daughters, Martha Smarr, Warrensburg, and Ellen Moore, Brewer, Maine; nine grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sweeney-Phillips and Holdren Funeral Home, Warrensburg. The Rev. Alex Wales will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Warrensburg.

Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church Building Fund.

GASS

Lillian Ianthia Gass, 78, Stover, died April 20, 2001, at Bothwell Regional Health Center, Sedalia.

She was born Nov. 30, 1922, in Knoxville, Tenn., a daughter of Noah Lee and Delsie Ardtha Biggs Ramsey. She was married to Thomas M. Gass, who preceded her in death.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include: two sons, Leonard Ray Gass and David Wayne Gass, both of Marion, Kan.; five daughters, Elsie Ruth Maples, Stover, Kathy June Pitts, Cheyenne, Wyo., Linda Gay Barr, Marion, Kan., Doris Jean Johnson, Casa Grande, Ariz., and Aundra Faye Presley, Sevierville, Tenn.; two brothers, William D. Ramsey, Stover, and Archie Andrew Ramsey, West Plains; one sister, Louise Long, Knoxville; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

One son, Donald Glen Gass, preceded her in death.

Services will be Wednesday at Holly Hills Memorial Park Funeral Home South, Knoxville. Burial will be in Highland Holly Hills Memorial Park Cemetery.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles.

LINNENBRINK

Elizabeth Ann Linnenbrink, 96, Linn, died April 21, 2001, at Oak View Living Center.

She was born July 4, 1904, in Linn, a daughter of Casper and Christina Brandt Adelhardt. She was married Jan. 29, 1929, in Linn, to Joseph J. Linnenbrink, who died March 5, 1959.

She was employed by Linn Manufacturing in the cafeteria as a cook until her retirement. She also was a homemaker.

She was a member of St.. George Church, Linn, St. Ann Sodality and Western Catholic Union.

Survivors include: three daughters, Esther C. Jaegers and Wilma C. Grothoff, both of  Jefferson City, and Mary Lou Thoenen, Linn; 20 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

One granddaughter, one great-granddaughter and one great-great-grandson preceded her in death.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. George Church. The Rev. Paul Hartley will officiate. Burial will be in St. George Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Morton Funeral Home, Linn, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to St. George Church.

ROSE

Services were April 17 at First Lutheran Church, Lucerne, Calif., for Ruby Rose, 55, Lakeport, Calif., formerly of  Jefferson City, who died April 9, 2001.

She was born March 7, 1946, in  Jefferson City, a daughter of Edwin and Alma Goldammer. She was married July 29, 1972, to the Rev. David Rose, who survives at the home.

She attended  Jefferson City High School and graduated from Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing, St. Louis, in 1967. She received her bachelor of nursing degree from St. Louis University. She worked as a nurse.

An instructor in the Licensed Vocational Nursing program of the Ukiah Adult School, she had been the director of the program since 1988.

Other survivors include: one son, Christopher Rose; one daughter, Rachel Rose; one brother, Leonard Goldammer, Kansas City; and five sisters, Mildred Ehrhardt,  Jefferson City, Dorothy Lueders, Marshalltown, Iowa, Adell Bolen, Hazelwood, Darlene Davis, Norfolk, Neb., and Gladys Graesser, Katy, Texas .

PLATTER

Services were Saturday at Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home for Donnie E. Platter, 86, Camdenton, who died April 19, 2001, at Ozark Care Center, Osage Beach.

She was born Feb. 10, 1915, in Camden County, a daughter of Charles W. and Hattie Shivers Morris. She was married May 14, 1935, to Albert Platter.

She was a homemaker. A Christian, she followed the Baptist faith.

Survivors include: two sons, Kenneth Dale Platter, Bedias, Texas , and John Edward Platter, Camdenton; one daughter, Mary Frances Hunter, Holden; two half-brothers, Willard Morris, Montreal, and Charles Morris, Roach; three half-sisters, Grace Terry, Estelle Galloway and Elizabeth Nicks, all of Camdenton; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Burial was in Conway Cemetery, Osage Beach. The Rev. Dennis North officiated.

Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.

COTTEN

Mary Katherine Cotten, 43, Centertown, died April 22, 2001, in Centertown.

She was born Dec. 28, 1957, in Knox County, a daughter of Homer R. and Wilma Hart Walker. Her mother survives in  Jefferson City. She was married Oct. 5, 1973, in Edina, to Junior Cotten, who survives at the home.

A homemaker, she lived in Edina and later moved to  Jefferson City. She worked for the  Jefferson City School District, Scholastic and Central Trust Bank.

She was a member of the Lebanon Baptist Church, McGirk.

Other survivors include: one son, Tim Cotten, Santee, Calif.; two daughters, Dawn Cole, Denver, and Brandy Cotten, Centertown; one sister; five brothers; and one granddaughter.

Services will be at 11 a.m.. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. The Rev. Frank Whitney will officiate.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Saturday.

Memorials are suggested to Lebanon Baptist Church.

GROSVENOR

Floyd Wayne Grosvenor, 72, St. Elizabeth, died April 22, 2001, at St. Marys Health Center.

He was born July 29, 1928, near St. Elizabeth, a son of William A. "Willie" and Elsie Cora Bailey Grosvenor. His mother survives in Tuscumbia.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He attended White School near St. Anthony and Iberia High School. He worked as a chef for several restaurants and as a registered dietitian for Beverly Enterprises and St. Elizabeth Care Center. Before retirement, he worked as a chef for former Gov. John Ashcroft.

Survivors include: two daughters, Gwen McGeorge,  Jefferson City, Tina Barnes,  Jefferson City; one sister, Shirley Miller, St. Elizabeth; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia. The Rev. Gene Edwards will officiate. Burial will be in Jarrett Cemetery near Iberia.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials are suggested to the Crocker Memorial VFW Post 4956 or the  Jefferson City Animal Shelter.
