WATT
Clara L. Watt, 91, Jefferson City, died May 2, 2001, at Capital Region Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 6, 1908, in Jefferson City, a daughter of Lee and Clara Booker Burnett McClure. She was married March 25, 1928, in Osage City, to C.A. "Buck" Watt, who died Oct. 31, 1991.
A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, she was a 1926 graduate of Jefferson City High School. She worked at Lee's Shoe Store and the Booterie. She worked for many years in the sales tax division of the Missouri Department of Revenue. She also worked as the bookkeeper for Czarlinsky's Clothing Store.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: one son, C.A. "Bus" Watt, Jefferson City; one granddaughter; and three great-grandchildren.
One son, Dale G. Watt, preceded her in death.
Graveside services and entombment will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the mausoleum of Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Wendell Stoneburner will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to the Jefferson City Jay Football Foundation.
Arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
DEATHERAGE
Blanche N. Deatherage, 83, Jefferson City, died May 3, 2001, at Capital Region Medical Center.
She was born July 28, 1917, in Jamestown, a daughter of Charles A. and Elizabeth G. Gentez Wyss. She was married Oct. 28, 1941, in Jefferson City, to Wilbur C. Deatherage, who died March 30, 1971.
A life-long resident of the Central Missouri area, she graduated from Jamestown High School, Jamestown. She was employed as a bookkeeper with Quality Cleaners for over 30 years prior to her retirement in 1987.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: one son, Ronald W. Deatherage, Jefferson City; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Freeman Mortuary. The Rev. L. Kyle Hern and the Rev. Wendell Stoneburnger will officiate. Burial will be in Jamestown Cemetery, Jamestown.
Visitation will be from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Saturday.
Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church.
BERNSKOETTER
Hubert B. Bernskoetter, 93, Freeburg, died May 2, 2001, at St. Marys Health Center.
He was born July 16, 1907, in Taos, a son of Henry H. and Emma Pycke Bernskoetter. He was married Oct. 5, 1932, in Folk, to Catherine Rademacher, who died May 24, 1981.
A life-long resident of the Central Missouri area, he attended school in Taos and had lived in Jefferson City. He was a farmer and a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg.
Survivors include: four daughters, Lorraine Eveler Bruemmer and Barbara L. Robinson, both of Jefferson City, Dorothy Foster, Fulton, and Charlene Kixmiller, Linn; one son, Richard J. Bernskoetter, California; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Church. The Rev. Gregory Higley will officiate. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. today at Freeman Mortuary with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the Holy Family Church, Freeburg, Mo., the Carmelite Monastery or the Immaculate Conception Church Building Fund.
MITCHELL
Jack B. Mitchell, 63, Linn Creek, died April 30, 2001, at the University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics.
He was born Oct. 9, 1937, in Geneva, Ill. He was married in 1982 to Evelyn Kay Kenyon, who survives at the home.
He was a Navy veteran. He was a commercial printer.
Other survivors include: one son, Daniel H. Mitchell, St. Charles, Ill.; two stepsons, David Gauger, Fox Lake, Ill., and Robert J. Chalker, Charleston, S.C.; and one stepdaughter, Wendy Gauger, New Orleans.
A family gathering will be from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at their home.
Memorials are suggested to the Dogwood Animal Shelter, Camdenton.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Hedges Funeral Home, Camdenton.
DUNLAP
Vena Marie Dunlap, 89, Fulton, died May 3, 2001, at Fulton Manor Care Center.
She was born Sept. 6, 1911, in Shelby County, a daughter of Leason and Sarah Nancy Stohr Dicks. She was married Dec. 24, 1963, in Fulton, to Richard Dunlap, who died in 1975.
She had been a house mother for Missouri School for the Deaf and was a member of Southside Baptist Church, Fulton.
Survivors include: one daughter, Evelyn Howitt, Lubbock, Texas ; two sisters, Catherine Hostetter and Fredia Saxe, both of Fulton; one brother, Nolan Dicks, Farmington, Ill.; four grandchildren and; four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Debo Funeral Home, Fulton. Bruce Williamson will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Clarence.
Visitation will be from noon-1 p.m. Saturday.
ELLIS
Services were April 27 for Harland F. Ellis, 63, Dixon, who died April 19, 2001, in Lebanon.
He was born Aug. 1, 1937, in Meta, a son of Theron and Lillian Juergens Ellis. He was married July 29, 1961, to Freddie Emmett, who survives at the home.
He was a 1955 graduate of Vienna High School and a 1960 graduate of the University of Missouri-Rolla School of Mines. A registered professional engineer, he worked as a mechanical engineer for the Corps of Engineers until his retirement in 1989.
He was a member of Wheeler Congregational Christian Church and chairman of the Dixon Centennial Celebration in 1969. He played and sang in his own country music band, recording an album, "Songs Ole Harland Sang," in 1972.
Other survivors include: one son, Dirk Ellis, Dixon; one daughter, Cathy Lee, Hendersonville, Tenn.; two sisters, Louise French, Brinktown, and Norma Dake, Vienna; and five grandchildren.
Services were held at First Baptist Church of Dixon. Jerry Dooley officiated.
Memorials are suggested to Crismon Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of James & Gahr Mortuary, Rolla.
LEUTHEN
Charles Joseph Leuthen, 60, Jefferson City, died May 2, 2001, at his home.
He was born March 19, 1941, in Argyle, a son of Henry G. and Mathilda Mary "Tillie" Schulte Leuthen. His mother survives at Meta. He was married June 1, 1968, in Freeburg, to Eileen Angela Holterman, who survives at the home.
He worked for the state of Missouri for 32 years, with the Division of Employment Security, Division of Welfare, Office of Administration and the State Printing Center, retiring in 2000. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Jefferson City, the Holy Name Society and VFW Post 8045, Argyle. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Other survivors include: one son, Aaron Leuthen, Jefferson City; and one daughter, Angela Leuthen, Springfield.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Argyle. The Rev. Tim Tatro and the Rev. Mike Murphy will officiate. Burial will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., and from 8-9:30 a.m. Saturday at Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna.
Memorials are suggested to Masses or the VFW Post 8045, Argyle.
MORTON
Services were today for Gaylord Nelson Morton, 71, Hallsville, who died May 2, 2001, at his home.
He was born April 23, 1930, in Boone County, a son of Lawrence E. and Annie Belle Hudson Morton. He was married Aug. 27, 1950, in Columbia, to Bonnie Tharp, who survives at the home.
He was a truck driver for MFA Oil, Columbia, and had been a police officer for the Columbia Police Department. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, Columbia.
Other survivors include: one son, Perry Morton, Hallsville; one daughter, Vicki Pauley, Columbia; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
One son, Timothy Morton, preceded him in death.
Services were at Robinson Funeral Home, Ashland. The Rev. Jim Smith officiated. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Hartsburg.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association Columbia Chapter.
NICHOLS
Alice Marie Nichols, 85, Columbia, died May 4, 2001, at The Williamsburg, Columbia.
She was born June 25, 1915, in Caruthersville, a daughter of George H. and Shirley Howell Roullett. She was married Dec. 25, 1939, in Boone County, to George J. Nichols, who preceded her in death.
She was a beautician at Nichols Beauty Salon, her home-based business, until her retirement.
She was a member of Wilkes Boulevard United Methodist Church, Columbia.
Survivors include: one daughter, Shirley Frances Glaser, Holts Summit; one brother, Lloyd Roullett, Ashland; one sister, Francis Stidham, Columbia; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
One daughter, Joann Schulte, preceded her in death.
Private graveside services will be Saturday in Memorial Park Cemetery.
