STEINLE

Services were today for Edwin D. Steinle, 83, Hillsboro, Kan., who died May 11, 2001, in Hillsboro.

He was born Jan. 4, 1918, in Lehigh, Kan., a son of Jacob J. and Lydia Ruff Steinle. He was married June 30, 1974, in Nortonville, Kan., to Dorothy Moeck, who survives in Hillsboro.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Hillsboro. He painted aircraft for Boeing in Wichita, Kan.

Other survivors include: one son, Gary Steinle, Wichita; two stepsons, Donald Hobratschk, Somerset, N.J., and John Hobratschk,  Jefferson City; one daughter, Barbara Goodale, Blue Springs; one stepdaughter, Berneal Flach, Santa Clara, Calif.; one brother, Marlin Steinle, Lehigh; one sister, Gloria Wolf, Wichita; four grandchildren; four step grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.

One son, Calvin Steinle, died in 1988.

Services were at Zion Lutheran Church. The Rev. John A. Ryding officiated. Burial was in Lehigh Township Cemetery, near Lehigh.

Memorials are suggested to Zion Lutheran Church or The Lutheran Hour.

BURRIS

Lawyer W. Burris, 86, Versailles, died May 13, 2001, at Golden Age Living Center, Stover.

He was born Sept. 27, 1914, in Glensted, a son of the Rev. Shelby and Josie Letchworth Burris. He was married Feb. 10, 1942, to Lois Tutt, who survives at the home.

He was an Army veteran of World War II. He worked 34 years at Kansas City Bifocal Company in Versailles. He was a member of Second Baptist Church in Versailles and of V.F.W. Post 5902 in Gravois Mills.

She is survived by nieces and nephews including: Nancy Burris, Sharon Buckingham, Brenda Wheeler, Harland Ross and Robert Ross, all of Versailles; and Pamela Ferguson,  Jefferson City.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles. The Rev. Robert Ross will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Versailles Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday.

DOUGLASS

David A. Douglass, 68,  Jefferson City, died May 13, 2001, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility.

He was born May 4, 1933, in Joplin, a son of Paul W. and Elsie A. Vetter Douglass.

A 1951 graduate of St. Peter High School, he was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church.

Survivors include one brother, Paul R. Douglass,  Jefferson City, and one sister, Norma Jean Kidwell, Oceanside, Calif.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter Catholic Church. The Rev. Joseph Corel will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 6 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Oncology Department at St. Marys Health Center or Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility.

LOGAN

Josie Beatrice Logan, 76,  Jefferson City, died May 13, 2001, at Capital Region Medical Center.

She was born Oct. 11, 1924, in the state of Tennessee, a daughter of James and Pearl Seal Chism. She was married July 1, 1944, in  Jefferson City, to Herbert Calvin Logan, who survives at the home.

A graduate of Lincoln High School, East St. Louis, Ill., and Lincoln University, she was employed as a teacher in the  Jefferson City public school system for 39 years. She taught in the Head Start Program and at Washington Elementary School, East School and Cedar Hill School.

She was a member of Second Baptist Church; Delta Sigma Theta Sorority; Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Sorority, Tau chapter; and the Retired Teachers Association. She also worked with Meals on Wheels.

Other survivors include one sister, Willa Scott Burton, East St. Louis.

One daughter preceded her in death

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Second Baptist Church. The Rev. Cornell Sudduth will officiate. Burial will be in Longview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.

ROTHER

Cora Alice Rother, 93, Laurie, died May 13, 2001, at her home.

She was born Oct. 3, 1907, in Belleville, Ill., a daughter of Frank and Alice Ann Cook Danbury. She was married April 18, 1936, to Harry Rother, who died in September 1959.

She was a retired seamstress for the Lady Garment Maker's Union in St. Louis. A member of Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church in Laurie, she volunteered for O.A.T.S.

Survivors include: one son, Harry Rother, Gravois Mills; one sister, Dorothy Eck, O'Fallon, Ill.; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Laurie. The Rev. James Lawley will officiate. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Lake Charles Memorial Park, St. Louis.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

BIRKHEAD

Janet S. Birkhead, 91, Camdenton, died May 7, 2001, at Good Shepherd Care Center, Versailles.

She was born Aug. 30, 1909, in Owosso, Mich., a daughter of Albert E. and Minnie B. Kemp Smiley.

She was an executive secretary in insurance in Kansas City for 30 years. She was a member of Kent Memorial Lutheran Church, Sunrise Beach.

She is survived by three great nieces.

One stepdaughter, Maurine Curd, preceded her in death.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kent Memorial Lutheran Church. Pastor Eugene Moll will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date in Grayson Cemetery, near Grayson.

Memorials are suggested to Kent Memorial Lutheran Church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Laurie.

BROWN

Eva Brown, 95, Camdenton, died May 13, 2001, at Windsor Estate Convalescent Center, Camdenton.

She was born Nov. 4, 1905, in Camden County, a daughter of John and Hattie Webster. She was married Aug. 10, 1924, to Murl Brown, who died Oct. 8, 1981.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Dale Blair Cemetery, Camdenton.

Visitation will be from noon-1 p.m. Wednesday at Hedges Funeral Home, Camdenton.

LUEBBERING

Hedwig G. "Haddie" Luebbering, 89, St. Thomas, died May 14, 2001, at her home.

She was born May 20, 1911, in St. Thomas, a daughter of John and Agnes Wan-kum Suthoff. She was married Sept. 14, 1932, in St. Thomas, to Lawrence B. Luebbering, who died Aug. 17, 1986.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, St. Thomas, the Ladies Sodality and the Quilting Group.

She was a member of St. Thomas Senior Citizens.

Survivors include: six sons, Norbert Luebbering, Richard Luebbering, Larry Luebbering and Al Luebbering, all of  Jefferson City, Bernard Luebbering, Sunrise Beach, and Andrew Luebbering, St. Thomas; six daughters, Lorraine Luebbering, St. Thomas, Mary Ann Reinhardt,  Jefferson City, Agnes Scott and Alice Wolters, both of Holts Summit, Flora Stafford, Tebbetts, and Rose Mertens, Wardsville; three brothers, Leo Suthoff, St. Louis, Joseph Suthoff, St. Charles, and Andrew Suthoff, St. Thomas; 50 grandchildren; and 76 great-grandchildren.

Five grandchildren preceded her in death.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. The Rev. Donald J. Antweiler will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. Wednesday at St. Thomas Knights of Columbus Hall, with a senior citizens rosary at 4 p.m. and a prayer service at 8:15 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to St. Thomas Parish School.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rekus Funeral Home, Meta.

SCHMIDT

Emil Schmidt, 87, Eugene, died May 14, 2001, in  Jefferson City.

He was born Oct. 2, 1913, in Henley, a son of Joseph and Christina Gerling Schmidt. He was married Jan. 12, 1937, in St. Thomas, to Desda Rush, who died March 23, 1993.

A Navy veteran of World War II, he retired from the maintenance department in the Flint, Mich., public schools. He moved to Mary's Home after retiring. He was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Marys Home, and of the Marys Home Senior Citizens Group.

He is survived by one sister, Ida Luebbert, state of Kansas.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church. The Rev. Clarence Wiederholt will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. today at Phillips Funeral Home, Marys Home.

Memorials are suggested to Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church.

AYLOR

Graveside services for Marie N. Aylor, 77,  Jefferson City, who died April 2, 2001, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Riverview Cemetery.

The Rev. Stephen Krenz will officiate.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
