NORRIS

Cuba Norris, 91, Branson, died June 7, 2001, at Forsyth Care Center.

She was born May 5, 1910, in Blue Eye, a daughter of Martha Elizabeth Scott and Albert Arthuro Jones. She was married in 1928 to Clint Plympton of Hollister. She was married in 1952 to Dan Norris.

She was a 1927 graduate of Branson High School. She attended Gertrude's School of Cosmetology in Springfield and operated her own beauty shop in Stockton. She became a clerical office worker for General Motors Corp. in Michigan. She returned to Branson in 1944 after her divorce. She was instrumental in the development of Ozarks Playground Association and served as business manager/chief operator of Branson Consolidated Telephone Co. She operated Devil's Pool Guest Ranch with her husband and served as one of the principal stockholders in the Security Bank of Branson. She was a charter member of Branson Christian Church.

Survivors include: one son, Jack Plympton,  Jefferson City; two grandsons; and two great-granddaughters.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Whelchel Funeral Chapel, Branson. The Rev. Benny Boling will officiate. Burial will be in Ozarks Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be 7-8 p.m. Monday at Whelchel Funeral Chapel.

Memorials are suggested in her name to Branson Christian Church.

SHIPLEY

Beulah I. Shipley, 82, Eldon, died June 9, 2001, at Fayette Care Center, Fayette.

She was born Feb. 3, 1919, in Passover, a daughter of Eleven C. and Ada Bell (Byrd) DeGraffenreid. She was married Aug. 17, 1938, to Glenn Jeffries, who died May 13, 1971. She was married July 23, 1976, to Orville Shipley, who survives at the home.

She was a factory worker for Cargill Products, California, and she attended Assembly of God Church, Eldon.

Other survivors include: three sisters, Lois Robinette and Ila Faye Miller, both of Eldon, and Lila Robinette, Berryville, Ark.; three brothers, Olin and John DeGraffenreid, both of Eldon, and Stanley DeGraffenreid, Rolla; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Bernal James Jeffries and Burley Joe Jeffries, and two step-children, Maxine Rogers and Roy Gene Shipley.

Graveside services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at New Hope Cemetery, Kaiser.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.

BESTGEN

Alice Zeller Bestgen, 74, Bunceton, died June 9, 2001, at her home.

She was born March 26, 1927, in Pilot Grove, a daughter of Leonard and Edna Twenter Zeller. She was married Oct. 14, 1946, in Pilot Grove, to Andrew Bestgen, who survives at the home.

A Tipton area resident for 52 years, she worked in the cafeteria at St. Andrew's Catholic School for eight years and as a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Post Office for 18 years. She was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Tipton, St. Andrew's Altar Society and the Rural Mail Carrier's Union.

Other survivors include: one son, Dale Bestgen, Warrensburg; two daughters, Debra Imhoff, Plattsmoth, Neb., and Kelly Dockins, Jackson, Tenn.; two brothers, Vernon Zeller, Boonville, and Leonard Zeller, Lawrence, Kan.; one sister, Delores Birch, Tucson, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church. Fr. Henry Reichert will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Meisenheimer-Griswold Funeral Home, Tipton, with a rosary at 3 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Alice Bestgen Scholarship Fund at St. Andrew's School.

ALLEN

Rodney David Allen, 54,  Jefferson City, died June 10, 2001, at his home.

He was born Jan. 20, 1947, in Chamois, a son of Henry C. and Bessie Elizabeth Closterman Allen. His parents survive in  Jefferson City.

A graduate of Linn High School, he attended Lincoln University. He was employed with Schulte's IGA and the Russellville Locker Plant. Following retirement, he worked as a meat cutter at Bob's Market. He was in the Missouri National Guard and was a member of the  Oklahoma Church of Christ, Chamois.

Other survivors include: two sons, Spencer Lee Allen and Casey Douglas Allen, both of  Jefferson City; two brothers, Norman Allen,  Jefferson City, and John Allen, Columbia; and two sisters, Joyce Johnson,  Jefferson City, and Linda Gruchala, Swansea, Ill.

Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home. The Rev. Eric Allen will officiate. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. at Deer Creek Cemetery, Chamois.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or a charity of the donor's choice.

DURHAM

John Joseph Durham, 77,  Jefferson City, died June 10, 2001, at his home.

He was born Oct. 3, 1923, in Centertown, a son of Lawrence E. and Hattie Mae Eckenberger. He was married June 21, 1942, in  Jefferson City, to Martha Jane Beck, who died July 25, 1999.

A 1942 graduate of  Jefferson City High School, he owned and operated Johnny's Sinclair Service from 1954 until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Optimist Club.

Survivors include: one son, James L. Durham, St. Louis; one daughter, Jennifer Durham,  Jefferson City; and two grandsons.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Dr. Doyle Sager and the Rev. Thomas Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church or the Missouri River Hospice.

GAMPHOR

Services were held at 1 p.m. today for Clifford Raleigh Gamphor, 69, Grandview, who died June 8, 2001, at his home.

He was born June 26, 1931, in Miller County, a son of Victor C. and Iola Marion Bass Gamphor.

He graduated from Eldon High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army and received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He retired from Missouri Pacific Railroad, where he worked as a trainman.

Survivors include: two daughters, Marla Kay Dukes and Sherry Gamphor; four sons, Randy Gamphor, Steve Gamphor, Denny Gamphor and Danny Gamphor; and three grandchildren.

Services were under the direction of Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.

KUSGEN

Clarence Albert Kusgen, 77, California, died June 9, 2001, at his home.

He was born May 27, 1924, in California, a son of Albert and Hulda Bleich Kusgen.

He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, California. He was a farmer, and he owned and operated the cab service in California for several years.

Survivors include: two daughters, Glenda Crane, Russellville, and Vicki Bax,  Jefferson City; two sons, Glen and Dennis Kusgen, both of California; one brother, Herbert Kusgen, Blackwater; three sisters, Marie Hegg, Tipton, and Louise Weaver and Esther Denbo, both of California; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Weber and Sons Chapel, California, with the Rev. Gary Schulte officiating. Burial will be in the Salem United Church of Christ Cemetery.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

SUMMERS

Roselyn W. Summers, 90, Port Charlotte, Fla., died June 8, 2001, at St. Joseph Hospital, Port Charlotte, Fla.

She was born Jan. 30, 1911, in Metaline Falls, Wash., a daughter of John W. Wood and Zetta Smith Wood. She was married July 5, 1928, in Steelville, to James A. Denton, who died in 1932. She was married June 15, 1936, in Waterloo, Ill., to Edward D. Summers, who died April 19, 1989.

She was a graduate of Jones Commercial College, St. Louis.

A homemaker, she was employed as a secretary with Home Owner's Loan Company in St. Louis, from 1933-1936; and in the Perfecting Room of the Missouri State Legislature.

She was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral and a former officer of the Morning Music Club.

Survivors include: three daughters, Jane E. Meyer, Port Charlotte, Fla., Mary E. Williams, Lenox, Kathleen Monzie, Missoula, Mont.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

One son, Jack A. Denton, preceded her in death.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Cathedral. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association; the Helias Foundation; or St. Joseph Cathedral.

THOMPSON

Katheryn M. Thompson, 78,  Jefferson City, died June 9, 2001, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility.

She was born Sept. 6, 1922, in Osage County, a daughter of William Harrison and Pauline Brock Benedict. Her stepmother, Ruth Benedict Wilson, survives in Washington . She was married July 26, 1938, in  Jefferson City, to Leonard W. Thompson, who died Oct. 26, 1986.

A lifelong Central Missouri resident, she attended school in Osage County. She was a homemaker and member of First Presbyterian Church.

Other survivors include: two sons, Ivan Thompson, Washington , and Leonard Thompson, Kansas City; three daughters, Diane L. Tomkinson, Van Nuys, Calif.; Charmaine Wolken,  Jefferson City; and Toni Thompson Crawford, Teaneck, N.J.; one brother, Harrison Benedict Jr., Washington ; one sister, Jean Parmentier, Washington ; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Morton Funeral Home, Linn. The Rev. Marcie DeVier will officiate. Burial will be in Verdot Cemetery, Bonnots Mill.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility; Community Hospice of America, Columbia; or a charity of the donor's choice.
