CUNNINGHAM

Edward Brant Cunningham, 74,  Jefferson City, died June 17, 2001, at Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital, Columbia.

He was born Dec. 24, 1926, in Paris, Texas , a son of William B. and Murline Tubbs Cunningham. He was married Dec. 11, 1971, in Las Vegas, to Jeanne M. Mitchell, who survives at the home.

He was a graduate of Del Rio High School, Del Rio, Texas , and received a bachelor's degree in architectural construction from Texas A & M University in 1949.

A Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War, he owned and operated Cunningham Construction Company Incorporated, Albuquerque, N.M., for 25 years. He was employed with Mission Plan Incorporated in Texas , Arkansas and Missouri for seven years; American Prearranged Services for six years, where he served as vice president of sales; and Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home for four years.

He was a member of the American Legion, the VFW and the National Rifle Association. He was affiliated with the Baptist faith.

Other survivors include: one daughter, Tiffany N. Cunningham,  Jefferson City; two sons, Monte Cunningham, Las Cruces, N.M., and Ronny Cunningham, Albuquerque; three stepdaughters, Candy Candelaria, Bernalilio, N.M., Vickie Shurtleff, Albuquerque, and Susie Rhodes, Rio Rancho, N.M.; one stepson, Jack Rhodes, Dallas; one brother, Herman L. Cunningham, Milledgeville, Ga.; two granddaughters; four step grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home. Graveside services with full military honors will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Veterans Cemetery, Springfield.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials are suggested to Cancer Research Center, 3501 Berrywood Drive, Columbia, Mo. 65201-6570.

JONES

Wymer L. Jones, 89, Springboro, Ohio, died June 17, 2001, at his home.

He was born Aug. 7, 1910, in Waterproof, La., a son of Leonard and Lena Keller Jones. He was married June 23, 1934, in Eldon, to Beulah A. Hoff, who preceded him in death.

He was Navy veteran of World War II. He owned and operated Wymer Service Station, Eldon.

Survivors include: one son, Jerry Jones, Springboro; two sisters, Thelma Rhea Haynes and Olivia Lomax, both of state of  Louisiana; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Greenridge Baptist Church. Burial with military honors will be in Greenmore Memorial Gardens, Barnett.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.

LIBBERT

Nicky James Libbert, 23, St. Elizabeth, died June 18, 2001, at University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics.

He was born June 28, 1977, in Tuscumbia, a son of Randy and Debbie Ewers Libbert. His parents survive in Meta. He was married July 17, 1999, in St. Elizabeth, to Tanya Bax, who survives at the home.

He was a 1995 graduate of Fatima High School, Westphalia.

He and worked for Bee Seen Sign Company for six years.

He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, St. Elizabeth, and the St. Elizabeth Knights of Columbus.

Other survivors include: two brothers, Nathan Libbert and Brandon Libbert, both of Meta; maternal grandparents, John and Patsy Ewers, Iberia, and paternal grandparents, Wilfred and Rose Libbert, Meta.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. The Rev. John Degnan will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Thursday, at St. Elizabeth Community Center, with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rekus Funeral Home, St. Elizabeth

SCHAEFER

Joseph H. Schaefer, 80, Linn, died June 19, 2001, at St. Marys Health Center.

He was born March 16, 1921, in Osage County, a son of Reinhardt and Gertrude Vossen Schaefer. He was married May 8, 1944, in Linn, to Ida M. Ruettgers, who survives at the home.

A lifelong resident of Central Missouri, he attended Linn High School and was a Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was employed with Zevely Printing, Linn, for several years and Von Hoffman Press for 35 years before retiring in 1986.

He was a member of St. George Church, Linn, Knights of Columbus, Catholic Knights of America, Western Catholic Union, American Legion Post 5 and International Typographical Union. He was a charter member of the Osage County Historical Society and a founding member of The Schaefer Brother's Band. He delivered Meals on Wheels to the elderly in Osage County.

Other survivors include: four sons, Daniel J. Schaefer,  Jefferson City; Mark E. Schaefer, Linn; Greg C. Schaefer, New Bloomfield, and Roch R. Schaefer, St. Martins; three daughters, Mary E. Vogel, Kansas City; Monica G. Smith, Overland Park, Kan., and Rita Schaefer,  Jefferson City; one brother, Herbert Schaefer, Linn; one sister, Loretta Coffman, Wardsville; 18 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Services will be 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. George Church, Linn. The Rev. Brendan Doyle will officiate. Entombment will be in Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Morton Funeral Home, Linn, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. .

Memorials are suggested to St. George Church.

SMITH

George Charles Smith, 45, Stover, died June 16, 2001, at Texas University Medical Center, Galveston.

He was born June 6, 1956, in Kansas City, a son of George F. and Sarah Ellen Pryor Smith. He was married Feb. 20, 1981, in Kansas City, to Patricia J. Goss, who survives at the home.

He was a graduate of North Kansas City High Shool. He co-owned and co-operated Smitty's Ceramics.

He was a certified emergency medical technician, and worked for the American Red Cross.

He was employed as a nurse's aide at the Golden Age Living Center, Stover.

He was a member of the Stover Volunteer Fire Department, the Morgan County Civil Defense Team and the Stover United Methodist Church.

He helped establish the Stover First Responders and had served as director.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Angela Moriah Smith, Stover, and Mary Ellen Smith, of the home; and one son, Matthew Christian Smith, of the home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Stover United Methodist Church. The Rev. Diane Cutler will officiate. The remains were cremated.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Friday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the George Smith Memorial Fund or the Stover United Methodist Church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home, Stover.

KLUGE

Lawrence Kenneth "Lefty" Kluge, 68, New Bloomfield, died June 19, 2001, at St. Marys Health Center.

He was born Feb. 1, 1933, in Altamont, S.D., a son of Kornelius and Josephine Cullinan Kluge. He was married Aug. 20, 1958, in Valley City, N.D., to Dorothy Lindell, who survives at the home.

He served in the Army during the Korean War. He worked for Morrison Enterprises, Hastings, Neb., as a manager of cattle operations from 1963 to 1991. After retirement, he raised horses. He was a member of the National Western Club, Denver, American Quarter Horse Association, American Angus Association and the American Simmental Association.

Other survivors include: three daughters, Georgianne Huckfeldt,  Jefferson City; Kaylin Kluge, Texarkana, Texas ; LaDonna Knowlton, Longmont, Colo.; two sisters, Madelyn Rasmussen, state of Minnesota; Eleanor Hartwig, state of Illinois; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday.

Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.

NARFE

Chapter 0313 of the National Association of Federal Employees met June 12.

The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer led by A.C. Pearre.

Dr. George Enlow, who taught horticulture at Lincoln University, presented a video program on landscape design and the landscape design process.

The membership chairman was asked to contact NARFE to obtain the new recruiting tape; then contact Lincoln about using the tape on their public access channel. He also was asked to contact the local TV stations to provide coverage.

President Anderson invited State Federation President John Rowe to the Chapters annual picnic Sept. 11. The next meeting will be Aug. 14.

TAUBE

Gerhard B. Taube, 81, O'Fallon, died June 19, 2001, at St. Joseph Hospital West, Lake St. Louis.

He was born Jan. 1, 1920, in Taos, a son of Herman B. and Anna Taube. He was married to Leona Taube, who survives at the home.

An Air Corps veteran of World War II, he was an electrician for Sachs Electric for 20 years. He was a member of Knights of Columbus in Cahokia and was a Eucharistic minister.

Other survivors include: two sons, Kenneth P. Taube, Chicago, and Wayne D. Taube, St. Charles; one daughter, Doris Wooldridge, St. Charles; one sister, Christine Fuller,  Jefferson City; and one granddaughter.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Charles. Burial will be in St. Charles Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. today at Baue Funeral and Memorial Center, St. Charles.

Memorials are suggested to Masses or the American Diabetes Association.

WITTHAUS

Erwin H. Witthaus, 80,  Jefferson City, died June 18, 2001, at Capital Region Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 30, 1920, in Miami, Mo., a son of William T. and Eva Ferguson Witthaus. He was married April 2, 1944, to Aloyd Nichols, who survives at the home.

He worked for Danuser Machine Company in Fulton for 35 years as a welder, retiring in 1983. He served in the Merchant Marines and the Navy during World War II. He drove a school bus for South Callaway,  Jefferson City public schools and St. Martin's parochial schools. He also worked for Scholastic for seven years.

He was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, Holts Summit. He was a past master of Mokane Masonic Lodge 612. He was a member of Mokane Chapter Eastern Star 352, where he was a past patron. He was a member of Scottish Rite Valley of Columbia, Moolah Shrine in St. Louis, and was past district grand master for the 27th Masonic District of Missouri.

Other survivors include: one son, Rodney Witthaus, Houston, Texas ; one sister, Leonora Witthaus, St. Louis; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Maupin Funeral Home, Fulton. The Rev. Brad Schmidt will officiate. Burial will be in Steedman Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, with a Masonic service at 8 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to Mokane Masonic Lodge 612, c/o Maupin Funeral Home, 301 Douglas, Fulton, Mo. 65251.
