VERSLUES

Bradley James Verslues, 16, Taos, died Aug. 12, 2001, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Koeltztown.

He was born March 24, 1985, in  Jefferson City, a son of Dennis and Edith Lueckenhoff Verslues. His parents survive at the home.

He attended St. Francis Xavier Catholic School, Taos, and was entering his junior year at Blair Oaks High School. He worked for his parents in the family business at Verslues Construction.

He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.

Other survivors include: one brother, Frank Verslues, of the home; three sisters, Denise Lehmen, Wardsville, and Kim Verslues and Melissa Verslues, both of the home; paternal grandparents, James and Kay Verslues, Taos; maternal grandparents, Lawrence and Adele Lueckenhoff, Wardsville; and paternal great-grandmother and step great-grandfather, Virgie and Claud Reiter, New Bloomfield.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. The Rev. David J. Maher will officiate. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home, Taos, with a prayer service at 8 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to Our Parish Our Future, in care of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.

MARTIN

Marjorie June Martin, 81, Iberia, died Aug. 12, 2001, at Lake Regional Hospital, Osage Beach.

She was born June 27, 1920, in Hancock, a daughter of Clarence and Alice Hightree Law. She was married April 19, 1941, in Bowling Green, to Louis Alvis Martin, who survives at the home.

A homemaker, she taught school at Cross School, Iberia, and High Point School, Dixon. She was a member of Iberia Community Club, Iberia American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 105 and the Iberia Church of Christ.

Other survivors include: two sons, Gene Martin and Larry Martin, both of Iberia; three daughters, Sharon Wiles, Willow Springs, Brenda Thompson, Iberia, and Janet Robinson, Marshfield; two brothers, Harry Law, Vandalia, and Howard Law,  Louisiana; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia. Bernie Crum will officiate. Burial will be in Iberia Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to Iberia Cemetery.

LINK

Richard Link, 82, Crocker, died Aug. 11, 2001, at Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla.

He was born Nov. 29, 1918, near Roanoke, Va. He was married in March 1945, in Igloo, S.D., to Eunice LaPointe Uherka, who died Feb. 22, 1995.

He was an Army veteran of World War II. A civil service employee, he worked in water plant maintenance at Fort Leonard Wood for 22 years until his retirement in 1987.

He was a member of Crocker Christian Church.

Survivors include: one son, Bill Uherka, Crocker; one daughter, Phyllis Ecoffey, Wounded Knee, S.D.; 18 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Three daughters, Imogene Trueblood, Adelle RedDoor and Elsie Everett, preceded him in death.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Long Funeral Home, Crocker. Doug Jacobson and Rick Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Crocker Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, and from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials are suggested to Crocker Christian Church.

HERNDON

William R. "Butch" Herndon, 57, Linn, died Aug. 11, 2001, at his home.

He was born Nov. 9, 1943, in Chamois, a son of Wilbur F. and Lucille Callias Herndon.

A lifelong area resident, he attended school in rural Osage County. He was a member of  Oklahoma Church of Christ and worked with Osage Industries for five years.

Survivors include, one son, Omar Lee Herndon, one brother, two sisters and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at  Oklahoma Church of Christ. The Rev. Mark Gregor will officiate. Burial will be in  Oklahoma Church of Christ Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Morton Funeral Home, Linn.

Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.

BERENDZEN

Mary Josephine "Josie" Berendzen, 88,  Jefferson City, died Aug. 12, 2001, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility.

She was born Feb. 6, 1913, in Wainwright, a daughter of Perry J. and Susie Haynes Gillmore. She was married Sept. 21, 1940, at Marys Home, to Lambert Berendzen, who died July 2, 1991.

A lifelong resident of Central Missouri, she attended school in Wainwright.

Survivors include: two daughters, Janet Templeton, Brazito, and Mary Lois Slanker,  Jefferson City; one son, Gail Berendzen, Holts Summit; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Two grandchildren preceded her in death.

Private graveside services will be in our Lady of the Snows Cemetery, Marys Home.

Memorials are suggested to The Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Association.

Arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

MAERZ

Earle "Brownie" Maerz, 82, Fulton, died Aug. 13, 2001, at his home.

He was born Oct. 3, 1918, in Fulton, a son of Frank and Alwilda Brown Maerz. He was married Feb. 14, 1940, in Fulton, to Mary Jean Fisher, who survives at the home.

He owned and operated Maerz Jewelry for 32 years until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Fulton, where he was a deacon.

Other survivors include: one daughter, Janet Harrison, Fulton; two sons, Michael Maerz, Columbia, and Steven Maerz, Overland Park, Kan.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church.

Memorials are suggested to First Presbyterian Church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Debo Funeral Home, Fulton.

MIKEL

J.C. Mikel, 62, Holts Summit, died Aug. 12, 2001, at his home.

He was born May 15, 1939, in Wyaconda, a son of Gail and Janie Hall Mikel. He was married Nov. 25, 1988, in Paris, to Barbara Bowen, who survives at the home.

He graduated from Kirksville High School in 1957. He was a member of the Iron Workers Local 577 of Burlington, Iowa, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Kirksville Christian Church; the El Kadir Shriners Club; the California Country Club; and PGA Partner's Club.

Other survivors include: four children, Jerry G. Mikel, Paris, Chris Bounds, Brooklyn, Iowa, Darius Mikel, The Woodlands, Texas , and Dendria McLaughlin, Parker, Colo.; three stepchildren, Deborah Verslues, Holts Summit, Terri Zumalt, Ashland, and John Krigbaum, of the home; two brothers, Ron Mikel and Terry Mikel, both of Kirksville; five sisters, Donna Emmert and Sherry Ragsdale, both of Paris, Twila Allred, California, Gaylene Turner, Colorado, and Marla Goring, Kirksville; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church, Paris. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Paris.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or Hospice Care.

HACKMAN

Sister Albertine Hackman, CPPS, 83, Russellville, died Aug. 12, 2001, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility.

She was born Oct. 9, 1917, in  Jefferson City, to Henry and Josephine Gratz Hackman.

She was a Sister of the Most Precious Blood of O'Fallon for 64 years. Entering as a Postulant Sept. 12, 1934, she made her first profession of vows Aug. 10, 1937, and her final profession of vows Aug. 10, 1940.

A homemaker, she also served in food service and housekeeping. She was a housemother and taught elementary school at Sacred Heart School, Florissant. She also visited the sick and shut-ins at St. Michael's Parish, Russellville.

Survivors include: one brother, Lawrence Hackman, Glasgow; five sisters, Bernadine Sander, Moberly, Mary Lee Rovira, St. Louis, Rosemary Brucks, Glasgow, Clarine Webber, Berea, Ky., and Sister Clarita Hackman, MMS of Philadelphia.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 18 at St. Michael's Parish, and 10:30 a.m. Sept. 1 at Motherhouse Chapel, O'Fallon. Additional services will be held at a later date at St. Mary Parish, Glasgow.

She donated her body to the St. Louis University School of Medicine.

Memorials are suggested to Red Cloud Indian School, 100 Mission Dr., Pine Ridge, S.D., 57770, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
