APPLETON
Clyde Edward Appleton, 52, Kansas City, Kan., died Sept. 15, 2001, near Versailles.
He was born Jan. 10, 1949, in Kansas City, Kan., a son of Claude and Jarvis Uldene Polk Appleton. His mother, Uldene Spurlock, survives in Kansas City, Kan.
He was a truck driver.
Other survivors include: one brother, Loyd West, Versailles; and two sisters, Linda Appleton and Beactrice Conyger, both of Kansas City, Kan.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home, Versailles. Jim Randall will officiate. Burial will be in Versailles Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday.
ARMSTRONG
Marjorie I. Armstrong, 94, Gravois Mills, died Sept. 14, 2001, at her home.
She was born Sept. 15, 1906, in Stockton, Kan., a daughter of Dr. B.E. and Burnice Breeze Kelly. She was married Dec. 3, 1930, to Albert A. Armstrong, who died in 1980.
She was a member of the Country Club Congregational Church, and was active in the Boy Scouts and the Republican Women's Movement. She was a 1928 graduate of the University of Nebraska. She retired in 1967.
Survivors include: one son, Albert A. Armstrong Jr., Leawood, Kan.; one daughter, Jane Lanier, Gravois Mills; one brother, John B. Kelly, Hendersonville, N.C.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
One son, John Armstrong, and one daughter Ann Waterman, preceded her in death.
Private services will be at a later date at the Lake of the Ozarks.
Memorials are suggested to the Missouri River Hospice, 3210 Bluff Creek Drive, Columbia, Mo. 65201.
Arrangements are under the direction of Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles.
BORGMEYER
Paul L. Borgmeyer, 60, Jefferson City, died Sept. 17, 2001, at his home.
He was born May 25, 1941, in Jefferson City, a son of John and Alma Talken Borgmeyer. His mother survives in Taos. He was married in 1964, in Jefferson City, to Ruthie Hemmel. He was married in 1969, in Columbia, to Judie Tipton.
A graduate of Fatima High School, he was an operations manager and dispatcher for Churchill Truck Lines for 20 years. He also was a photo developer for Wal-Mart. He also served in the Army Reserves.
He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Taos, and had been an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous for the past four years. He also was a member of Teamsters Local 833.
Other survivors include: two sons, Matthew Borgmeyer, Jefferson City, and Kyle Holt, Liberty; two daughters, Shelley Renkemeyer, Jefferson City, and Kyndl McGehee, Marshfield; four brothers, Vincent Borgmeyer, Jefferson City, Louis Borgmeyer, St. Charles, Leonard Borgmeyer, Loose Creek, and Steven Borgmeyer, Taos; three sisters, Agnes Viet, New Bloomfield, Vera Borgmeyer, Nixa, and Marilyn McGehee, Springfield; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. The Rev. David Buescher will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home, Taos, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Xavier Catholic School or the Missouri River Hospice.
CARPENTER
Harold A. Carpenter, 84, Sunrise Beach, died Sept. 16, 2001, at Lake Regional Hospital, Osage Beach.
He was born Aug. 11, 1917, at Alston, a son of Luther M. and Harriett Richey Carpenter. He was married Nov. 6, 1955, in Sunrise Beach, to Jeanette "Jan" Grazda Rogers, who survives at the home.
He managed the Kansas City Auto Auction from 1936-1976 and owned three car lots in Kansas City. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of Kent Memorial Lutheran Church, Sunrise Beach. He was a member of Lake Valley Country Club, Camdenton; American Legion Zack Wheat Post 624, Sunrise Beach; Osage Community Elks Lodge 2705, Laurie; the Ivanhoe Masonic Lodge 446 A.F. & A.M., Kansas City; and the Scottish Rite, Kansas City.
Other survivors include: one son, John W. Carpenter, Bonner Springs, Kan.; one daughter, Tamara Jeanette Carpenter Brown, Gardner, Kan.; two brothers, Howard Carpenter, Laguna Woods, Calif., and Marvin Carpenter, Douglas, Wyo.; and one granddaughter.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kent Memorial Lutheran Church. Pastor Eugene A. Moll will officiate. Military honors will follow. Graveside and Masonic services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Floral Hills Cemetery, Kansas City.
Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Kent Memorial Lutheran Church, or to the Ararat Shrine Temple in Kansas City.

GRAFE
Betty A. Grafe, 83, Sunrise Beach, died Sept. 16, 2001, at Lake Regional Hospital, Osage Beach.
She was born Dec. 17, 1917, in Chicago Heights, Ill., a daughter of Floyd and Verna Pittman Reno. She was married July 12, 1933, to Orrie William Grafe, who died June 1, 1989.
A homemaker, she was a member of the Church of Christ in Camdenton.
Survivors include: two sons, Robert Grafe, Kansas City, Kan., and Jack Grafe, Gravois Mills; two daughters, Sylvia Walker and Betty Joe Smith, both of Pikeville, Tenn.; two brothers, Paul Wilson, Washburn, and Jean Wilson, Decatur, Neb.; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Laurie. The Rev. Randy Gray will officiate. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Maple Hill Cemetery, Kansas City, Kan.
Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Wednesday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home. Visitation will also be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Maple Hill Funeral Home, Kansas City, Kan.

KEMPER
Dorothy Irma Kemper, 82, Jefferson City, died Sept. 17, 2001, at her home.
She was born Aug. 20, 1919, in Jefferson City, a daughter of Harry G. and Helen Leona Raithel Doehla. She was married Oct. 18, 1941, in Jefferson City, to Harvey William Kemper, who survives at the home.
A graduate of St. Peter High School, she was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and the St. Ann's Sodality. A homemaker, she also had been employed at the Missouri Department of Revenue and Secretary of State's Office in the archives division.
Other survivors include: two sons, Harvey William Kemper Jr. and John Michael Kemper, both of Jefferson City; one daughter, Marilyn Sue Dayton, Jefferson City; three sisters, Madeline Thompson and Virginia Lutz, both of Jefferson City, and Betty Lou Nutter, Kirkwood; ten grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter Catholic Church. The Rev. Donald Lammers will officiate. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Resurrection Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Buescher Memorial Home, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to Masses or the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN).
RIDENHOUR
Walter E. Ridenhour, 79, Belle, died Sept. 16, 2001, at his home.
He was born Oct. 11, 1921, in Osage County, a son of Lloyd D. and Beulah Mae Griff Ridenhour. He was married Jan. 10, 1948, to Erlyne Tomlinson, who preceded him in death.
An Army veteran, he was a farmer and bulldozer operator. He was a member of the Teamsters and Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. He drove a truck for Beaufort Transfer Company for 20 years until his retirement in 1985. He drove a dump truck for Virgil Smith Quarries until 2000.
Other survivors include: two sons, Randall Ridenhour, Washington , and Rodell Ridenhour, Parkville; two daughters, Rachelle Meats, Oakwood, Ohio, and Renita Hillis, Pickerington, Ohio; one brother, Don Ridenhour, Belle; two sisters, Kathern Becklenberg, Vichy, and Dorothy Koenig, Belle; and 11 grandchildren.
One granddaughter preceded him in death.
The remains were cremated.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Belle. The Rev. John Faszholz and the Rev. Norman Bahlow will officiate. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery, Belle.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sassmann's Funeral Services, Belle.
ROWLES
Virginia Lee Rowles, 84, Marshall, died Sept. 15, 2001, at Fitzgibbon Hospital, Marshall.
She was born March 31, 1917, in Sedalia, a daughter of Roy E. and Maude Lee Rymer Tarr. She was married to Robert E. Paxton. She was married to John R. Rowles, who survives at the home.
A former Sedalia resident, she worked for Sedalia State Bank and Trust, and Wal-Mart in Sedalia. She graduated from Smith-Cotton High School and was a member of the Broadway Presbyterian Church, both in Sedalia.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Linda Pappert, Marshall; one sister, Frances George, Jefferson City; one brother, Paul Erickson, Sedalia; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 4:30 p.m. today at Covenant Presbyterian Church, Marshall. The Rev. Jeffrey London will officiate. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Crown Hill Cemetery, Sedalia.
Memorials are suggested to the DARE Program, c/o Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home, Marshall.

LOETHEN
Clarence Bernard Loethen, 83, Jefferson City, died Sept. 13, 2001, at Capital Regional Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 7, 1917, in Jefferson City, a son of Casper B. and Anna Mae Kempker Loethen. He was married Nov. 18, 1936, in Jefferson City, to Bernadine Theresa Arens, who survives at the home.
He attended schools in the St. Louis and Jefferson City areas. He was a member of St. Martin's Catholic Church where he was a eucharistic minister. He was a member of the 50+ Club, St. Martins.
A farmer and school bus driver, he owned and operated the C.B. Loethen Transfer and the Oakview Mobile Home Park. He played in bands that performed at area nursing homes.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Margaret Ann Nilges, Wellsville; seven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Martin's Catholic Church, St. Martins. The Rev. Ed Schmidt will officiate. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Resurrection Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Buescher Memorial Home with a prayer serivce at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or St. Martin's Catholic Church.
BROWN
Bessie Brown, Jefferson City, died Sept. 18, 2001, at Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center.
