UPTON

Gladys E. Upton, 83,  Jefferson City, died Dec. 13, 2001, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born May 28, 1918, in Osage County, a daughter of Louis A. and Mary Kuper Bonnot. She was married July 19, 1937, in Hillsboro, to James R. Brown, who died Sept. 16, 1964. She was married July 8, 1965, in  Jefferson City, to John F. Upton, who survives at the home.

A lifelong resident of the Central Missouri area, she attended  Jefferson City Public Schools. She was a bookbinder journeyman at Von Hoffmann Press, retiring in 1973. She later worked for Walz Book Bindery.

She was a member of the International Brotherhood of Bookbinders and the auxiliary of the VFW, Roy Sone Post 1003.

Survivors include: two daughters, Jane K. Bickel, Holts Summit, and Jo Ann Laux,  Jefferson City; four sons, Dr. Jerry W. Brown, Waynesville, Jack D. Brown, Joplin, Don A. Brown, Holts Summit, and William T. Brown, St. Louis; and five grandchildren.

One son, James R. Brown, died Nov. 28, 200l.

Graveside services will be at a later date in Cadet Creek Cemetery near Bonnots Mill.

Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

BISHOP

George Edward Bishop, 72, formerly of  Jefferson City, died Dec. 12, 2001, in Tallahassee, Fla.

He was married to Martha Hodgens, who survives in Tallahassee.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and retired from the Tallahassee Police Department in 1990 after 30 years of service. He worked for the Leon County Sheriff's office until 2000. He was a volunteer with the Comfort Program.

Other survivors include: three sons, George A. Bishop, Tallahassee, Charles Edward Bishop, Blairsville, Ga., and Phillip Lee Bishop, Virginia Beach, Va.; two daughters, Catherine Hodgens Bishop and Lucy Taylor Bishop, both of Tallahassee; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, Tallahassee.

Visitation will take place after the services at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church Organ Fund or the Comfort Program.

Arrangements are under the direction of Culley's Funeral Home, Tallahassee.

KELLY

Sylvester Junice "S.J." Kelly, 61, Fulton, died Dec. 12, 2001, at Callaway Community Hospital, Fulton.

He was born Dec. 6, 1940, in Fulton, a son of Sylvester Kelly Sr. and Elizabeth Ferguson Kelly.

He was married June 2, 1996, in Fulton, to Geraldine Pasley, who survives at the home.

He had worked for the water department in Evanston, Ill., installing water meters.

Other survivors include: one son, Junice Kelly, Los Angeles, Calif.; one daughter, Lynn Piggee, Fulton; one brother, Owen Kelly, Kansas City; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Debo Funeral Home, Fulton, with the Rev. Charles Jackson officiating. Burial will be in the Southside Cemetery, Fulton.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday.

BACON

Randall Bacon, 41, Dixon, died Dec. 15, 2001, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

He was born Dec. 17, 1959, in Waynesville, a son of James and Marjorie Atkins Bacon. His parents survive in Dixon. He was married Aug. 2, 1986, in Rolla, to Carla Stogsdill, who survives.

He was an airplane mechanic for Dickman Aviation, Rolla, and the Goodrich Gas Company, Dixon, in service and maintenance.

Other survivors include: one son, Randall Bacon Jr., of the home; one stepson, Bryan Stogsdill, Rolla; one stepdaughter, Jenny Stogsdill, Rolla; two brothers, David Bacon and Steve Bacon, both of Dixon; and one granddaughter.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Dixon. Burial will be in Clifty Cemetery, near Dixon.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday and from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday.

Memorials are suggested to Clifty Cemetery Care Fund.

BAYSINGER

A memorial service was held Nov. 26 in  Oklahoma City for Ethel G. Baysinger, 95, who died Nov. 22, 2001, in  Oklahoma City.

A second memorial service will be held next Saturday, Dec. 22, at the Central Methodist Church, Kansas City.

She was born April 25, 1906, in Centerpoint, Ind., a daughter of the Rev. George Franklin Bundy and Ina B. Green Bundy.

She was married Dec. 31, 1936, in Kansas City, to Charles Earl Baysinger, who died in November 1985.

She graduated from Newburg, Ind., High School and, in 1936, from the University of Kansas City -- now the University of Missouri-Kansas City -- in that school's first graduating class.

In Kansas City, she studied and taught violin, and played in several string ensembles.

Survivors include: two daughters, Marty Gardner,  Jefferson City, and Kathie Altman, Stratford, Texas ; one son, Hugh Baysinger,  Oklahoma City; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the  Oklahoma Arts Institute, Frontier Hospice or Heritage Assisted Living, all in  Oklahoma City.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Hahn-Cook, Street & Draper Funeral Home,  Oklahoma City.

DALY

Elizabeth L. Daly, 84, Versailles, died Dec. 14, 2001, in  Jefferson City.

She was born May 9, 1917, in Carterville, a daughter of Christopher W. and Susan Anna Randall Lewis. She was married June 19, 1937, in Kansas City, Kan., to John R. "Jack" Daly, who died in August 1971.

She graduated from Carthage High School, Carthage, in 1935. She worked for McDonald-Douglass and as an administrative assistant for General Telephone until her retirement in 1973.

Survivors include: one nephew, Stephen D. Kappler, Lake Tapawingo; one niece, Susan K. Little, Eldon; and six great-nieces and nephews.

Services will be at noon Tuesday at Scared Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. James J. O'Sullivan will officiate.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

HARRISON

Elsie Jewell Harrison, 95, formerly of New Bloomfield, died Dec. 15, 2001, at Lenoir Health Care Center, Columbia.

She was born March 2, 1906, a daughter of Grover C. and Maggie May Lee Cole. She was married in 1923, in Bluffington, to Roy M. Tate. She was married Nov. 2, 1939, in Montgomery City, to Marvin L. Harrison, who died March 11, 1989.

She was a receptionist for several doctors. She was a member of the Dry Fork Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one son, Marvin L. Tate, Kansas City; one daughter, Delores T. Harrison, New Bloomfield; three grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

One great-grandchild preceded her in death.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Debo Funeral Home, Fulton. The Rev. Webster Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

OSTROWSKI

Louise H. Ostrowski, 92,  Jefferson City, died Dec. 14, 2001, at her home.

She was born Aug. 9, 1909, at Grafton, W. Va., a daughter of James and Icy Montgomery Holt.

She was married Sept. 22, 1939, at Oakland, Md., to Joseph S. Ostrowski Sr., who died in August 1979.

She graduated from high school in Grafton, W. Va., and attended West Virginia Wesleyan College.

She was a homemaker, who moved to  Jefferson City in 1998.

Survivors include: One daughter, June Masuda,  Jefferson City; one son, Joseph S. Ostrowski Jr., Carrollton, Ga.; and three grandchildren.

Graveside services and burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton Township, N.J.

Visitation will be from noon-1:30 p.m. Friday at the Hamilton-Brenna-Cellini Funeral Home, Mercerville, N.J.

Local arrangements are under the direction of the Freeman Mortuary.
