NEEL

Nelson Wayne Neel, 77, Sebring, Fla., died Jan. 15, 2002, at his home.

He was born March 9, 1924, in Randolph County, Ind., a son of Raymond W. and Ann Elizabeth Jarrett Neel. He was married Oct. 13, 1945, in Huntington, Ind., to Alice Jean Campbell, who survives at the home.

He was a 1942 graduate of Warren High School, Warren, Ind. He farmed in Indiana for 12 years before moving to the Neel Ranch near Lorida, Fla., in 1954. He moved in 1960 to Sebring, where he worked on and showed antique cars and tractors. He was a member of Highlands Lake Region Car Club.

Other survivors include: one son, Gary Neel, Sebring; two daughters, Annette Clark,  Jefferson City, and Jill Durden, Chatsworth, Ga.; one brother, Norval W. Neel, Sebring; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Morris Funeral Home, Sebring. Burial will be in Pinecrest Cemetery, Sebring.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday.

THOMAS

Helen M. Thomas, 88, Marshall, died Jan. 16, 2002, at Big Bend Retreat, Slater.

She was born May 30, 1913, in Moundville, a daughter of Charles and Ida Mae Fitzpatrick Folk. She was married Sept. 15, 1940, in Marshall, to George H. Thomas, who survives.

She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Women's Missionary Union. She taught Sunday school.

She worked at Fitzgibbon Hospital, Marshall Habitation Center and Mar-Saline Manor as a registered nurse. She was retired. She graduated from Nevada High School and the University of Missouri nursing school.

Other survivors include: one daughter, Janice Lorene Baker, Holts Summit; one brother, James F. Folk, Lemon Grove, Calif.; and one sister, Ruby E. Jones, Columbia.

One daughter, Barbara Kay Thomas, preceded her in death.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home, Marshall. The Rev. Wayne Doolin, N. Paul Callahan and the Rev. Vernon Maxted will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery, Marshall.

Visitation will be from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday.

Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church.

THOMAS

Services were Wednesday for Marjorie June Thomas, 73, Belle, who died Jan. 14, 2002, at Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla.

She was born Jan. 8, 1929, in Crystal City, a daughter of Elmer E. and Lola Ethel Thompson Carron. She was married May 15, 1948, in Bland, to John Lowell Thomas, who died Jan. 4, 1997.

She co-established the Thomas Oil Company, Heating Fuel, and Service Station and co-owned and co-operated it for 38 years. She also helped on the family farm and co-operated the school buses for the Belle School District for 14 years. She was a member of the Liberty Church of Christ, Belle.

Survivors include: two sons, Sam Thomas and Greg Thomas, both of Belle; three brothers, Bud Carron, St. Peters, Michael Carron, St. Charles, and David Carron, Pewee Valley, Ky.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

One son, Gary Thomas, preceded her in death.

Graveside services were in Liberty Cemetery, Belle. The Rev. Larry Morris and Rev. Randy Carr officiated.

Memorials are suggested to Liberty Church of Christ, P.O. Box 637, Belle, Mo. 65013.

Arrangements were under the direction of Jones Funeral Home, St. James.

UMBARGER

Marcella G. Umbarger, 93, Camdenton, died Jan. 16, 2002, at her home.

She was born Jan. 24, 1908, in Knox County, Tenn., a daughter of Arcemus N. and Sallie J. Davis Green. She was married Dec. 24, 1927, to Robert Berton Umbarger, who died March 20, 2001.

A homemaker, she lived in Florida after retiring. She lived in Camdenton for the last 22 years. She attended both the Methodist and the Nazarene churches in Camdenton.

Survivors include: one daughter, Natalie Dodd, Camdenton; one son, Richard Scott, Camdenton; one sister, Marie Sparks, state of Tennessee; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Camdenton. The Rev. Jeff Fletcher will officiate. Burial will be in Dale Blair Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Memorials are suggested to Lamb House or the Camdenton Church of the Nazarene Building Fund.

DUNCAN

Tony Duncan, 45, Iberia, died Jan. 17, 2002, at University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics.

He was born June 24, 1956, in Lee's Summit, a son of Wayne and Bernadine Long Duncan. His mother and stepfather, Bernadine and Milton Duncan, survive in Crocker. He was married March 1, 1975, in Crocker, to Paulette Baker, who survives at the home.

A 1974 graduate of Iberia High School, he worked for Iberia Lumber for 18 years and was presently employed by S.G. Duncan Construction in Osage Beach.

Other survivors include: one son, Jaeson Duncan, Iberia; one daughter, Mandy McKinnon, Brumley; two brothers, Tracy Duncan, Iberia, and Dion Duncan, Crocker; three sisters, Deborah Gustin, Camdenton, Tina Brown, Tuscumbia, and Bethany Duncan Woolery, Olathe, Kan.; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia. Ralph Byrd will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Iberia.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Saturday.

Memorials are suggested to the Tony Duncan Memorial Foundation.

BRANDT

Charlotte L. Martin Brandt, 54,  Jefferson City, died Jan. 15, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born May 13, 1947, in California, a daughter of Curtis J. and Melva D. Winebrenner Martin. Her mother survives in Eldon.

A lifelong resident of Central Missouri, she had lived in California and graduated from California High School. She worked at Chesebrough-Ponds, Inc. for 28 years, until her retirement in 1995.

She also is survived by one brother, Charles Martin, Eldon.

Services will be at noon Saturday at Elston Church in Elston. The Rev. Gary Amick will officiate. Graveside services and entombment will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Memorials are suggested to the Elston Church or the Callaway Hills Animal Shelter.

Arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

BERGEN

Theodore J. Bergen, 90,  Jefferson City, died Jan. 17, 2002, at his home.

He was born Jan. 25, 1911, in Inman, Kan., a son of Benjamin and Katherine Thiessen Bergen. He was married Oct. 11, 1936, in Balko, Okla., to Anna Wahl, who survives at the home.

He graduated from Ingles High School, Ingles, Kan. He was a farmer and rancher in Balko from 1935 to 1977. A resident of the  Jefferson City area since 1995, he was a member of the senior adult choir at the First Baptist Church. He was a member of the Koerner Heights Mennonite Church, Newton, Kan. He was a winter volunteer at Rio Grande Bible Institute, Edinburg, Texas , for 25 years.

Survivors include: two sons, Verlyn Bergen,  Jefferson City, and Floyd Bergen, Norman, Okla.; one brother, Joseph Bergen, Truth or Consequences, N.M.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church. The Rev. Doyle Sager will officiate. Graveside services will be Monday in Restlawn Garden of Memories Cemetery, Newton.

Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the Rio Grand Bible Institute, Edinburg, Texas .

Arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

COCHRAN

Amy Lynn Cochran, 18, Brumley, died Jan. 17, 2002, at University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics.

She was born Oct. 29, 1983, in Osage Beach, a daughter of Jim and Cynthia Shannon Pankey. Her father survives in Ulman and her mother survives in Holts Summit. She was married July 14, 2001, in Ulman, to Adam Cochran, who survives at the home.

She attended School of the Osage, Osage Beach, and was a member of Honey Springs Baptist Church near Brumley.

Other survivors include one sister, Melissa Pankey, Ulman, and paternal grandparents, Charles R. and Loretta Pankey, Iberia.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia. The Rev. Mark Kessler and the Rev. Rick Morrow will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Union Cemetery near Brumley.

Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday.

Memorials are suggested to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

MARRIOTT

Alice Devere Marriott, 90, Versailles, died Jan. 17, 2002, at Good Shepherd Care Center, Versailles.

She was born Jan. 9, 1912, in Morgan County, a daughter of Quincey and Mandy Bowers Marriott. She was married Oct. 16, 1929, to Christopher Leon Marriott, who died Jan. 11, 1981.

She retired from Primo Pants, Versailles. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Versailles, Versailles Senior Citizens and Oats.

Survivors include: two sons, Russell Marriott, Sedalia, and Chester Marriott, Philippine Islands; one daughter, Dixie Akin, Versailles; one brother, Clyde Marriott, Versailles; one sister, Janey Murphy, Panama City, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles. The Rev. Todd Forman will officiate. Burial will be in Versailles Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday.
