LANGE

Services were Monday for Edwin Charles Lange, 85, Belle, who died Jan. 19, 2002, at his home.

He was born Dec. 14, 1916, in Osage County, a son of Charles and Ida Bollman Lange. He was married May 16, 1942, to Alice Mittelhuaser, who survives.

He was a farmer and construction worker. He was a member of Koening United Methodist Church.

Other survivors include two sons, Glendon Lange, and Burke Lange, both of Belle, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services were at Koening United Methodist Church. Pastor Becky Schmidt officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Sassmann's Funeral Service, Belle.

LEWIS

Harry E. Lewis, 81, Fulton, died Jan. 20, 2002, at Callaway Community Hospital, Fulton.

He was born Dec. 16, 1920, in Auburn, N.Y., a son of E. H. and Dorothy Jane Elder Lewis.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He retired from Fulton State Hospital as a security aide.

Survivors include: five sons, Harry T. Lewis, Greig, N.Y., John P. Lewis, Beaverton, Ore., Patrick K. Lewis, and Robert B. Lewis, both of the state of California, and Shawn E. Lewis, Columbia; one brother, Bruce Lewis, Auburn, N.Y.; and 11 grandchildren.

One son, Michael S. Lewis, preceded him in death.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Debo Funeral Home, Fulton. The Rev. Lewis Curtis will officiate.

LEWIS

Services were today for James Nathan "Jim" Lewis, 84, Rolla, died Jan. 19, 2002, at his home.

He was born Oct. 26, 1917, in Phelps County, a son of John E. and Jessie Walker Lewis. He was married Oct. 16, 1937, to Mary E. Stough, who survives at the home.

He was owner and operator of Lewis Garage. An Army veteran, he was a member of Rolla Eagles Lodge and Rolla American Legion Post 270.

Other survivors include: four sons, Jimmie D. Lewis, Johnny N. Lewis, Kenneth A. Lewis, and David W. Lewis, all of Rolla; three daughters, Mary Francis Ousely and Pat A. Doyel, both of Rolla, and Debbie Muck,  Jefferson City; two brothers, Earl Lewis and Bobby Lewis, both of Rolla; six sisters, Dorothy Nix, St. Louis, Laura Gotthardt, Salem, Alice Jackson, state of  Oklahoma, Gladys Snelson and Crystal Christensen, both of Rolla, and Bessie Campbell, Wright City; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Two grandchildren preceded him in death.

Services were at Null and Son Funeral Home, Rolla. The Rev. Leroy Nixon officiated. Burial was in Ozark Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Phelps County Regional Hospice.

PARISH

Floie Rooffener Parish, 94, Camdenton, died Jan. 20, 2002, in Camdenton.

She was born Feb. 5, 1907, in Old Linn Creek, a daughter of John J. and Martha Lea Rogers Rooffener. She was married Dec. 23, 1929, in Old Linn Creek, to Hobart Parish, who died June 15, 1986.

She co-owned and co-operated Parish Supermarket in Camdenton for several years. She was a charter member of First Baptist Church, Camdenton.

Survivors include: one daughter, Billie Max Miller, Camdenton, five granddaughters and 10 great-grandchildren.

One son, Hobart "Gene" Parish, died June 11, 1992.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Camdenton First Baptist Church. The Rev. Harlen Ginn will officiate. Burial will be in Allee Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Camdenton.

RILEY

Jennie Margaret Riley, 94, Versailles, died Jan. 22, 2002, at Good Shepherd Care Center, Versailles.

She was born Sept. 22, 1907, in Newton, Iowa, a daughter of Grant and Blanche Sellman Wheatcraft. She was married March 30, 1942, in Prairie City, Iowa, to Kenneth W. Riley, who died March 8, 1990.

She was a teacher in Versailles from 1955 until her retirement in 1972.

Survivors include: two sons, James Riley, Versailles, and John Riley, Independence; one step son, Ronald Riley, Lewis, Iowa; two step daughters, Trudy Anderson and Nina Herrington, both of Safford, Ariz.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the West Union Baptist Church, south of Versailles. The Rev. Rod Campbell will officiate. Her body was donated to science.

Memorials are suggested to West Union Baptist Church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home, Versailles.

WELSCHMEYER

Frank A. Welschmeyer, 88, Freeburg, died Jan. 20, 2002, at Westphalia Retirement Center.

He was born April 27, 1913, in Freeburg, a son of Gerhard and Anna Pohl Welschmeyer. He was married Nov. 23, 1939, in Freeburg, to Elizabeth "Betty" Bexten, who survives at the home.

A crop farmer, he also raised Hereford cattle in the Gasconade River valley. He was Catholic.

He was a member of the Agricultural Stabilizing Conservation Services; the Freeburg M.F.A. Cooperative 280, where he also served on the board of directors; Osage County University of Missouri Extension Service; Knights of Columbus Council 9700; and the Western Catholic Union. He was a founding member of the Freeburg Fire Department and served on the Freeburg Special Road District.

Other survivors include: six sons, Richard Welschmeyer, Leroy Welschmeyer, Steve Welschmeyer and Bernard Welschmeyer, all of Freeburg, Jerome "Jerry" Welschmeyer, Dixon, and the Rev. Joe Welschmeyer, Fenton; five daughters, Louise Groner, St. Thomas, Mary Wiegers, Janice Plemmons and Sara Daniel, all of Freeburg, and Joyce Robinson, St. Charles; one brother, Martin Welschmeyer, Freeburg; two sisters, Josepha Pitzer Hausotter, Brooksville, Fla., and Marie Billet, St. Louis; 25 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

One daughter, Esther Klebba, and two grandsons preceded him in death.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg. The Rev. Joe Welschmeyer will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., and from 9-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna.

Memorials are suggested to the Holy Family Church Restoration Fund or Masses.

BECK

Cletus H. Beck, 83, Collinsville, Ill., formerly of  Jefferson City, died Jan. 19, 2002, at his home.

He was born Oct. 23, 1918, in  Jefferson City, a son of Otto and Josephine Aggers Beck. He was married to Bernice Beck, who died in 1986. He was later married to Carmen M. Omohundro Staden-Beck, who survives at the home.

He was a master electrician for General Motors until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of the St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Collinsville.

Survivors include: two sons, Walter Beck and Jeffrey Beck, both of Affton; one daughter, Sharon Cashin, Bowling Green, Ky.; one stepdaughter, Brenda Black, Collinsville; one sister, Agnes Reuther,  Jefferson City; four grandchildren, five step grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Fr. John Beveridge will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to St. Peter & Paul Building Fund or the Collinsville Humane Society.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Allan & Ciuferi Funeral Home, 314 West Main St., Collinsville, Ill. 62234.

BORDERS

Norma Helen Borders, 73,  Jefferson City, died Jan. 22, 2002, at her home.

She was born Feb. 22, 1928, in St. Louis, a daughter of Louis and Hilda Schneller Oberle. She was married Sept. 24, 1947, in St. Louis, to Kenneth H. Borders, who died Jan. 22, 1978.

She was a graduate of Cleveland High School in St. Louis. She worked for Missouri River Home Health and Hospice in  Jefferson City and previously worked for the Green Thumb Program.

Survivors include one daughter, Kathy Borders,  Jefferson City, and one grandson.

Services will be at noon Monday at Millard-Cantriel-Hoffmeister Eureka Chapel, Eureka. The Rev. Ray Freet will officiate. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in  Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Sunday.

Memorials are suggested to the Missouri River Home Health and Hospice of  Jefferson City.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Houser-Millard Funeral Directors,  Jefferson City.

HUGHES

Ethel Bernice Hughes, 80, Fulton, died Jan. 21, 2002, at Boone Hospital Center.

She was born Aug. 22, 1921, a daughter of William and Ninel Rader Tremaine. She was married June 17, 1940, in Fulton, to Elliott W. Hughes, who died June 3, 1994.

Survivors include: two sons, Larry Gene Hughes, Newark, Ohio, and Jerry Lee Hughes, Kirksville; four daughters, Patsy Klick, Betty Maddox, Lola Salmons and Carolyn Jackson, all of Fulton; one brother, Arthur Tremaine, and one sister, Rosie Antimi, both of Columbia; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Debo Funeral Home, Fulton. The Rev. Mike Haldeman will officiate. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today.

PERRY

Clarence G. Perry Jr., 83, St. Louis, died Jan. 18, 2002.

He was born Jan. 12, 1919, in Wichita, Kan., a son of Clarence Sr. and Fairfield Perry.

He was a 1940 graduate of Lincoln University and earned a doctorate from the University of Missouri. An Army Air Corps veteran, he worked for the United Nations and then taught French and English in Africa and Europe.

He returned to Lincoln University as an instructor in the languages department and history department. He also supervised the language laboratory. In 1959-1960 he taught English in Laos and Cambodia. He returned to Lincoln University and chaired the department of modern foreign languages and the department of English, foreign language and philosophy. He retired in 1988.

Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Williams, Hazelwood, and one granddaughter.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wade Twin Chapels, St. Louis.

Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association.
