ROLING
Harold Edward "Bub" Roling, 74, Jefferson City, died Jan. 19, 2002, at Capital Region Medical Center.
He was born April 20, 1927, in Jefferson City, a son of Emil H. and Aurelia Catherine Eveler Roling. He was married May 31, 1958, in Jefferson City, to Mary Catherine Bowen, who survives at the home.
He was a graduate of St. Peter High School. He was an electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1 in St. Louis for 40 years. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of the VFW and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Holy Name Society.
Survivors include: three sons, Tom Roling, Bob Roling, and Jim Roling, all of Jefferson City; three daughters, Sue Gipson and Linda Tucker, both of St. Louis, and Janet Roling, Jefferson City; four sisters, Mary Hood and Vivian Balkenbush, both of Jefferson City, Doris O'Roarke, St. Louis, and Peggy Puckett, Eugene; and 12 grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The Rev. Tim Tatro will officiate. Burial with military honors will in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors.
Memorials are suggested to the Samaritan Center.
SCHAFFER
Services were Jan. 14 for Anna J. Schaffer, 76, St. Ann, who died Jan. 9, 2002, in St. Louis.
She was born March 27, 1925, in St. Anthony, a daughter of George C. and Mary Volmert Ewers. She was married June 24, 1944, in St. Louis, to Victor Schaffer, who survives at the home.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Kevin's Catholic Church in St. Ann.
Survivors include: five daughters, Kathleen Vaughan, Dolly Hillis and Laverne Brown, all of St. Louis, Carolyn Weldon, St. Clair, and Elaine Ghirardi, Granite City, Ill.; six sons, Gary Schaffer, Ronald Schaffer, Gene Schaffer, Fritz Schaffer and Harold Schaffer, all of St. Louis, and Darren Schaffer, Granite City; seven sisters, Cecilia Baer and Sister Roseanne Ewers, both of St. Louis, Frieda Schaffer, Cary, N.C., Angela Schulte, St. Anthony, Sister Victoria Ewers, Manacapuru, Brazil, Cordula Hibdon, Marys Home, and Mary Struemph, Jefferson City; one brother, John Ewers, St. Anthony; 32 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Gerald James Schaffer.
Services were at St. Kevin's Catholic Church, St. Ann. Burial was in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

SCHRECK
Adela Gertrude Schreck, 96, Tipton, died Jan. 22, 2002, at Capital Region Medical Center.
She was born April 5, 1905, in McGirk, a daughter of George and Gertrude Schmidt Knipp. She was married Oct. 17, 1928, in Tipton, to Andrew George Schreck, who died in 1990.
She was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church and the Ladies' Altar Society in Tipton. She was a member and Past Regent of the Daughters of Isabella.
Survivors include: one son, Vincent Schreck, West Memphis, Ark.; two daughters, Mary Westermier, Sedalia, and Shirley Engelbart, Marion, Iowa; one sister, Louise Reibenspies, Tipton; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church. Fr. Henry Reichert will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Thursday, with a rosary at 3 p.m. and prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meisenheimer-Griswold Funeral Home, Tipton.
Memorials are suggested to St. Andrew's Catholic Church.
SPARKS
Margaret Sparks, 89, Eldon, died Jan. 22, 2002, at Lake Regional Hospital, Osage Beach.
She was born Aug. 27, 1912, in Kearney, a daughter of Adam C. and Nina Eldridge Freeman.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include: two daughters, Becky Bartlett, Barnett, and Sharon Wyse, Chillicothe; three sons, George Schoolfield, Excelsior Springs, Ronald Schoolfield, Kearney, and Terry Saia, Austin, Texas ; 20 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
One daughter, Nina Mills, and one son, Ervin Schoolfield, preceded her in death.
No services are planned. The body will be cremated

TANNER
Marian Esther Tanner, 94, Columbia, Ill., formerly of Jefferson City, died Jan. 23, 2002, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Belleville, Ill.
She was born Nov. 14, 1907, in Waterloo, Iowa, a daughter of Soren and Marie Dithmer Mortensen. She was married June 5, 1927, in Waterloo, to Harold Walther, who died Jan. 1, 1956. She was married Oct. 23, 1959, in Jefferson City, to Alvin Jacob Tanner, who died May 20, 1991.
She attended schools in Chicago. She was a homemaker and also worked as manager for the Conservation Employees Credit Union for more than 30 years until her retirement. She was a member of the Central United Church of Christ, Jefferson City. She was a member of the Still Hospital Guild and was a volunteer in the Still Hospital Gift Shop.
Survivors include one stepdaughter, Mary Louise Oglesby, Columbia, Ill., five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
One son, Harold "Hal" Albert Walther, died in 1964.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Buescher Memorial Home. The Rev. Stephen H. Buchholz will officiate. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Saturday.
Memorials are suggested to the Central United Church of Christ.

Charles C. Schwaller, 87, Jefferson City, died Jan. 22, 2002, at Capital Region Medical Center.

Charles E. Finn, 79, Holts Summit, died Jan. 21, 2002, at Callaway Community Hospital, Fulton.

IVEN
Jerome M. Iven, 66, Freeburg, died Jan. 22, 2002, at Capital Region Medical Center.
He was born June 24, 1935, in Linn, a son of Peter and Agnes Wegman Iven.
He was a truck driver and a Navy veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include: four sons, Stephen Iven, Westphalia, George Iven and Andrew Iven, both of Freeburg, and Randel Iven, Vienna; four daughters, Sheila Kliethermes, Westphalia, Wanda Reinkemeyer, Freeburg, Rebecca Libbert, Jefferson City, and Victoria Evans, Bamberg, Germany; two brothers, John Iven, Freeburg, and Leo Iven, Stanton; and one sister, Thelma Huether, Cooper Hill.
Services will be private. Burial will be in St. George Cemetery, Linn.
Memorials are suggested to Holy Family School.

HUBER
Edward R. "Ed" Huber, 68, Macks Creek, died Jan. 23, 2002, at his home.
He was born Oct. 5, 1933, in Macks Creek, a son of David A. and Cordia Ann Hunter Huber. He was married May 11, 1951, in Roach, to Audrey Hicks, who survives at the home.
He was a carpenter.
Survivors include: one son, Arthur Huber, Ironton; three daughters, Randa Jackson and Kim Snyder, both of Independence, and Debra Peterson, Stoutland; two brothers, George Huber, Kansas City, and Warren Huber, Willington; three sisters, Vera Galvan, Independence, Audrey Carroll, Nashville, Tenn., and Mary Ann Wendell, Frankfurt, Kan.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
One son, Randy Huber, and three grandchildren preceded him in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hedges Funeral Home, Macks Creek. The Rev. Steve Willis will officiate. Burial will be in Macks Creek Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday.
BROCKEL
The Rev. Kenneth Eugene Brockel, 65, Perry, died Jan. 23, 2002, at the Jeanne Jugan Center, Little Sisters of the Poor, Kansas City.
He was born Oct. 10, 1936, in St. Louis, a son of Frank and Lillian Damen Brockel.
He graduated from McBride High School in St. Louis and entered Conception Seminary in 1961. He was the first priest ordained at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Jefferson City in 1969.
From 1969-1970, he served as associate pastor at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Columbia, and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Hannibal.
From 1970-1971, he was Newman chaplain at Lincoln University. From 1970-1972, he was a religion instructor at Helias High School and was associate pastor at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Wardsville and St. Margaret of Antioch Catholic Church in Osage Bend.
From 1972-1973, he was associate pastor at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Boonville. In 1973, he served at St. Peter Catholic Church in Jefferson City.
From 1973-1977, he was pastor of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Chamois and Assumption Catholic Church in Morrison.
From 1977-1985, he was pastor at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pilot Grove. From 1985-1988, he was pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rich Fountain.
From 1988-2002, he was pastor of Saint William Catholic Church in Perry and at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Paris.
He served as a member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem since 1997.
He also was spiritual moderator of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women in 1981 and as dean of the Hannibal Deanery from 1996-1998.
He was an Army veteran.
Survivors include: two sisters, Blanch Wynne and Rose Mary Davidson, both of St. Louis; and one brother, Frank Brockel, Swansea, Ill.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph, Jefferson City. The Most Rev. John R. Gaydos will preside, with the Most Rev. Michael F. McAuliffe and other attending priests concelebrating.
Additional services will be at noon Saturday at St. William Catholic Church, Perry. The Most Rev. Michael F. McAuliffe will preside. Burial will be in St. Paul Historical Shrine, Center.
Visitation will be from noon-2 p.m. Friday at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph.
Additional visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at St. William Catholic Church in Perry, with a prayer service at 8 p.m.
