SHANKS
Leona Shanks, 92, Fort Dodge, Iowa, formerly of Jefferson City, died Feb. 9, 2002, at Villa Cottages Nursing Home, Fort Dodge.
She was born Sept. 18, 1909, in Jefferson City, a daughter of John and Hattie Melcher. She was married in 1928, in Jefferson City, to Dave Shanks, who died in November 1986.
She attended the Elston School in Elston. She was a homemaker and managed the family Pure Bred Livestock Operations until her retirement. She lived in Washington , and the state of Minnesota, moving to Fort Dodge in 1999. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include: one son, Robert Shanks, Fort Dodge; one sister, Helen Chapman, Jefferson City; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Riverview Cemetery. The Rev. Thomas W. Nelson will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Buescher Memorial Home.
OWENS
Edna Lorraine Owens, 83, Jefferson City, died Feb. 11, 2002, at Oak View Living Center.
She was born Feb. 25, 1918, in Russellville, a daughter of Charles L. and Nannie Elsie Russell Farris. She was married June 15, 1940, in Ashland, to John Lester Owens, who died Nov. 10, 1992.
She attended the Cole County schools in Russellville. She was a homemaker and worked for the Missouri State Department of Revenue for 30 years as an accountant until her retirement. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Buescher Memorial Home. The Rev. Mike Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.

BINKLEY
Vinnie L. Binkley, 101, Jefferson City, died Feb. 11, 2002, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility.
She was born Oct. 26, 1900, in Eugene, a daughter of W.R. and Idella Sherer Henley. She was married March 16, 1918, in Eugene, to Paul Binkley, who died July 19, 1958.
She was a lifelong resident of the Central Missouri area and attended Spring Garden School in Miller County. She worked as a cook for the Missouri Hotel, Jefferson City Public Schools, and the Rickman Conference Center until her retirement in 1982. She was a member of the Community Christian Church.
Survivors include: one son, Walter Binkley, Kansas City; one daughter, Virginia Bushie Holley, Jefferson City; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Spring Garden Cemetery near Eugene. The Rev. David Avery will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to Community Christian Church or the Spring Garden Cemetery Association.
Arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
BLAKEMAN
Wyman Udell Blakeman, 75, Jefferson City, died Feb. 10, 2002, at Capital Region Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 18, 1926, in Edgerton, Kan., a son of Golder and Mabel Rohe Blakeman. He was married June 27, 1976, in Williston, N.D., to Marilyn Carlson, who survives at the home.
He was a graduate of Gardner High School, Gardner, Kan. He retired as a lieutenant colonel from the Marine Corps, serving in World War II and the Korean and Vietman wars. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lohman.
Survivors include: one son, John Blakeman, Simi Valley, Calif.; one daughter, Jill Foss, Solvang, Calif.; one stepson, Kevin Kreisa, Cincinnati, Ohio; one brother, Carroll Blakeman, Ottawa, Kan.; two sisters, Ruby Coday, Osage City, Kan., and Lavone Mann, Des Moines, Iowa; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Carl Gauck will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association.
Arrangements are under the direction of Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home.
ALBERTSON
Leslie Earl "Les" Albertson, 86, Vienna, died Feb. 10, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center.
He was born Oct. 22, 1915, in Vienna, a son of Joseph F. and Myrtle "Tillie" Davis Albertson. He was married to Ethel Gaston Albertson, who preceded him in death. He was married Oct. 24, 1987, in Houston, Texas , to Louise James Wideman, who survives in Vienna.
He worked for Ford Motor Company, Wagner Electric and Sherwood Medical Industries, all in St. Louis. He moved back to Vienna in 1991. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Vienna and the Coffey Brothers American Legion Post 12, Vienna.
Other survivors include: two stepsons, Michael Wideman, Spring, Texas , and Jim Wideman, Austin, Texas ; two stepdaughters, Carol Jenkins, San Antonio, Texas and Kathy Baker, Katy, Texas ; two sisters, Marie Terry, Vienna and Melba Burchfield, New Port Richey, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church in Vienna.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.

CURTIT
Clara A. Curtit, 78, Linn, died Feb. 11, 2002, at Capital Region Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 2, 1923, in Linn, a daughter of John W. and Frona Lock Nilges. She was married Feb. 22, 1941, to Connie M. Curtit, who died Nov. 22, 1965.
She was a lifelong resident of Linn and attended Linn public schools. She was a homemaker and worked for the Linn R-2 Schools as a cook for several years. She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, Linn, and Order of the Eastern Star, Linn Chapter.
Survivors include: two sons, Jack Curtit and Jerry W. Curtit, both of Jefferson City; two daughters, Judy Kerns and Susan E. Jones, both of Jefferson City; one brother, Phillip Nilges, Linn; one sister Evelyn Thompson, Tyler, Texas ; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John's United Methodist Church. The Rev. Tony Townley will officiate. Burial will be in Linn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Morton Funeral Home.

FOSSETT
Edward Lee "Eddie" Fossett, 26, Camdenton, died Feb. 9, 2002.
He was born Feb. 15, 1975, in Kansas City, a son of George E. and Katherine Fossett. His mother survives in Macks Creek. He was married Feb. 11, 1992, to Nancy Christine Blackman, who survives at the home.
He was a stockman, musician and songwriter.
Survivors include: one son, Aaron Lee Fossett, of the home; two stepsons, William James Richey and Douglas Aaron Richey, both of the home; one stepdaughter, Rachel Christian Richey, of the home; five brothers, Kenneth Payne, Macks Creek, Floyd "Eddie" Fossett, Wayne Fossett, Danny Fossett and Mike Fossett, all of Kansas City, Kan.; one stepbrother, David Parks, Hemphill, Texas ; two sisters, Dania Henson, Eldon, and Mary Lou Roath, Kansas City, Kan.; and one stepsister, Sherry Parks, Hemphill, Texas .
One stepson, Joseph Allen "Joey" Richey, preceded him in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hedges Funeral Home, Camdenton. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Macks Creek.
Visitation will be from noon-2 p.m. Wednesday.

HALE
William "Gordon" Hale, 68, Rolla, formerly of Jefferson City, died Feb. 9, 2002.
He was born Aug. 14, 1933, in St. James, a son of Lindsay and Isabelle Grieg Hale. He was married to Ramona Hale, who survives at the home.
An Army veteran of the Korean War, he served 35 years as Missouri Highway Patrol officer. He began his career in Troop F and later transferred to Troop I in Rolla. He was a member of Salem Avenue Baptist Church and Oak Meadows Country Club, both in Rolla.
Other survivors include: two sons, Clark Hale Fuhlage, Columbia, and Ron Calvert, Santa Maria, Calif.; two daughters, Carrie Lynn Brazeau, Kansas City, and Kimberly Denise Hale, St. Louis; two brothers, Paul Hale, St. Louis, and Norman Hale, Washington ; two sisters, Louise Oliver, Madras, Ore., and Claire Mullen, St. Louis; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Salem Avenue Baptist Church. The Rev. Kevin Payne will officiate. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Paris.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at James & Gahr Mortuary, Rolla.
Memorials are suggested to the Missouri Association of State Troopers Relief Society.
KEHR
Julia Ann Bruto Kehr, 88, Merced, Calif., died Feb. 8, 2002.
She was born March 19, 1913, in Cole County, a daughter of George F. and Nora Lee Landrum Bruto. She was married Sept. 26, 1936, in Whittier, Calif, to Lionel Kehr, who died Feb. 27, 1995.
She attended schools in Missouri and worked for several years as a telephone switchboard operator in Jefferson City. She also worked in several family-owned businesses in Kansas, Missouri and Iowa. In 1950, she moved to Udall, Kan., and in 2001 she moved to Merced, Calif. She was a member of the Udall Methodist Church and was active in the Udall Seniors Club.
Survivors include: one daughter, Beverly Baker, Atwater, Calif.; one sister, Marjorie Sparks, Fulton; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
One great-granddaughter preceded her in death.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. The Rev. Fred Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Eldon Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Saturday.
Memorials are suggested to Udall First United Methodist Church and the Udall First Responders.
