PALMER

Melvina A. Palmer, 91, Eldon, died Feb. 22, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born Jan. 14, 1911, in Newcastle, Neb., a daughter of Tobias and Ida Carlson Peterson Anderson. She was married in 1932, in Howard, S.D., to Charles Bryan Palmer, who preceded her in death.

She was a Methodist. A homemaker, she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include: two daughters, Connie Erie, Lake Ozark, and Patricia Rye, Mena, Ark.; one sister, Lenore Nelson, Ponca, Neb.; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

One son, Ken Palmer, preceded her in death.

Services will be at a later date in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hedges Funeral Home, Osage Beach.

WILLIAMS

Flossie Harla Williams, 95, Vienna, Ill, died Feb. 22, 2002, at the Massac Memorial Hospital, Metropolis, Ill.

She was born Aug. 1, 1906, in Franklin County, Ill., a daughter of Harl and Clara Stanfield Cockrum. She was married Oct. 15, 1931, in Christopher, Ill., to Vern L. Williams, who died May 29, 1985.

She graduated from Christopher High School. She worked as a bookkeeper for a dairy operation in Christopher. She co-owned and operated the Economy Variety Store, Vienna, for 40 years.

She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, Vienna, and was a former member of Vienna First Baptist Church. She was a leader in the Girls Auxiliary organization of the churches and taught Adult Ladies Sunday School classes.

Survivors include two daughters, Marietta Williams, Carbondale, Ill., and Vernell Williams,  Jefferson City.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Bailey Funeral Home, Vienna, Ill. Burial will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at Bailey Funeral Home, Vienna, Ill.

Memorials are suggested to the Senior's Wellness Program of the Johnson County Sheriff's Department, in care of Bailey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 701, Vienna, Ill. 62995.

VEULEMANS

Flossie Irene Veulemans, 86, Tipton, died Feb. 23, 2002, at Tipton Manor.

She was born Sept. 16, 1915, in Clarksburg, a daughter of Lee R. and Elizabeth Irene Powell Pedego. She was married Oct. 19, 1937, in Tipton, to Thomas Patterson Veulemans, who died Feb. 27, 1982.

She was a lifelong member of the Tipton area and graduated from Tipton High School. She attended Warrensburg Teachers College. She was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She was a member of the Syracuse Friendship Club.

Survivors include: one son, Bill Veulemans, Laurie; one daughter, Betty Jo Hummel, St. Peters; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church. The Rev. Henry Reichert will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today, with an Altar Society rosary at 3 p.m and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Meisenheimer-Griswold Funeral Home, Tipton.

Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association, Price James Library or St. Andrew's Church.

HIGGINS

Venita Maxine Higgins, 69,  Jefferson City, died Feb. 23, 2002, at Hospice of  Jefferson City Friendship House.

She was born Jan. 9, 1933, in Drexel, a daughter of David L. and Mildred Bane Briant. She was married Nov. 21, 1954, in  Jefferson City, to Charles F. Higgins, who died Oct. 7, 1991.

She worked for Exchange National Bank from 1952 to 1974 and with Scholastic Inc. from 1974 until her retirement in 1996. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

Survivors include one sister, Vivia Lee Wheeler,  Jefferson City.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. The Rev. Michael Quinn and the Rev. Jim Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of  Jefferson City & Mid-Missouri or the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Building Fund.

CUNDIFF

Dolores A. "Frosty" Cundiff, 61,  Jefferson City, died Feb. 23, 2002, at Capital Region Medical Center.

She was born Oct. 1, 1940, in  Jefferson City, a daughter of Charles and Marie Schneider Colvin. She was married Sept. 4, 1956, in  Jefferson City, to David C. Cundiff Sr., who survives at the home.

A lifelong resident of the  Jefferson City area, she attended St. Peters School. She was a homemaker and a member of Immaculate Conception Church.

Survivors include: one son, David C. Cundiff Jr.,  Jefferson City; one daughter, Cynthia G. Smith,  Jefferson City; two brothers, Butch Colvin and Terry Colvin, both of Columbia; one sister, Sue Colvin, Columbia; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Freeman Mortuary. The Rev. Gregory Higley will officiate. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Rape and Abuse Crisis Service or the American Heart Association.

BAX

Irene Marie Bax, 81, Osage Bend, died Feb. 24, 2002, at Capital Healthcare Center.

She was born June 20, 1920, in Osage Bend, a daughter of Joseph and Katherine Toebben Schmidt. She was married May 24, 1944, in Osage Bend, to Herbert Joseph Bax, who survives in Westphalia.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. Margaret of Antioch Catholic Church in Osage Bend. She was a member of the Ladies Organization of the church and the Over-Fifty Club.

Survivors include: two sons, Kenneth J. Bax and Glenn E. Bax, both of Osage Bend; three daughters, Elaine K. Brandt, Chamois, Janice M. Groner, St. Thomas, and Carolyn E. Bax, Osage Bend; one sister, Mildred Bruemmer, Taos; 10 grandchildren, one great-grandson.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Margaret of Antioch Catholic Church. The Rev. Louis E. Dorn will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home. Additional visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association, 1121 Business Loop 70 East, Columbia, Mo. 65201, St. Margaret of Antioch Catholic Church, 12025 Route W,  Jefferson City, Mo. 65101, or a charity of the donor's choice.

BELT

Gene Melvin Belt, 74, Centertown, died Feb. 22, 2002, at Beverly Healthcare.

He was born July 5, 1927, in Henley, a son of Melvin and Edna Carrender Belt. He was married June 3, 1947, in Kansas City, to Evelyn B. Gibler, who survives at the home.

He was a member of Centertown Baptist Church. He worked as a mechanic at Mill's Garage in California for 18 years and at the McGraw-Edison manufacturing plant in  Jefferson City for 23 years.

Other survivors include: one son, Michael Wayne Belt, Centertown; four daughters, Carol Jean McDonald, Dallas, Cathy Ann Clemons, Atlanta, Ga., Corliss June Hentges, Centertown, and Cindy Leah Tillman, Brandon, Fla.; three brothers, Robert Belt and Leon Belt, both of Centertown, and Billy Belt of California.; two sisters Jewell Harris and JoAnn Reed, both of California; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren;

Two grandchildren prceded him in death.

The remains will be cremated. A private family service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Centertown Cemetery.

Arrangements are under direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California.

ROTTER

Jay Robert Rotter, 29, Holts Summit, died Feb. 23, 2002, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born Nov. 1, 1972, in  Jefferson City. His father and stepmother, John "Tom" and Jean Rotter, survive in Bonnots Mill. His mother and stepfather, Carolyne and Norman Strobel, survive in Holts Summit.

He attended  Jefferson City High School. He worked for St. Clair Windows and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church,  Jefferson City.

Other survivors include: one son, Damien Michael Rotter, Holts Summit; one daughter, Mackenzie Austin Rotter, Holts Summit; and three brothers, Andy J. Rotter, Tebbetts, Scott E. Rotter and Glen E. Rotter, both of Holts Summit.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Union Hill Baptist Church. The Rev. David Higgs will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors,  Jefferson City.

Memorials are suggested to the Damien and Mackenzie Rotter Trust Fund, in care of Central Bank.

SWARTZ

Jerome B. "Steve" Swartz, 88, Camdenton, died Feb. 23, 2002, at Lake Regional Hospital, Osage Beach.

He was born Aug. 27, 1913, in Ashley, Mich., a son of Francis E. and Opal Swinney Swartz. He was married to Dema Baker, who survives at the home.

He graduated from the University of Illinois as a chemical engineer. He worked in state and federal jobs until 1940. He worked for Anheuser Busch in St. Louis until his retirement in 1968.

Survivors include: two sons, Glenn I. Swartz, Crawfordsville, Iowa, and Larry B. Swartz, Ridgedale; six grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Wednesday morning in Grandview Cemetery, Champaign, Ill.

Arrangements are under the direction of Morgan Memorial Funeral Home, West Savoy, Ill. Local arrangements are under the direction of Hedges Funeral Home, Camdenton.
