MOORE

Opal M. Moore, 90, St. James, died Feb. 26, 2002, at Phelps County Regional Medical Center.

She was born Dec. 22, 1911, in Fortuna, a daughter of Walter and Luella Akin Moore.

She worked at Tweedie Shoe Company in  Jefferson City for 30 years and for Fulton Presbyterian Manor for 10 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in St. James.

Survivors include one daughter, Martha Carrigan, St. James, and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles. The Rev. Jerry Baumann will officiate. Burial will be in Akinsville Cemetery near Fortuna.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Friday.

STROBEL

Paul J. Strobel, 91,  Jefferson City, died Feb. 28, 2002, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility.

He was born May 15, 1910, in Lohman, a son of John H. and Katherine Woehrer Strobel. He was married Sept. 8, 1945, in Lohman, to Nola Marie Scrivner, who died May 21, 2001.

He attended the Mt. Hope and Lohman schools. A former Russellville resident, he worked for the Missouri Highway Department. He also worked for many years as an ambulance attendant and funeral assistant with the Scrivner Funeral Home, Russellville. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Lohman, and was active in the OATS bus program.

Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Brown, Holts Summit, one brother, Gus Strobel,  Jefferson City, and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Carl Gauck will officiate. Burial will be in Enloe Cemetery, Russellville.

Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home, Russellville.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

BACKUES

Gene Backues, 52, Vienna, died Feb. 28, 2002.

He was born July 6, 1949, in Vienna, a son of Leslie and Beulah Wagner Backues. His mother survives in Vienna. He was married July 12, 1978, in Vienna, to Deborah Rollins, who survives at the home.

He worked for ABB Manufacturing Company in  Jefferson City.

Survivors include: two sons, Leslie Fischer and Joe Backues, both of Vienna; one daughter, Sharon Backues, Vienna; two sisters, Bonnie Cahill and May Honse, both of Vienna.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Vienna. The Rev. Cameron Moles and the Rev. Bobby Feeler will officiate. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery near Dixon.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today and from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the Gene Backues Memorial Fund.

Arrangements are under the direction of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna.

BEETLER

Brenda Beetler, 51,  Jefferson City, died Feb. 27, 2002, at Friendship Hospice.

She was born Nov. 21, 1950, in Sikeston, a daughter of Thomas J. and Lois Gist Perry.

She worked at Dunkin Donuts.

Survivors include: two sons, Greg Hagner and Shawn Hagner, both of  Jefferson City; one brother, Thomas Perry, state of California; and one sister, Sherry Dawson, state of California.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Debo Funeral Home, Holts Summit. The Rev. Greg Higley will officiate. Burial will be in Summit Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday.

GRAKLANOFF

Stephan Daniel Graklanoff, 85, Dixon, died Feb. 27, 2002, at his home.

He was born Aug. 18, 1916, in Madison, Ill., a son of Milan and Emma Babich Graklanoff. He was married Feb. 26, 1938, in Madison, Ill., to Dorothy Theresa Tarasovich, who survives.

Survivors include: two daughters, Janet Mayo, Dixon, and Mary Jane Planitz, Jacksonville, Ill.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Dixon. The Rev. Walter Reisinger will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Long-Gilbert Funeral Home, Dixon.

LONG

Rosalee Long, 71, Iberia, died Feb. 28, 2002, at Miller County Care Center, Tuscumbia.

She was born Dec. 12, 1930, in Iberia, a daughter of Luther W. and Jessie Venice Cochran Duncan. Her mother survives in Iberia. She was married Dec. 4, 1946, in Crocker, to Farris Arthur Long, who survives.

She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Union Church of Christ, Brumley.

Survivors include: three daughters, Connie Jones, Debbie Long and Theresa Long, all of Iberia; two sisters, Betty Gilliam and Marjorie Nelson, both of Iberia; three grandsons and two great-grandsons.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia. The Rev. Lee Todd will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Union Cemetery near Brumley.

Visitation will be from noon-2 p.m. Sunday.

TOEBBEN

Edwin A. Toebben, 90, Taos, died Feb. 28, 2002, at Westphalia Retirement Center.

He was born June 3, 1911, in Taos, a son of Henry and Catherine Kramer Toebben. He was married April 10, 1934, in Taos, to Veronica Schneiders, who died June 27, 1989.

He was a lifelong resident of Taos and a farmer. He worked at Von Hoffmann Press until his retirement in 1976. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Taos.

Survivors include: six sons, Alvin Toebben, St. Martins, Albert Toebben, Wardsville, Louis Toebben, Jerry Toebben and Harvey Toebben, all of Taos, and Edward Toebben, Loose Creek; eight daughters, Lorene Brandt, Taos, Mary Jane Schaefer, Ann Lackman and Agnes Schwartz, all of Westphalia, Judy Wieberg, Freeburg, Darlene Russell, St. Thomas, Debbie Peters, Linn, and Vickie Coffman, Bonnots Mill; 55 grandchildren; six step grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren, eight step great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

One son, Robert "Bobby" Toebben, died June 14, 1970. One grandchild and one step grandchild also preceded him in death.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. The Rev. Dave Maher will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m Sunday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors, Taos.

Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church or a charity of the donor's choice.

BRASIER

Robert "Bob" Brasier, 83, Crocker, died Feb. 28, 2002, at Christian Health Care Center, Dixon.

He was born May 27, 1921, in Duke, a son of Francis M. and Minnie Ellen Bray Brasier. He was married Aug. 29, 1945, in  Jefferson City, to Theresia Massman, who died Feb. 19, 1992.

A farmer, he served in the Army and was a member of the VFW.

Survivors include: two sons, William Brasier, Fordland, and Bobby Brasier, Hancock; five daughters, Barbara Bailey, Vichy, Bonnie Jarrett, Crocker, JoAnn Vaughan, Eldon, Dorothy Azevedo, Billings, and Sandra Glass, Hancock; one sister, Emma Barnett, St. Elizabeth; 24 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Long Funeral Home in Crocker. Tom Lawrance will officiate. Burial will be in Crocker Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday and from 10-11 a.m. Monday.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice.

FLAUGHER

William Allen Flaugher, 64, Iberia, died March 1, 2002, at Miller County Care Center.

He was born Sept. 11, 1937, in St. Louis, a son of Guy and Helen Spearman Flaugher. His mother, Helen Livingston, survives in Iberia.

He was a member of Hickory Point Baptist Church near Iberia.

Survivors include: one brother, Frank Flaugher, Iberia; one sister, Shirley Powell, Iberia; two half-sisters, Donna Welch, Dubuque, Iowa, and Elizabeth Cook, Longwood, Fla.; one stepsister, Janice Lawson, Iberia.

His stepfather, Herbert Livingston, preceded him in death.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. The body will be cremated.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia.

TAGGART

Martha Elizabeth Taggart, 88,  Jefferson City, died Feb. 28, 2002, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility.

She was born Jan. 7, 1914, in St. Anthony, a daughter of Henry and Mary Elizabeth Heuer Borgmeyer. She was married July 7, 1936, in St. Elizabeth, to Albert Conrad Kemna, who preceded her in death. She was married June 5, 1968, in Versailles, to Charles W. Taggart, who died Dec. 10, 1983.

A homemaker, she attended St. Anthony Schools. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and St. Ann's Sodality of the church. She worked at International Shoe Factory and at Chesebrough-Ponds until her retirement.

Survivors include: one son, David Adolph Kemna, Springfield; two daughters, Melinda Marie Barnard, New Bloomfield, and Sharon Kay Mallicoat,  Jefferson City; two stepchildren, Nancy Ferris, Lee's Summit, and Eddie Taggart, Prairie Home; nine grandchildren, five step grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Private family services will be at 2 p.m. today at Buescher Memorial Home. The Rev. Robert Kraus will officiate. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery, Marion.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility Activities Department or the New Hope Cemetery Fund.
