GOWER
Robert Gower, 85, Portland, died March 6, 2002, at Boone Hospital Center.
He was born Nov. 1, 1916, in Peoria, Ill., a son of Robert S. and Maud Brown Gower. He was married to Doris Gower, who survives.
He worked as a laborer in the construction field. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the VFW. He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Portland.
Survivors include: two sisters, Betty Parry, Sarasota, Fla., and Barbara Parks, Peoria.
Graveside services with full military honors will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Portland Cemetery. The Rev. Seamus Doyle will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Portland, Mo. 65067.
Arrangements are under the direction of Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton.
HARMAN
Irving "Pete" Harman, Crocker, died March 8, 2002, at Lake Regional Hospital.
He was born Oct. 16, 1933, in High Hill, a son of William and Caroline Engel Harman. He was married to Donna Harman, who died in 1982. He was married Dec. 15, 1983, in Camden County, to Ruby Ann Kennedy, who survives at the home.
He was a cook at Wittmor Farms and Jenny's Cafe. He was an Army veteran.
Survivors include: one son, Irving Harman Jr.; three stepsons, Dennis Kennedy, Camdenton, Danny Lachance, St. Louis, and Wayne Lachance, St. Peters; one daughter, Marilyn Benoit, Eugene; two stepdaughters, Sherry Monell, Crocker, and Jennifer Lowell; two brothers, Charles Harman, High Hill, and Ray Harman, Centralia; two sisters, Virginia Wiseman, St. Louis, and Vera Koelling, Wellsville; 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
One stepson, Eddie Lachance, preceded him in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Harding Funeral Home, Jonesburg. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, High Hill.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Long Funeral Home, Crocker.
LONG
Larry "Butch" Long, 51, Columbia, formerly of Crocker, died March 7, 2002, at Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital.
He was born Oct. 13, 1950, in Brumley, a son of Willie and Elsie McCombs Long.
He worked for Constable Trash Company in Lee's Summit for 20 years. He was a Navy veteran and a member of VFW in Lee's Summit for 10 years.
Survivors include: two sons, Joshua Long and David Long, both of Wyoming; one daughter, Magen Long, Lee's Summit; three brothers, Gary Long, Crocker, Terry Long and Jerry Long, both of Richland; four sisters, Wilma Hooker, Colorado Springs, Colo., Thelma Belsha and Christina Shelton, both of Richland, and Velma Roney, Warsaw; two grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Long Funeral Home, Crocker. Lee Todd will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Iberia.
Visitation will be from 11a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday.
SCHEILZ
Lula Frances Scheilz, 85, Fulton, died March 7, 2002, at Callaway Community Hospital.
She was born May 15, 1916, in Callaway County, a daughter of Vollie C. and Lucille Shryock Salmons. She was married July 30, 1960, in Fulton, to Marshall Scheilz, who died July 17, 1991.
She worked for International Shoe, Stride Rite Shoe, and she retired from Fulton State Hospital. She was a member of Church of God Holiness in Fulton.
Survivors include: six brothers, Roy Salmons, Ernest Salmons, Albert Salmons, Glenn Salmons, Vollie "Ted" Salmons and Joe Salmons, all of Fulton; and two sisters, Betty Lawrence and Dot Vaughan, both of Fulton.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Church of God Holiness. The Rev. Kenneth Peterson and the Rev. I.C. Holland will officiate. Burial will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Debo Funeral Home, and from 1-2 p.m. Sunday at the church.
VIEBROCK
Margaret M. Viebrock, 75, Stover, died March 7, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center.
She was born Aug. 16, 1926, in Stover, a daughter of Wesley M. and Vanity May Ziegel Marriott. She was married May 26, 1946, in Stover, to Calvin H. Viebrock, who survives at the home.
She was a 1944 graduate of Stover High School. She taught for several years at Ritchie School near Stover. She was a homemaker and bookkeeper for Viebrock's Garage and Service Station. She also worked at Smithson's Inc., Mary's Restaurant and Wilbanks' Restaurant, all in Stover, and Head Apple Orchard in Versailles. She served as a Morgan County Republican Election Judge and was a census taker. She was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Stover.
Survivors include: three sons, Edward "Ed" Viebrock, Stover, Robert "Bob" Viebrock, Smithton, and Kevin Viebrock, Camdenton; four brothers, Arnold Marriott, Delmon Marriott and Calvin Marriott, all of Stover, and Donald Marriott, Versailles; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Christ Lutheran Church. The Rev. Duane Thompson will officiate. Burial will be in Kipp Memorial Cemetery in Stover.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 5:30 p.m., at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home, Stover.
Memorials are suggested to Christ Lutheran Church or the Margaret Viebrock Memorial Fund for the Golden Age Living Center in Stover.
WINTERS
Opal Winters, 73, Eldon, died March 8, 2002, in Eldon.
She was born July 30, 1928, in Miller County, a daughter of Elzie and Emma Phillips. She was married July 7, 1949, in Arkansas, to Ralph Winters, who died Sept. 24, 2000.
She was a nurses aide at Still Hospital in Jefferson and retired from Fasco in Eldon. She also raised chickens and turkeys for several years. She was a member of Aurora Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one daughter, Barbara Davis, Clinton; one brother, James Phillips, Eldon; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
One son, Earl Wayne Winters, died Dec. 16, 1991.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. The Rev. Ernie Buscher will officiate. Burial will be in Greenmore Memorial Gardens, Barnett.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
STANFORTH
Nancy N. Stanforth, 96, Lee's Summit, formerly of Jefferson City, died March 7, 2002, at John Knox Village Care Center.
She was born Feb. 19, 1906, in Cole Camp, a daughter of John W. and Irene Cherry Eldridge Neff. She was married to Egbert Stanforth, who died Feb. 23, 1966.
She attended school in Sedalia. She worked as an auditor for the Missouri Hotel from 1935-57; a bookkeeper for the Jordan Stave Co. from 1957-65; a secretary for the Missouri Department of Conservation from 1965-71; and as a bookkeeper for the Freeman Mortuary from 1962 until she retired in 1976.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Jefferson City.
Survivors include: three nephews and one niece.
Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Thomas W. Nelson will officiate.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Monday at Freeman Mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church, Jefferson City.
ERWIN
Edna Erwin, 100, Osage Beach, died March 6, 2002, at her home.
She was born July 18, 1901, in St. Louis, a daughter of John and Bertha Beck Starz. She was married June 10, 1937, in St. Louis, to Andrew "Andy" Erwin, who preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include: one niece, Olive Lang, Davisville.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Greenmore Memorial Gardens, Barnett.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Hedges Funeral Home, Osage Beach.
DAY
Robert C. Day, 73, Osage Beach, died March 7, 2002, at Lake Regional Health System.
He was born May 29, 1928, in Marshall Town, Iowa. He was married May 29, 2000, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Janet Green, who survives at the home.
He was of the Methodist faith.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Kris Wheeler, Omaha, Neb.; one sister, Sandra Duff, Marshall Town; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hedges Funeral Home, Camdenton.
BROWN
Elsie "Juanita" Brown, 59, California, died March 8, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center.
She was born Feb. 5, 1943, in Glasgow, a daughter of Acle and Opal Hillary Brown Twitchel. She was married Dec. 2, 1966, in Miami, Okla., to Billy J. Brown, who survives at the home.
She graduated from Eldon High School, attended data entry school in Kansas City and received her certification as a nurse's assistant in California. She currently was the nigh supervisor for Roedel Cleaning Services at Central Bank's main location in Jefferson City.
Previously, she was a key punch operator for Clerical Services, from 1961-76; worked in the sewing room at California Manufacturing; and was a certified nurses assistant at California Care Center for four years.
She was a member of the Main Street Baptist Church, California.
Other survivors include: two sons, Thomas D. Brown, California, and David L. Brown, Columbia; one brother, Les Twitchel, Russellville; five sisters, Kitty Crow, Belton, Jane Jarrett, Montreal, Sue Elmore, Clinton, Miss.; Barbara Bond, Brazito; Rozi Wood, Eagle, Colo.; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services in California. The Rev. Ken Mathes will officiate. Burial will be in High Point Cemetery, High Point.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. today.
