KIMBALL
Irene Elizabeth Kimball, 74, Jefferson City, died June 9, 1999, at Capital Re-gion Medical Center.
She was born July 14, 1924, in Columbia, a daughter of William A. and Mary Elizabeth Green Tennyson. She was married Aug. 14, 1945, in Sharon, Kan., to Robert E. Allen, who died April 10, 1980. She was married July 25, 1997, in Jefferson City, to Harold Kimball, who survives at the home.
A homemaker, she was a graduate of Jefferson City High School.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Sharon Kay McKinzie, Jefferson City; two brothers, George Tennyson, Jefferson City, and Joe Tennyson, Denver; one sister, Gladys Tamke, Las Vegas; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Longview Cemetery. The Rev. Thomas W. Nelson will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.
Arrangements are under the direction of Buescher Memorial Home.
CROWE
Clara S. Crowe, 83, Jefferson City, died June 10, 1999, at St. Marys Health Center.
She was born Oct. 25, 1915, in Canton, Ill., a daughter of Tom and Vanche Mitchell Sessions. She was married in 1936 in St. Louis to Robert Ormond, who died in 1964. She was married in 1972 in Jefferson City to Hal Crowe, who died in 1977.
A resident of the Jefferson City area since 1955, she was employed as manager of the Missouri State Employment Security Credit Union for 20 years before her retirement in October 1983.
She served as president and as a member of the board of directors of the Jefferson City Meals on Wheels program since 1986. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Memorial Community Hospital Auxiliary.
In 1998, she was awarded the Jefferson City Area United Way Distinguished Service Award for her volunteer efforts.
Survivors include: one son, Gene Ormond, Atlanta; one sister, Betty Hoover, Detroit; three grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Freeman Chapel. The Rev. Dorothy Lairmore will officiate. Private graveside services will be at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Saturday.
Memorials are suggested to the Jefferson City Meals on Wheels program.
JONES
Laura Ruth Bewley Jones, 98, Eldon, died June 9, 1999, at Eldon Health Care Center.
She was born Feb. 6, 1901, in Freeman, a daughter of Fred A. and Sallie E. Glass Bewley. She was married June 15, 1927, in Columbia, to Roscoe Ray Jones, who died in 1938.
She was a longtime resident of Eldon. She graduated from high school in Vineta, Okla. ,and from Warrensburg State Teachers College with a bachelor's degree in music. She taught music in Eldon public schools. She also taught private piano lessons.
She was a longtime member of Eldon United Methodist Church and once was choir director. She was a member and past president of Delta Kappa Gamma.
Survivors include three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Jack Jones.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. The Rev. Fred Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Freeman Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3-4 p.m. Saturday.
Memorials are suggested to Eldon United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
PRENGER
Alfred John "Pete" Prenger, 79, Jefferson City, died June 9, 1999, at Capital Region Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 19, 1920, in Jefferson City, a son of Peter H. and Catherine Marie Wekenborg Prenger. He was married July 19, 1947, in Jefferson City, to Norma Louise Wuelser, who died Jan. 15, 1978.
He was a 1938 graduate of St. Peter High School. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 37 years until his retirement in 1978.
He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, the National Association of Letter Carriers, American Legion Post 5, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, AARP, the Missouri Sheriff's Association and United Commercial Travelers.
He was a member of the Jefferson City Red Bird baseball team.
Survivors include: one daughter, Janet S. Holt, Holts Summit; two sisters, Dorothy M. Prenger and Berniece M. Kaiser, both of Jefferson City; two brothers, Herbert H. Prenger, St. Charles, and Robert J. Prenger, Fayetteville, Ark.; and four grandchildren.
Two sons, Mark Prenger and Michael W. Prenger, preceded him in death.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter Catholic Church. Burial will be later in Resurrection Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the Prenger Family Center.
SAWYER
Alberta Louise Sawyer, 66, Sandy Hook, died June 9, 1999, at Capital Region Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 13, 1932, in Kansas City, a daughter of Willard M. and Rena F. Montgomery Johnson. Her mother survives in St. Joseph. She was married Aug. 13, 1958, in Miami, Okla., to Johnnie W. Sawyer, who survives at the home.
A graduate of Northeast High School in Kansas City, she worked for Swansons Food Corp. at ABB Power T&D Co. and had been employed with Lincoln Nursing Home.
She was a member of St. Martins Catholic Church and the Dietitians Association of America.
Other survivors include: two sons, Tom Hamline, Sweet Springs, and Frank Sawyer, Centertown; four daughters, Alice Matthias, Lohman, Debbie Hamline, Sweet Springs, Mary Schneider, Bland, and Sandy Huckabee, Arbyrd; one brother, Willard F. Johnson, Kansas City; one sister, Marie Pittman, Independence; 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sons: Douglas Karichner on Jan. 18, 1986, Arnold Sawyer on Nov. 5, 1992, and Mitch Hamilton on July 6, 1994.
Services will be at noon Sunday at St. Martins Catholic Church. The Rev. Ed Schmidt will officiate. Graveside services will be at 4:30 p.m. at Mayhan Cemetery near Raymondsville.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Saturday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 8 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.
WHEAT
Russell Allen Wheat Sr., 35, Jefferson City, died June 9, 1999, from injuries sustained in a traffic accident.
He was born July 18, 1963, in Jefferson City, a son of Jesse W. and Voneda Minnie Bryan Wheat. His father survives in Holts Summit.
He attended New Bloomfield and Jefferson City public schools. He worked in the Taxation Division of the Missouri Department of Revenue, and currently was employed as a security attendant at Fulton State Hospital.
He was a member of Solid Rock Family Church.
Other survivors include: his fiancee, Tamra Twyman; one son, Russell Allen Wheat Jr., of the home; two daughters, Annessa Dawn Wheat and Carrie Ann Wheat, both of Jefferson City; four brothers, Herbert A. Bossaller, Jefferson City, Ralph W. Wheat, Eldon, Dennis W. Wheat, Holts Summit, and Roger D. Wheat, Jefferson City; and one sister, Sue Belt, Jefferson City.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Buescher Memorial Home. The Rev. Rick Ballard will officiate. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday.
Memorials are suggested to the Rusty Wheat Memorial Fund.
YOWS
Helyn B. Yows, 90, New Bloomfield, died June 9, 1999, at Capital Region Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 27, 1908, in Boone County, a daughter of John A. and Isabell Jane Wilson Burnett. She was married in 1935 in California, Mo., to Carl I. "Tony" Yows, who died May 24, 1972.
She graduated from New Bloomfield High School and attended the University of Missouri. She also attended college in Kirksville and Warrensburg. She worked for Tweedies in Jefferson City and taught in country schools in the Guthrie area and the Schumate Chapel School in Jefferson City. She was secretary to the superintendent of the New Bloomfield schools from 1967 to 1976.
She was a member of Providence Baptist Church in New Bloomfield, where she taught Sunday school, directed the Training Union and belonged to the WMU Association. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 138 in New Bloomfield and served several times as District Deputy to the Grand Matron and Worthy Matron. She also was a member of the XYZ Club of New Bloomfield.
She is survived by one daughter, Jane Ann Hurtt, Florissant.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Providence Baptist Church. Burial will be in Dry Fork Cemetery, Guthrie.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Debo Funeral Home, Holts Summit, with an Eastern Star service at 7:45 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the Providence Baptist Church Parsonage Fund or Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 138.
BAKER
Edward Judson Baker, 75, Iberia, died June 10, 1999, at Lake Ozark Retirement Center.
He was born Oct. 3, 1923, in Dixon, a son of Elda and Ellen Porter Baker. He was married Nov. 13, 1942, in St. Louis, to Dean James, who survives at the home.
An Army veteran of World War II, he received three Bronze Stars. He attended Iberia Junior College and in 1949 became a clerk at the Iberia Post Office. He transferred to a rural route in 1971, retiring in 1988.
He was a member and deacon at Iberia First Baptist Church, and a past member and deacon at Hickory Point Baptist Church, near Iberia. He was a member of the Iberia R-5 School Board, Iberia Masonic Lodge 410 A.F. & A.M. and Iberia VFW Post 6167. He was active in the Khoury Baseball League.
Other survivors include: one son, James Edward Baker, Chattanooga, Tenn.; two daughters, Linda Dean Hatfield and Carol Ann Pemberton, both of Jefferson City; one brother, Dwight P. Baker, Iberia; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
One grandson preceded him in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia. The Rev. Roger Hatfield will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will be in Iberia Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m.
