SWEARINGEN

Minnie E. Swearingen, 93, St. Charles, formerly of California, died March 9, 2002, at St. Joseph's Health Center.

She was born July 4, 1908, in Jamestown, a daughter of Richard P. and Ella Ross Howard. She was married to Paul H. Swearingen, who died Jan. 29, 1964.

She worked as an elevator operator for 31 years for Scruggs, Vandervert & Barney Department Store in St. Louis. She was a member of Tower Grove Baptist Church in St. Louis and worked in the church nursery for 30 years.

Survivors include: one son, Robert H. Swearingen, St. Charles; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Two sons, Gerald R. Swearingen and Donald G. Swearingen, preceded her in death.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home in California. The Rev. Greg Morrow will officiate. Burial will be in California City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 208 South Oak St., California, MO 65018.

WEBSTER

Bobby Gene Webster, 52, Camdenton, died March 9, 2002, at St. Louis University Hospital.

He was born Aug. 27, 1949, in Camden County, a son of Than and Syble Webster. His mother survives in Camdenton. He was married July 22, 1981, to Laura Madsen, who survives at the home.

He graduated from Camdenton High School in 1967. He worked for the City of Camdenton for 17 years in the Parks Department, becoming parks superintendent, and for the Streets Department. He was a member of the Decaturville Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one son, Justhan Webster, Springfield; one daughter, Melinda Howell, Springfield; two sisters, Betty Blackstock, Bogota, Texas , and Lois Keene, Afton, Okla.; maternal grandmother Stella Webster, Camdenton; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Allee-Holman Funeral Home in Camdenton. The Rev. Dean Rooffener will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Horeb Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to the Auxiliary Hospitality House at St. Louis University Hospital.

GRIFFIN

William R. Griffin, 77, Columbia, died March 5, 2002, at the University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics.

He was born March 6, 1924, in  Jefferson City, a son of Guy and Alvina Staihr Griffin. He was married to Jean B. Griffin, who survives in Columbia.

He received a bachelor's degree in engineering. He moved to Columbia from Carthage 44 years ago. He was a member of Broadway Christian Church, Masonic Lodge 114, 17th Airborne Division Association and American Society of Safety Engineers. He was an Army veteran.

Survivors include: one son, William H. Griffin, Miami, Fla.; and one grandchild.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Broadway Christian Church. The Rev. Rick Frost will officiate. The body was cremated under the direction of Parker Funeral Service & Crematory, Columbia.

Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, PO Box 30638, Columbia, MO 65205.

LOCK

Alice Clara Lock, 84, Koeltztown, died March 11, 2002, at Capital Region Medical Center.

She was born Oct. 1, 1917, in Koeltztown, a daughter of Frank and Elizabeth Blaeser Sandbothe. She was married Dec. 27, 1943, in Koeltztown, to Herbert Lock, who survives at the home.

She was postmaster in Koeltztown from 1947-1984. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, where she was in the ladies quilting group and was church organist for 45 years. She was a member of Argyle VFW Post 8045 ladies auxiliary.

Survivors include: one daughter, Susan "Susie" Wekenborg, Taos; two sisters, Irene Cable, Sun City, Ariz., and Betsy Bax, Taos; and two grandsons.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Msgr. Bernard Boessen will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home in Vienna, and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Memorials are suggested by the family as Masses.

ROBL

The Rev. Eugene Robl, 77, Las Vegas, Nev., died March 10, 2002, in Las Vegas.

He was born June 1, 1924, in Ellinwood, Kan., a son of Michael Robl and Anna Schlochtermeier Robl.

He attended Holy Cross Abbey School and Junior College in Canon City, Colo. and studied at St. Louis Preparatory Seminary and Kenrick Seminary in St. Louis. He was ordained to the priesthood June 1, 1950.

He served as assistant pastor at Holy Savior Catholic Church, Wichita, from 1950-1951; St. John Catholic Church, El Dorado, Kan., from 1951-1954; All Saints Catholic Church, Wichita, from 1954-1959. He was pastor at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, Wichita, from 1959-1963; Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Cunningham, Kan., from 1963-1975; St. Rose Catholic Church, Columbus, from 1975-1976.

He was associate pastor at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Columbia, from 1977-1979. He was administrator and pastor of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Centralia from 1979-1984. He was incardinated into the Diocese of  Jefferson City in August of 1981. He was pastor of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Brunswick and St. Raphael Catholic Church in Indian Grove from 1984-1991. He retired in Columbia, Nov. 1, 1997, and assisted at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

He served twice as chaplain at the Harry S. Truman Veterans Administration Medical Center in Columbia. He served as the Kansas State Chaplain of the Knights of Columbus from 1954-1956. He served as dean of the Brookfield Deanery from 1982-1986 and was a member of the Diocesan Pastoral Council from 1985-1986.

He was a member of the Lions, Kiwanis, and Optimist Clubs; Boy Scouts of America; St. Vincent de Paul Society and the American Red Cross.

Survivors include: one sister, Magdalen Robl, Las Vegas, Nev.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Columbia. Bishop Emeritus Michael F. McAuliffe and the Rev. Msgr. Michael T. Flanagan will officiate. Burial will be Saturday in Saints Peter & Paul Cemetery in Ellinwood, Kan.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Memorials are suggested to the Infirm Priests' Fund of the  Jefferson City Diocese, PO Box 417,  Jefferson City, MO 65102-0417.

Arrangements are under the direction of Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home in  Jefferson City.

REDEL

Clem P. Redel, 85, Venita Park, died March 11, 2002, in Creve Coeur.

He was born Feb. 23, 1917, a son of Timothy and Lena Redel. He was married to Rita M. Brunnert Redel, who survives.

He was a World War II veteran and a member of VFW Post 3944, the American Legion Post 143 and the Longs & Shorts.

Survivors include: six sons, Gary Redel, Haden, Idaho, Richard Redel, Sierra Vista, Ariz., Lee Redel and Jamie Redel, both of St. Louis, Kenneth Redel, St. Peters, and Edwin Redel, Eureka; one brother, Leo Redel,  Jefferson City; and one sister, Rita Holtschneider, Rich Fountain.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Rita Church in Venita Park. Burial will be in  Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Ortmann Funeral Home in Overland.

Memorials are suggested to St. Rita Chapter of Society of St. Vincent DePaul or for Masses.

SHOCKLEY

Clay Shockley, 83, Dixon, died March 11, 2002, at Missouri Veteran's Home, St. James.

He was born June 15, 1918, in Maries County, a son of John and Oma Hopkins Shockley. He was married March 30, 1943, in Pueblo, Colo., to Fern Nelson, who died May 22, 1997.

An Army veteran of World War II, he worked for Civil Service at Ft. Leonard Wood. He also farmed and raised cattle in Maries County. He attended United Methodist Church.

He is survived by two sisters, Idelia Parker, Vienna, and Juanita Scotino, St. Louis.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna. Pastor Richard Parker and the Rev. Karen Alden will officiate. Burial will be in Kenner Cemetery near Dixon.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday and from 9-11 a.m. Saturday.

Memorials are suggested to the Kenner Cemetery Association Perpetual Care Fund, or to the Alzheimer's Disease Association.

TRACHSEL

Edwin G. "Ets" Trachsel, 80, Chamois, died March 11, 2002, in Chamois.

He was born Sept. 11, 1921, in Chamois, a son of Fritz and Anna Liencke Trachsel. He was married April 11, 1953, in Chamois, to Wilma Stieferman, who survives at the home.

He attended Glavin School near Chamois and was a farmer. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Chamois. He was a member of Chamois Lions Club and a member of the Osage County Historical Society. He was past commander of the American Legion Post 506.

Survivors include: one son, Wayne Trachsel, Chamois; three daughters, Nancy Seuss, McKinney, Texas , Marilyn Steffen,  Jefferson City, and Donna Mantle, Wentzville; three brothers, Martin Trachsel, Ted Trachsel, and Ernie Trachsel; three sisters, Rosie Schoer, Martha Dressel, and Hilda Leonard; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at St. John's United Church of Christ, Chamois. The Rev. Deborah Pope will officiate. The body was donated to the University of Missouri Medical School.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to St. John's United Church of Christ.

Arrangements are under the direction of Morton Funeral Home, Chamois.

WOOD

Edward M. Wood, 68, Barnett, died March 9, 2002, in  Jefferson City.

He was born Jan. 10, 1934, in Eldon, a son of Clyde and Lucy Boan Wood. He was married June 25, 1969, in Versailles, to Dorris Moss, who survives at the home.

He was a truck driver, retiring in 1986. He was a Marine veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Rocky Mount Baptist Church. He was a member of the Barnett Lions Club and the American Legion. He was active in distributing food for the Food Pantry.

Survivors include: one son, Gerald Wood, Bois D'Arc; one daughter, Elaine Weaks, Clarksville; one brother, Leonard Wood, Tuscumbia; three sisters, Rosalee Shelden, Eugene, Margaret Mishler, Loma, Colo., and Barbara Slaughter, McLouth, Kan.; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Enloe Cemetery. The Rev. Don Duckworth will officiate.

Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home in Eldon.

Memorials are suggested in care of the family.
