VAHRENBERG

Wonetta Evelyn Vahrenberg, 76, Chamois, died April 12, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center,  Jefferson City.

She was born Aug. 19, 1925, in Chamois, a daughter of George and Stella Curtit South. She was married May 31, 1948, in Chamois to Earl Vahrenberg, who died April 30, 1996.

She attended the Busse School near Chamois. She was a homemaker, and along with her husband, ran the family farm. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Chamois.

Survivors include two daughters: Brenda Corrigan and Peggy Vahrenberg, both of  Jefferson City; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the St. John United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Deborah Pope officiating. Burial will be in the St. John United Church of Christ Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the Meyer-Hilke-Millard Funeral Home, Chamois.

Memorials are suggested to the St. John United Church of Christ or the Hospice of  Jefferson City Friendship House.

WALD

Dr. George Joseph Wald, 80,  Jefferson City, died April 11, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center.

He was born Dec. 29, 1921, in Brooklyn, New York, a son of Ben Wald and Rose Klein.

He was married in 1945 to Phyllis Low, who died in 1949. He later was married Jan. 9, 1956, in Brooklyn, New York, to Sydney Silverman, who survives at the home.

He was a 1941 graduate of James Madison High School in Brooklyn. In 1949, he earned a bachelor's degree in science and a master's degree in agriculture from the University of Idaho, Moscow, Idaho. He was a 1962 graduate of the New York Chiropractic Institute. He served in the Army during World War II, and participated in the 50th anniversary D-Day ceremonies in England. He was a biology teacher in the New York City School System for 32 years, and also was a Doctor of Chiropractic until his retirement in 1986.

He was a member of the Lions Club; Disabled American Veterans; Veterans of Foreign Wars; Jewish War Veterans; United Federation of Teachers in New York City; American Federation of Teachers; the American Legion; the Madison High School Alumni Association and University of Idaho Alumni Association.

Other survivors include: three sons, Geoffrey Liss, state of New Jersey, Dr. Michael Wald of Mt. Kisco, N.Y., and Philip Wald, Hollywood, Calif.; four daughters, Carolyn Schoenthal, state of New Jersey, Benay Runyon,  Jefferson City, Beth Wald, Studio City, Calif., Alison Nieves, Brooklyn, N.Y.; and seven grandchildren.

Private family services will be held. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, Long Island, New York.

Arrangements are under the direction of Houser-Millard Funeral Directors,  Jefferson City.

WITHERS

Junior Withers, 79, Dixon, who died April 12, 2002, at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia.

He was born Aug. 9, 1922, at Roseville, Ill., a son of Robert and Lillie Tyler Withers. He was married Dec. 24, 1946, at Newberg to Emma Ramsey, who survives at the home.

He was retired, but had owned and operated the Withers Service Station in Dixon from 1946-72 and Withers Auto Parts, Dixon, from 1967-85.

Other survivors include: one daughter, Debbie Myers, Rockwall, Texas ; two brothers, Bill Withers and Tommy Withers, both of Dixon; three sisters, Louis Lee, Maxine Helton and Betty Bullock, all of Dixon; and one granddaughter.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Dixon Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes, with the Rev. James St. John officiating. Burial will be in the Dixon Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. today.

GLASER

Edwin H. Glaser, 75,  Jefferson City, died April 14, 2002, at Capital Region Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 22, 1926, near Sullivan, a son of Herman A. and Emma Kramer Glaser. He was married Sept. 4, 1949, near Salisbury, to June Arlene Friesz, who survives.

He attended school in Sullivan and attended Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y. He received bachelor's and master's of science degrees in forestry from the Missouri University. He was a Marine veteran of World War II.

He taught forestry at Mississippi State University and served for more than 40 years in resource management and administration with the Missouri Department of Conservation. He retired as deputy director in 1992. He was a member of Xi Sigma Pi honor society, the Society of American Foresters, and Conservation Federation of Missouri. He was on the Advisory Council School of Natural Resources, on the Interagency Council for Outdoor Recreation, and the Land Reclamation Commission.

He volunteered for the Boy Scouts, PTA, Learning in Retirement, First United Methodist Church, Central Missouri Marine Corps League Detachment, Partners of Americas and others.

Other survivors include; three sons, Robert E. Glaser, Round Rock, Texas , Richard F. Glaser,  Jefferson City, and Randall S. Glaser, Wildwood; three brothers Clarence Glaser, Northport, Ala., Frederick Glaser, Sullivan, and Eugene Glaser, Indianapolis; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. April 27 at First United Methodist Church in  Jefferson City. Burial with military honors will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. on April 27 at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church of  Jefferson City.

Arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

HICKMAN

Bonnie Louise Hickman, 81,  Jefferson City, died April 14, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born Sept. 7, 1920, in Hartsburg, a daughter of Clarence E. and Bertha Nichols Case. She was married Sept. 25, 1937, in  Jefferson City, to Harold B. Hickman, who died Aug. 14, 1979.

She worked for Mattingly's in  Jefferson City for more than 20 years until her retirement. She was a member of the Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Holts Summit.

Survivors include: three sons, David Edward Hickman, Holts Summit, Daniel Harold Hickman, Florence, S.C., and James Robert Hickman,  Jefferson City; one daughter, Nova Dell Meaux, Rolla; one brother, Clifford Case, Holts Summit; three sisters, Lillis Eichoff, Betty Hayden, and Jean Nichols, all of Holts Summit; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors,  Jefferson City. The Rev. Charles Crum will officiate. Burial will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials are suggested to Cedar Grove Baptist Church.

DUNCAN

Vern E. Duncan, 67,  Jefferson City, died April 14, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center.

He was born Nov. 26, 1934, in Larned, Kan., a son of Ray and Pearl Bingamon Duncan. He was married April 16, 1968, in Miami, Okla., to Beverly Blackwell, who survives at the home.

He was a graduate of Larned High School and received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Ft. Hayes State College in Hayes, Kan. He was an Army veteran.

A resident of the  Jefferson City area since 1966, he was the city's plumbing inspector for the past 20 years. He was a master journeyman plumber for 35 years. He was a member of the United Association of Journeyman and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipefitters Industry of the United States and Canada, Local 35.

Survivors include: one son, Gale VanDeventer, Chandler, Ariz.; two daughters, Cheryl Scott and Pamela Nitcher, both of Holts Summit; one brother, Vaughan Duncan, Great Bend, Kan.; one sister, Ruby Buller, Halstead, Kan.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Freeman Mortuary. The Rev. Joe Skiles will officiate.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.

BOGLIANI

Charles "Chuck" Bogliani, 74, Kaiser, died April 14, 2002, at Lake Regional Hospital, Osage Beach.

He was born June 24, 1927, in Christopher, Ill., a son of Isadore and Lena Ugaste Bogliani. He was married April 12, 1952, in Duqion, Ill., to Rena Cassai, who survives at the home.

He owned and operated C & L Excavating and the Star Motel. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

Survivors include: one son, James Bogliani, Kaiser; two daughters, Vicki Harmon, St. Louis, and Anita Mueller, Eureka; one sister, Marie Mulack, Athens, Ala.; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hedges Funeral Home, Osage Beach. The Rev. Rusty Gunn will officiate. Burial will be in Lake Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Osage Beach.

Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11, Columbia, Mo. 65205.

BROWN

Leona Blanche Brown, 89, Williamsburg, died April 13, 2002, in Callaway Community Hospital, Fulton.

She was born Jan 20, 1913, in Montgomery County, a daughter of Huey W. and Allie Luanne Harris Wilbur. She was married June 27, 1935, in Montgomery City, to Herbert Hadley Brown, who died Dec. 11, 1978.

Survivors include: four sons, John Wilbur Brown Sr., Kingdom City, and Herbert H. Brown Jr., Joe Lewis Brown, and James Melvin Brown, all of Williamsburg; one daughter, Leastermae "Cookie" Brown, Williamsburg; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; and great-great-great grandchildren.

One son, Alvin Gene Brown, one daughter, Joyce Sarahann Brown, and four grandchildren preceded her in death.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Debo Funeral Home in Fulton. The Rev. Wardell Finney will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Level Cemetery, Yucatan.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.

COLE

Vara Myrle Cole, 88, Fulton, died April 14, 2002, at Fulton Nursing & Rehabilitation.

She was born Oct. 10, 1913, in Montgomery County, a daughter of Leonard and Beulah Maddox Brandenburg. She was married 1940 in Montgomery County to Doren Walker, who died in 1946. She was married in 1953 in Joplin to Earl Cole, who died in 1958.

She was a homemaker and a member of Heartland Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include: two daughters, Norma Lander, Fulton, and Virginia Rayner, Mercer Island, Wash.; two brothers, Joseph Brandenburg, Bashoer, Kan., and William Kemp,  Oklahoma City; one sister, Myrtle Scott, Alton, Ill; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

One great-grandson preceded her in death.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Debo Funeral Home, Fulton. The Rev. Gary Garrett will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Fulton.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
