HIRSCHMAN

Paula A. Mueller Hirschman, 95,  Jefferson City, died April 20, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born Dec. 4, 1906, in Honey Creek, a daughter of John G. and Kunnie Sommerer Mueller. She was married Dec. 26, 1933 ,in Cole County, to Emil Hirschman, who died June 3, 1969.

She was a life-long resident of central Missouri. She attended Immanuel Lutheran School in Honey Creek.

She farmed in Cole County and owned and operated the Hirschman General Mercantile Store in Osage Bluff from 1933-1969.

She was a member of the Friedens United Church of Christ in Brazito and the Friedens Women's Fellowship.

Survivors include: two sons, Ralph Hirschman and Leroy Hirschman, both of  Jefferson City; one brother, Harry Mueller,  Jefferson City; one sister, Martha Rutledge,  Jefferson City; four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Freeman Mortuary. The Rev. Wendell Stoneburner will officiate. Burial will be at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday.

Memorials are suggested to the Friedens United Church of Christ, Brazito, Mo.

FAIN

George A. Fain, 76,  Jefferson City, died April 20, 2002, at Capital Health Care Center.

Arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

GILPIN

Edward E. Gilpin, 65, Russellville, died April 20, 2002, at his home.

He was born June 4, 1936, in Buckeye, Ariz., a son of Claude and Myrtle Jester Gilpin.

He worked as a chef for 45 years, retiring from Ramada Inn in  Jefferson City after 11 years of service. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the VFW Post 1003, American Legion Post 5 and the Russellville Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include: one son, Vince Gilpin, Olean; two daughters, Robyn Mackay, and Michelle Gilpin, both of Baldwin Park, Calif.; one brother, Tom Gilpin, Russellville; two sisters, Betty Schue,  Oklahoma City, Okla., and Pat Copeland, Brazito; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

One son, Edward E. Gilpin, died in 1998.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Russellville Assembly of God Church. The Rev. James C. Steele will officiate. Burial with full military honors will be in Enloe Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors in  Jefferson City.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

RICHARDSON

Services were today for Irene Humphrey Richardson, 89, Iberia, who died April 20, 2002, at Lake Regional Hospital.

She was born May 12, 1912, in Maries County, a daughter of Walter W. and Stella Crismon Humphrey.

She was a teacher and principal, helping to consolidate the schools in St. Louis County. She worked for the Camp Fire Girls national office in New York in public relations. She worked for Hughes Aircrafts, helping with contracts. She worked for Standard Oil Company in South America. She worked for the YMCA and the Fresno County March of Dimes as executive director. She was chairman of Girl's State for 13 years. She was nominated for Woman of the Year for California and was selected second in the United States. She wrote one of the seconding speeches at the Democratic National Convention for Harry S. Truman. She was the youngest delegate at the convention, representing Missouri. She was a life member of the Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary 37 in Texas . She was a member of Brays Advent Christian Church near Iberia.

Survivors include: one brother, Guy Humphrey, Carson City, Nev.

Services were at Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. The Rev. Earl Skidds officiated. Burial was in Union Cemetery near Iberia.

Memorials are suggested to Union Cemetery.

BORG

Emil L. Borg Jr., 74, Camdenton, died April 20, 2002, at Lake Regional Hospital.

He was born Nov. 6, 1927, in St. Louis, a son of Emil L. Sr., and Blanche Josephine Shreeves Borg. He was married April 16, 1955, in Frederich, Md., to Nancy Yvonne Friel, who survives at the home.

He was an Army veteran of 27 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 68, and the Eastern Star 64, both in St. Louis.

Survivors include: one sister, Edna Bussey, St. Louis; ands three grandchildren.

One son, Jerry Michael Borg, preceded him in death.

Graveside services and burial with full military honors will be at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday in  Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hedges Funeral Home in Camdenton.

HENDERSON

Jeanne E. Henderson, 78,  Jefferson City, died April 20, 2002, in  Jefferson City.

She was born Sept. 14, 1923, a daughter of Irwin and Esther Tubbesing. Her mother survives in  Jefferson City. She was married Dec. 24, 1943, to William Henderson, who died March 27, 1998.

Survivors include: three sons, Scott Henderson, Huntsville, Ala.; Wess Henderson, and Keith Henderson, both of  Jefferson City; two brothers, Lee Tubbesing, Cahokia, Ill., and Lynn Tubbesing, St. Louis; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Baumann Colonial Chapel, 2504 Woodson Road, Overland. Private burial will be in  Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran School Building Fund, 803 Swifts Highway,  Jefferson City, MO 65109.

KEMPKER

Raymond J. "Ray" Kempker, 85, Wardsville, died April 21, 2002, at Villa Marie Skilled Care Center.

He was born April 12, 1917, in Folk, a son of Henry and Gesina Toebben Kempker. He was married Sept. 24, 1940, in Folk, to Cecilia Heckman, who survives at the home.

He attended schools in Folk. He was a farmer, truck driver, carpenter and worked at Eggens Tire. He also worked for St. Joseph's Home for the Aged as custodian. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. He was a officer of the Knights of Columbus and was a 4th Degree Knight. He was past president of Branch 1181 Catholic Knights of America and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Survivors include: six brothers, Clarence Kempker, Mexico, Lawrence Kempker, Centralia, Edward Kempker, Rush Hill, Wilfred Kempker, and Benny Kempker, both of Westphalia, and Joseph Kempker, Frankenstien; four daughters, Marcella Conn, Fulton, Irene Wieberg, Taos, Rose Ann Lueckenotte, and Mary Jane Veit, both of Wardsville; three sisters, Vernita Woehr, Westphalia, Angeline Maasen,  Jefferson City, and Genny Glawson, Holts Summit; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

One son, David Kempker, died July 24, 1960.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Fr. Louis E. Dorn and Fr. David Veit will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., today at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors in  Jefferson City. Additional visitation will be from 10-10:45 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or St. Stanislaus School Foundation.

KEMNA

Herman A. Kemna, 89, Linn, died April 21, 2002, at Capital Region Medical Center.

He was born May 10, 1912, in St. Elizabeth, a son of Frank X. and Mary Rehagen Kemna. He was married Nov. 9, 1940, in Perry County, to Hilda Buchheit, who survives at the home.

He owned and operated an automotive repair shop in Perry County, worked for Woodman Engineering in  Jefferson City, and retired from the Pipefitter's Union. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church.

Survivors include: four sons, Charles Kemna,  Jefferson City, Leroy Kemna, Preston, Ray Kemna, Kansas City, and Richard Kemna, Owensville; two daughters, Mary Jo Fischer, and Margie Hardway, both of Belton; one brother, Norbert Kemna, St. Elizabeth; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors in  Jefferson City. Fr. Brenda Doyle will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Foundation or a charity of the donor's choice.

STRUBBERG

Services were today for Johanna Loretta Strubberg, 91, Washington , who died April 19, 2002.

She was born Oct. 12, 1910, in Gildehaus, a daughter of Joseph and Anna Exler Feldmann. She was married Aug. 10, 1932, to Henry Straatmann, who died Aug. 4, 1948. She was married Sept. 9, 1951, to George Peters, who died Feb. 13, 1959. She was married June 24, 1965, in Neier, to Joseph Strubberg, who died Jan. 19, 1989.

She attended St. John the Baptist School in Gildehaus. She worked at Wonder Maid and retired from Hazel.

Survivors include: three daughters, Theresa Brueggemann, Union, Marian Fennessey, Lebanon, and Bernadette Meyer,  Jefferson City; three stepsons, Melvin Strubberg, Kenneth Strubberg, and Robert Strubberg, all of Washington ; one stepdaughter, Snooky Martin, Washington ; 33 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four grandchildren.

Services were at St. John the Baptist Church in Villa Ridge. The Rev. Jeff Knight officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

ROWDEN

Clifford Wayne Rowden, 61, Brumley, died April 21, 2002, at his home.

He was born Dec. 22, 1940, a son of Clifford P. and Ina Virginia Foredyce Rowden. He was married April 3, 1960, in Dixon, to Cleta June Moneymaker, who died June 26, 1995. He was married Jan. 6, 1996, in Iberia, to Wilma Irene Boulware Davis, who survives at the home.

He worked in construction as a carpenter and attended Brumley Christian Church.

Other survivors include: one daughter, Deb Ash, Brumley; two stepsons, Randall Davis, Vienna, and David Davis, Iberia; two brothers, Willis "Bud" Rowden, Rocky Mount, and Paul Fene Rowden, Wichita, Kan.; one sister, Betty Ruth Winkle, Eldon; one granddaughter and 11 step grandchildren.

One stepson, Larry Davis, died Jan. 10, 2001.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia. Bro. Ralph Byrd will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Union Cemetery near Brumley.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today.
