TEMPLETON
Bill Templeton, 40, Gravois Mills, died April 18, 2002, at his home.
He was born June 28, 1961, a son of Wesley Jr. and Alice Lucille Mount Templeton. His stepfather and mother, Donnie and Alice Hillen, survive in Eldon.
Other survivors include: one son, Randall Templeton, Gravois Mills; three sisters, Evelynn McVicker, Camdenton, Ellen Hader and Jackie Woolley, both of Eldon; one brother, George Templeton, Eldon; his fiancee, Paulette Johnson, Versailles; and one grandson.
Graveside services will be at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday at Rocky Mount Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at Rekus Funeral Home, Eldon.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
BAUER
Ralph Adolph Bauer, 67, Henley, died April 22, 2002.
He was born Jan. 21, 1935, in Brinktown, a son of Herman P. and Celestine A. Winkelman Bauer. He was married May 21, 1966, in Brinktown, to Adeline A. Redel, who survives at the home.
He was a 1954 graduate of Vienna High School. He worked as a truck driver for Barnhart Trucking in Jefferson City and as a cartographer for the Missouri Department of Transportation. He was also a farmer. He was an Army veteran. He was a member of Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Marys Home. He was a 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus 2047 in Marys Home and became a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus 1567 of Saint Jude Assembly in 1974.
Survivors include: three daughters, Charlene M. Morff, Centertown, Laura L. Hoskins, Henley, and LuAnn Kemna, Eugene; five brothers, Joseph Bauer and Anthony Bauer, both of Jefferson City, John Bauer, St. Louis, Norbert Bauer, Kansas City, and Martin Bauer, Brinktown; six sisters, Elizabeth "Betty" Wester, and Mary Gansman, both of St. Louis, Theresa Koerber, Pinesdale, Mont., Agnes LaBruyere, Brinktown, Odilia Kristof, Phoenix, Ariz., and Gertrude "Trudy" Mehlick, Chesterfield; three grandchildren and two step grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Marys Home. The Rev. Clarence Wiederholt will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m., with a rosary at 3 p.m. and 6:45 p.m., Wednesday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Masses, the Marys Home Knights of Columbus or Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church.
Arrangements are by Rekus Funeral Home in Eldon.
ARTERBURN
Services were Monday for Angela Dyer Arterburn, 78, Vienna, formerly of Dixon, who died April 20, 2002, in Maries Manor Health Care Center.
She was born Jan. 25, 1924, in Illinois. She was married Feb. 2, 1957, in Aurora, Ill., to David Duaine Arterburn, who died Dec. 21, 1977.
She moved to the Dixon area from Chicago in 1978. She was a homemaker and a member of the Kenner Church of God near Dixon.
Survivors include brothers.
Graveside services were at Kenner Cemetery near Dixon. The Rev. Paul Smith officiated.
Memorials are suggested to the Kenner Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund.
Arrangements were under the direction of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home in Vienna.
SCHEULEN
Maxine "Max" Scheulen, 46, Branson, died April 20, 2002 at Cox South Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 29, 1955, in Jefferson City, a daughter of Clifford and Leona Otto Lansford.
She was a restaurant manager.
Survivors include: two daughters, Nicole Scheulen, St. Joseph, and Tammy Kennedy, Linn; one brother, Donald Lansford, Linn; three sisters, Carolyn Vaughn, and Claudia Groff, both of Linn, and JoAnn Rademann, St. Thomas; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. George Church in Linn. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Linn.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Friday, and from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are by Greenlawn Funeral Home in Springfield.
HAUPT
Dorothy M. Haupt, 87, Gravois Mills, died April 23, 2002, at Laurie Care Center.
She was born March 21, 1915, in Marceline, a daughter of Fred and Leora Cowell Wylie. She was married Dec. 31, 1935, to Lester E. Haupt, who died Nov. 1, 1973.
She was a member of the Shrine of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Laurie and was active in the Altar Guild.
Survivors include nephews and nieces.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Shrine of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Laurie. Fr. Fred J. Barnett will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Friday at the church.
Arrangements are by Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Laurie.
STARKEY
Marion Lynn Starkey, 79, Minneapolis, Minn., formerly of Fulton, died April 15, 2002, at Mt. Olive Nursing Home.
He was born May 25, 1922. He was married to Euna Starkey, who survives.
Survivors include: one son, Dan Starkey, Minneapolis, Minn.; one daughter, Karyn Lie-Nielsen, Waldoboro, Maine; five sisters, twin Mary Lee Bonnette, San Antonio, Texas , Kathleen Kessinger, Florence Harrison, Ann Peters and Roberta Eldred, all of Springfield; and seven grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Callaway Memorial Gardens in Fulton. The Rev. Stephen Sowder will officiate.
Arrangements are by Debo Funeral Home in Fulton.
GAFFKE
Howard Williams Gaffke, 83, Jefferson City, died April 24, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center.
He was born Sept. 22, 1918, in Kirkwood, a son of Frank S. and Gertrude Williams Gaffke. He was married May 12, 1942, in Jefferson City, to June Marie Scherr, who died Sept. 2, 1955. He was married March 1, 1957, in Jefferson City, to Betty L. Jens, who survives at the home.
He was a 1937 graduate of Jefferson City High School and attended Jefferson City Junior College. He was Cole County Treasurer from 1946-1957. He was appointed in 1957 by Gov. James T. Blair as the Cole County Assessor and served seven elected terms in that office until his retirement in 1985. He worked as governmental relations representative for the Central Bank. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral. He was a life member of the VFW Roy Sone Post 1005, a past president of the County Treasurers Association, past chairman of the Cole County Democratic Committee, and past president of the County Assessor's Association. He was elected as a member of the state Democratic 8th Congressional District delegation in 1972 and past vice chairman of the Jefferson City Charter Commission. He was a past recipient of a 30-year service award from the Missouri Association of Counties, past member of the Public Defenders Commission and was the first co-recipient of the Governor James T. Blair award.
Survivors include: three sons, Dennis H. Gaffke, Crossville, Tenn., and Greg S. Gaffke and Philip L. Gaffke, both of Jefferson City; two daughters, Linda M. Everett, Jefferson City, and Janet K. Landrum, Millersburg; one brother, Frank M. Gaffke, Las Vegas; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Cathedral. The Rev. Fred Elskamp will officiate. Entombment with military honors will be in the Mausoleum of Resurrection Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Freeman Mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Cathedral or the Mid-Missouri Charter of the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association.
PATTERSON
Freida F. Crouse Patterson, 96, Surprise, Ariz., formerly of Jefferson City, died April 21, 2002, in Surprise.
She was born Oct. 18, 1905, in Mound City, a daughter of Frank and Laura Schoenberger Crouse. She was married to Perry W. Patterson, who preceded her in death.
A 1923 graduate of Mound City High School, she attended Northwest Missouri State University. She taught school and worked for the Mound City newspaper and the St. Joseph News-Press. She was a member of Willowbrook United Methodist Church in Sun City, Ariz.; United Methodist Women; and the Aqua Fria Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
One daughter, Joyce Raye Patterson, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Meierhoffer Family Funeral Service, St. Joseph. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Mound City.
Visitation will be from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Saturday.
Memorials are suggested to Inter-Serv, or to the Joyce Raye Patterson Memorial Lecture Series.
SHULL
Larry Joseph Shull, 61, Fulton, died April 22, 2002, at University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics.
He was born Dec. 20, 1940, a son of Ernest C. and Mary R. Smith Shull.
Private burial will be in Summit Memorial Park in Holts Summit.
