HUTCHISON

Marvin T. Hutchison, 86,  Jefferson City, died May 3, 2002, at Capital Region Medical Center.

He was born May 10, 1915, in Maries County, a son of John B. and Hattie Ballance Hutchison. He was married June 17, 1939, in Northwood, Calif., to Iola B. Swearingen, who survives at the home.

A lifelong resident of the Mid-Missouri area, he attended school in Vienna and Sedalia. He worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad for 20 years. He also worked as a corrections officer with the Missouri Department of Corrections at the  Jefferson City Correctional Center for 20 years until his retirement in 1980.

He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church.

Other survivors include: two sons, Thomas Hutchison,  Jefferson City, and John Hutchison, Kansas City; three daughters, Marva Lister and Mary Allen, both of  Jefferson City, and Nancy Feisel, Dayton, Ohio; one sister, Lucy Noe, Ada, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Freeman Mortuary. The Rev. Ken Lumley and the Rev. Mike Rapp will officiate. Entombment will be in the mausoleum of Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Friday.

Memorials are suggested to Memorial Baptist Church.

ALEXANDER

Services were today for Marjorie L. Alexander, 79, Camdenton, died May 4, 2002, at Ozark Care Center, Osage Beach.

She was born Dec. 18, 1922, in Burlington, Kan., a daughter of Walter and Effie M. Baldwin Allen. She was married to Max Alexander, who preceded her in death.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include: one son, Mike Alexander, Kansas City; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren.

One son, Max Alexander, preceded her in death.

Private graveside services were in Graceland Cemetery, Burlington, Kan.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hedges Funeral Home, Camdenton.

ROCKELMAN

Services were April 29 for Theodore Edgar "Ted" Rockelman, Jr., 70, St. Joseph, who died April 26, 2002.

He was born May 5, 1931, in  Jefferson City, a son of Theodore and Lessie L. Johnston Rockelman. He was married June 13, 1969, in St. Joseph, to Joan Jackson, who survives at the home.

He lived in St. Joseph for most of his life. He worked for Wire Rope Corporation for 30 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the 30-Year Club. He was a member of Saxton Lodge 508, A.F. & A.M., where he was a past master. He was a member of Thirty-Second Degree Scottish Rite Mason, Moila Shrine Temple, Legion of Honor, and High-Twelve Club 49, where he served as a volunteer pallbearer. He was a member of American Legion Pony Express Post 359 and Eagles Lodge Aerie 49, where he was a past officer. He was a Savannah Sashayer and helped with a fundraiser for Camp Quality. He had served on the Country Club Village Board. He was a member of Faith United Church and was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include: one son, John Jackson, Magnolia, Texas ; two daughters, Leslie Rocha, Ceres, Calif., and Jean Gayle Vulgamott, St. Joseph; one sister, Loretta Schubert,  Jefferson City; and seven grandchildren.

Services were at Faith United Church. Burial with military honors was in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Faith United Church or the Ted Rockelman Scholarship Fund, in care of Bank Midwest.

Arrangements were under the direction of Meierhoffer-Fleeman Funeral Home, St. Joseph.

THOMAS

Opal Marie Thomas, 86, Tipton, died May 8, 2002, at Tipton Manor.

She was born March 19, 1916, in Florence, a daughter of Ed and Gertrude McNeal Steele. She was married Oct. 2, 1962, in Sedalia, to Hadley Thomas, who died June 19, 1997.

She lived in the Tipton area for most of her life. She worked at the Tipton Pants Factory for 29 years and for Stride Rite Shoe Factory for 10 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tipton and also attended Mt. Olive Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one son, Deo Marcum, Tipton; one stepson, Troy Thomas, Barnett; one brother, Wray Steele, Tipton; two sisters, Nora Cramer and Blanche Schroeder, both of Tipton; three grandsons; two step grandchildren; three great-granddaughters: one step great-grandchild; and one great-great-grandson.

One grandchild preceded her in death.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Meisenheimer-Griswold Funeral Home, Tipton. The Rev. Gary Palmer will officiate. Burial will be in Syracuse Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

HELMIG

Mary Lou Helmig, 73, Hope, died May 8, 2002, at her home.

She was born May 13, 1928, in Osage County, a daughter of William and Maggie Ann Ray Davis. She was married June 6, 1947, in Linn, to Alva J. Helmig, who survives at the home.

A lifelong resident of the area, she attended school in Hope. She was a homemaker and a member of the  Oklahoma Church of Christ. She was a member of the Hope Community Quilters.

Other survivors include: two sons, Dennis J. Helmig, Monroe City, and Alan R. Helmig, O'Fallon; two daughters, Virginia D. Shields, Lonedell, and Margaret G. Barber, Clarksville; one brother, Floyd Davis, Hope; one sister, Gaile Flake, St. Louis; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at  Oklahoma Church of Christ. Pastor Mark Gregor and Pastor Don King will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Morton Funeral Home, Linn.

Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.

WHITTLE

Wilford Gene Whittle, 64, Barnett, died May 7, 2002, at Lake Regional Hospital, Osage Beach.

He was born July 5, 1937, in Morgan County, a son of Everett and Alpha Branch Whittle. He was married Dec. 29, 1980, to Marilyn Jones, who survives at the home.

He worked as a self-employed landscaper. He was pastor at Mt. Nebo Church near Versailles, Big Rock Church near Barnett, and also ministered at correctional institutions in Morgan County.

Other survivors include: two sons, Everett Whittle, Linn Creek, and Jeff Whittle, Barnett; three daughters, Pam Bax,  Jefferson City, and Becky Davenport and Amy Stone, both of Barnett; one sister, Lula Capps, Stover; and 10 grandchildren.

One granddaughter preceded him in death.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles. Pastor Frank McGuire and Pastor Dallas Moritz will officiate. Burial will be in Big Rock Cemetery near Barnett.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to Big Rock Church.

POWELL

Vivian M. Powell, 84,  Jefferson City, died May 8, 2002, at Oak View Living Center.

She was born Jan. 7, 1918, in  Jefferson City, a daughter of George and Ella Lichte Rice.

She was a life-long resident of the  Jefferson City area and was a homemaker.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Riverview Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

ANDERSON

William Nix Anderson, 69,  Jefferson City, died May 7, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center.

He was born Aug. 29, 1932, in St. Louis, a son of D.J. and Clairice Marie Crocker Anderson. He was married July 8, 1961, in Levelland, Texas , to Leona Jayne Sexton, who survives. He was married Feb. 12, 1994, in  Jefferson City, to Olive June Shoemate Lorts, who survives at the home.

He graduated from Alva High School in 1950. He attended Sul Ross College at Alpine, Texas , and graduated with a bachelor's degree in biology in 1959. He worked for the City-County Health Department in Lubbock, Texas from 1959-1961. He moved to Casper, Wyo., and was assistant administrator of the health department until 1986. He received the Star Crystal Award for his outstanding contribution to NEHA in plumbing and an award in 1985 for Outstanding Sanitarian of the National Environmental Health Association. In 1987, he accepted a position with the Missouri State Health Department. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.

Other survivors include: one son, Michael Shane Anderson, Rock Springs, Wyo.; two stepsons, Gary Lorts and Richard Lorts; two stepdaughters, Patty Lorts and Tracy Lorts; six step grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

One son, William Nix Anderson Jr., died Dec. 4, 1990.

Services will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Capital City Christian Church.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or the Diabetes Association.

Arrangements are under the direction of Houser-Millard Funeral Directors.

JACKSON

Ruby Catherine Jackson, 84,  Jefferson City, died May 9, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born April 8, 1918, in Cole County, a daughter of Lawrence and Elsie Grace Scrivner Steenbergen. She was married May 15, 1937, in Cole County, to James T. Jackson, who survives at the home.

She worked for the Missouri Baptist Convention from 1957 until her retirement in 1982. She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church.

Other survivors include: one son, Dr. James Larry Jackson, Bolivar; one brother, Harold Steenbergen, Leawood, Kan.; one sister, Ethel George, St. Louis; and one grandson.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. Brian K. Credille will officiate. Burial will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to the Cornerstone Baptist Church Parking Lot Fund.
