HOLTKAMP

William Howard Holtkamp, 84,  Jefferson City, died May 16, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center.

He was born Sept. 3, 1917, in Mexico, a son of Herman and Ervie Mae Yostmayer Holtkamp. He was married Dec. 31, 1943, in Camp Blanding, Fla., to Catherine C. Welschmeyer, who survives at the home.

A graduate of Mexico High School, he graduated in 1949 from the University of Missouri and was an Army veteran of World War II.

He retired in 1986 as research and management analyst from the Missouri Division of Employment Security, after 28 years. Previously, he worked for AP Green Fire Brick Company in Mexico. He was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral; St. Joseph Men's Association; American Legion Post 5; and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2693.

Other survivors include: one son, Robert Holtkamp,  Jefferson City; four daughters, Marilyn Nowell-Bown, Park City, Utah, Janet Pack, Columbia, Carol Ward, Muscatine, Iowa, and Christine Rackers,  Jefferson City; one brother, Herman A. Holtkamp, Fulton; two stepsisters, Pauline Pettry, Dunedin, Fla., and Ellen Phelps, Kirkland, Wash.; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph Cathedral. The Rev. Fredrick J. Elskamp will officiate. Entombment with military honors will be in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Sunday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Cathedral, or the American Cancer Society, 2413 Hyde Park Rd.,  Jefferson City, Mo. 65109.

BAYS

Opal Alice Bays, 88, Dixon, died May 15, 2002, at Christian Health Care Center, Dixon.

She was born Feb. 17, 1914, in St. Louis, a daughter of Benjamin H. and Helen Mae Tibbs Davis. She was married Jan. 17, 1931, in Vienna, to James Clint Bays, who died in 1980.

She worked at Fort Leonard Wood Post Exchange from 1950-1973, retiring as chief purchasing agent. She was a member of the Dixon United Methodist Church and attended the Burnett Christian Church in Dixon. She was a member of the Hancock Extension Club.

Survivors include: two daughters, Yvonne Miller,  Jefferson City, and Barbara Warman, Dixon; one sister, Georgia Penno, Grand Haven, Mich.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Dixon. The Rev. Tony Townley will officiate. Burial will be in Dixon Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Saturday and from 1-2 p.m. Sunday.

Memorials are suggested to the Dixon United Methodist Church or a charity of the donor's choice.

HAZELHORST

Eugene C. Hazelhorst, 64, Estero, Fla., died May 15, 2002, at his home.

He was born Jan. 12, 1938, in Fresno, Calif., a son of Martin and Helen Kelling Hazelhorst. He was married to Karen Hazelhorst, who survives at the home.

A 20-year Air Force veteran, he served in Vietnam and was a graduate of St. Peter's High School.

Other survivors include: one son, Martin Hazelhorst, Colorado Springs, Colo.; four daughters, Gwen Rasiwala and Heidi Farmar, both of Naples, Fla., Lisa Hofer, Colorado Springs, and Gretchen Meiman, Weston, Fla.; one sister, Karen Porter,  Jefferson City; one brother, Tom Hazelhorst,  Jefferson City; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Leo's Church, Bonita Springs, Fla.

Arrangements are under the direction of Walter Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home, Bonita Springs.

SCHULTE

Services were today for Anna Mary Schulte, 99, Hermann, who died May 14, 2002, at Frene Valley Geriatric & Rehabilitation Center, Hermann.

She was born May 18, 1902, in Hope, a daughter of Fred and Caroline Schuldt Grannert. She was married April 9, 1930, in Bland, to Frank L. Schulte, who preceded her in death.

She worked as a nurse's aide for the nursing home and also cleaned homes. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Stolpe. She was a member of the Ladies Aid, Golden Agers, and the Hermann Manor Senior Housing.

Survivors include: one son, LeRoy Schulte, Hermann; one brother, Kenneth Gove, Buffalo, Wyo.; four sisters, Mary Hemeyer, Marshall, Velma Niewald and Selma Lipskoch, both of Hope, and Margaret Lipskoch, Mt. Sterling; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

One daughter, Laura Mae Schulte, one stepdaughter, Mildred Langenohl, and one stepson, Arthur Schulte, preceded her in death.

Services were at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, Hermann. The Rev. Darrel Deeker officiated. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery, Stolpe.

Memorials are suggested to St. John's Cemetery or a charity of the donor's choice.

WOOD

Pearl Wood, 72, Tuscumbia, died May 16, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born Nov. 16, 1929, in Iberia, a daughter of Otto E. and Sarah Ann Stone Whittle. She was married June 3, 1977, in Brumley, to Leonard E. Wood, who survives at the home.

She was a member of Brumley Christian Church and Miller County VFW Post 2442 Ladies Auxiliary.

Other survivors include: two sons, Rocky Williams and Curt Williams, both of Rocklin, Calif.; one daughter, Sonja Morgan, Henley; two stepsons, Ray Wood, Russellville and Tony Wood, Eldon; one stepdaughter, Angela Wood, Eldon; one brother, Bill Whittle, Eldon; one sister, Edna Fletcher, Tuscumbia; eight grandchildren; six step grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia. The Rev. Mark Kessler will officiate. Burial will be in Gott Cemetery near Ulman.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Saturday.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or to Gott Cemetery.

BRUIN

Ruby Maxine Bruin, 74, Waynesville, died May 16, 2002, at Sunset Village of the Ozarks Medical Center, St. Robert.

She was born July 25, 1927, in St. James, a daughter of William R. and Gertie Mae Skouby Myers. She was married June 14, 1945, in Camdenton, to Jack Edward Bruin, who died in 1971.

She graduated from Camdenton High School in 1944. She owned and operated Charcoal Steak House Restaurant, St. Robert. She was a bookkeeper for the American Life Insurance Company and served as secretary for the Waynesville Business and Professional Women's Club.

She was the secretary of the Pulaski County Women's Democratic Club, secretary of the Pulaski County Hospital Auxiliary and built and operated the Dogwood Hills Mobile Home Court, Waynesville. She served as the president of the Hospital Auxiliary, served on the board for Practical Nursing and served on the board of directors for John Knox Village.

She served on the city council in Waynesville and represented the city on the Industrial Development Commission. She was appointed to the board of advisers for the Division of Family Services and was elected to the board of directors. She was awarded the Citizen of the Year award by the Jaycees and Jaycees Wives.

She worked at Gateway Jewelry for 17 years and was the executive director of the Chamber of Commerce. She served on the Board of Directors of Public Water District 1 of Texas County. She was a member of Roby Baptist Church and Harmony Baptist Church, Buckhorn.

Survivors include: one niece, Lurinda Dickson,  Jefferson City; two nephews, Ray Bledsoe,  Jefferson City, and Ben Krage, Dallas; and several great nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Waynesville Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials are suggested to the Harmony Baptist Church.

RAGLAND

Judge Edwin "Ed" F. Ragland, 81, Cape Girardeau, died May 14, 2002, at the Lutheran Home.

He was born May 29, 1920, in Higginsville, a son of Bernard E. and Estella Louise Finley Ragland. He was married Aug. 14, 1942, in Greenville, S.C., to Wilma Jane Squires, who died Sept. 1, 1999.

He graduated from William Jewell College in Liberty in 1946.He received his law degree from the Missouri University-Kansas City School of Law in 1949. He practiced law in Kansas City for 10 years and then moved to Caruthersville in 1959 to practice law. In 1963 he moved to Cape Girardeau when Gov. John Dalton appointed him chief administrative law judge for the Division of Workers Compensation, southeast Missouri area. He retired from this position in 1990 and then became legal counsel for a law firm in Poplar Bluff until he retired in 1994.

He was a member of Pi Kappa Delta national forensics fraternity and Sigma Nu Greek fraternity and Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity. He was past commander and member of the Cape Girardeau VFW and was a member of American Legion, Elks Lodge, and the Missouri Bar. He was a member of the Democratic Party, Cape Historical Society, Missouri State Historical Society and the Old St. Vincent's Restoration board of directors. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

Survivors include: one son. Lee F. Ragland, Cape Girardeau; one daughter, Terri Ragland Goodhart, Shalimar, Fla.; one brother Judge William L. Ragland, Mobile, Ala.; one sister, Betty Ragland Mansur,  Jefferson City; two grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Clayton Smith will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Lorimier Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.

THOMPSON

Dorothy Diemer Thompson, 89,  Jefferson City, died May 17, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born Jan. 8, 1913, at College Park, Pa., a daughter of Hugo and Bertha Arnold Diemer. She was married Oct. 27, 1933, at Chicago to Charles L. Thompson, who died April. 19, 1993.

She was a 1933 graduate of Chicago University, where her teachers included Thornton Wilder.

She was a homemaker, and moved to  Jefferson City in 1997. She previously had lived in Oak Ridge, Tenn.; Washington , D.C.; Louisville, Ky.; Portland, Ore.; Pasadena, Calif.; Chicago, Ill.; and Frontenac.

While living in Chicago, she served as a Republican Party committeewoman.

Survivors include: four sons, Curtis Thompson,  Jefferson City, Charles Thompson, Boise, Idaho, Frederick Thompson, Marion, Ill., and Michael Thompson, Springfield, Va.; one sister, Mary Schlentz, Tucson, Ariz.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Private graveside services and entombment will be at the Riverview Cemetery Mausoleum.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimers Disease and Related Disorders Assn.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Freeman Mortuary.

BLAKEY

Jared Lee Blakey, 18, Mokane, died May 17, 2002, in Callaway County.

He was born Jan. 16, 1984, in Fulton, a son of Kenneth Blakey and Brenda Blakey. His father survives in Mokane and his mother survives in Fulton.

He attended Millersburg Baptist Church and Fulton Academy. He was a Boy Scout in Fulton.

Other survivors include: three brothers, David Blakey, Jody Neal and Aaron Martin, all of Fulton; and maternal grandmother, Lela Boldwin, Holts Summit.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Debo Funeral Home, Fulton. The Rev. Mike Crowson will officiate. Burial will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday.
