KRUSE
Marjorie L. Kruse, 74, Columbia, formerly of Gravois Mills, died June 19, 1999, in Columbia.
She was born
Feb. 17, 1925, in Felicity, Ohio, a daughter of Wesley and Minnie Gardley Bratton. She was married
July 15, 1944, to Elbert O. Kruse, who preceded her in death.
She was head of bookkeeping at Boone County Bank in Columbia. She retired and moved to Lake of the Ozarks in 1979. A former Versailles resident, she was a member of Versailles United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: one son, Jesse R. Kruse, Columbia; one daughter, Patricia Ann Hull, Edwardsville, Kan.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles. The Rev. Gary DeWitt will officiate. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Salisbury Cemetery, Salisbury.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
OWSLEY
Clara A. Owsley, 79, Jefferson City, died June 19, 1999, at Capital Region Medical Center.
She was born
Sept. 25, 1919, in Jefferson City, a daughter of Edward and Caroline Brondel Welch. She was married
Jan. 1, 1938, in Jefferson City, to Charles Owsley, who died May 8, 1993.
She worked as a cook in the Jefferson City public schools for 21 years, retiring from Simonsen in 1984. She worked as a machine operator at Oberman Manufacturing for 20 years.
She was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church and St. Ann's Sodality.
Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Schulte, Jefferson City, four grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
One daughter, Betty Kelly, died Dec. 3, 1993. One son, Jim Owsley, died Feb. 26, 1972.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peters Catholic Church. The Rev. Erwin Konrad will officiate. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Houser-Millard Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Jefferson City and Mid-Missouri.
TENNYSON
George R. Tennyson, 71, Jefferson City, died June 13, 1999, at Capital Region Medical Center.
He was born
Dec. 17, 1928, in Jefferson City, a son of William E. and Mary Elizabeth Harris Tennyson.
He was a self-employed handyman.
Survivors include: two sisters, Gladys M. Tampke, Las Vegas, and Evelyn Buescher, Twin Falls, Idaho; and one brother, David J. Tennyson, Commerce City, Colo.
Burial will be at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home.
WHITAKER
Enos E.K. Whitaker, 76, Jefferson City, died June 20, 1999, at Capital Region Medical Center.
He was born
April 24, 1923, in Cameron, a son of Arthur and Mary Armstrong Whitaker. He was married
Dec. 26, 1944, in Jefferson City, to Lucille Taylor, who survives at the home.
A graduate of Turney High School, he attended Navy submarine school at Ames College, Ames, Iowa, and served in World War II. He worked for the Missouri Highway Department District 5 for 29 years, retiring as a permit inspector in 1974.
He was a member and past deacon of First Presbyterian Church; a member of the VFW, Roy Sone Post 1003; and a member of the Missouri Highway Department Employee Association. He belonged to the Muzzelloaders Club and played for the Tweedie Footwear Factory baseball team.
Other survivors include: one son, R. Kelly Whitaker, Jefferson City; two daughters, Colleen Cremer, Houston, Texas, and Lu Anne Wekenborg, Jefferson City; two sisters, Lou Gene Edwards, Cameron, and Joan Hansen, Turlock, Calif.; one brother, Bill Whitaker, Sanger, Calif; one stepsister, Erma Jean Githens, Osborn; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Freeman Mortuary. The Rev. Arthur Hughes will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Thursday.
Memorials are suggested to First Presbyterian Church.
SCHUETTE
June Hildegard Schuette, 86, Lebanon, died June 20, 1999, at Breech Regional Medical Center, Lebanon.
She was born
June 10, 1913, in Collinsville, Ill., a daughter of Charles and Louise Richter Eckart. She was married
Oct. 18, 1936, to Waldemar Albert "Wally" Schuette, who survives at the home.
A resident of Lebanon since 1970, she was a homemaker. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lebanon, and was involved in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She was a member of Lebanon Country Club.
Other survivors include: two sons, the Rev. Ronald Schuette, Miami, Fla., and Howard Schuette, Decatur, Ill.; three daughters, Sylvia Lange, Jefferson City, Jane Dimitri, Valparaiso, Ind., and Cindy Wilkerson, Lebanon; 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lebanon. The Rev. John Myers will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Rose Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 7-8:30 p.m. today at Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Lebanon.
Memorials are suggested to the Lutheran Women's Missionary League.
BIRK
Yaiko Clara Okamoto Birk, 70, Jefferson City, died June 22, 1999, at her home.
She was born
Nov. 10, 1928, in Hokodate, Hokkaido, Japan, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Suegoru Okamoto. She was married
April 20, 1964, in Misawa, Japan, to Donald L. Birk, who survives at the home.
She was employed at the Far-East Base Exchange Service at Misawa Air Base, Japan. A resident of Jefferson City since 1964, she worked at Tweedie Foot Wear for one year; at McGraw-Edison Co., Shop Smith Inc.; and at Jefferson City Manufacturing Co. for 25 years until her retirement in the late 1980s.
She was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church; Knights of Columbus Council 7194 Auxiliary, St. Martins; and St. Jude Fourth Degree Assembly Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary.
She also is survived by one brother, Hiroshi Okamoto, Asahikawa, Hokkaido, Japan.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Martin Catholic Church. The Rev. Edwin A. Schmidt will officiate. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to St. Marys Health Center Oncology Department or to the St. Martin Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary.
BLACKMAN
Charles Edward Blackman, 78, Warsaw, died June 19, 1999, at Boone County Hospital, Columbia.
He was born
Feb. 27, 1921, in Moniteau County, a son of Reed J. and Loyeta Blackman. He was married
June 27, 1948, in Columbia, to Mary Helen Zaring, who survives at the home.
He was a graduate of Stover High School, Stover, New Mexico State Teachers College and Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg. He received a master's degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and taught for 20 years.
He was employed by the Missouri Department of Education from 1965 to 1984. A Navy veteran of World War II, he received two Distinguished Flying Crosses, eight Air Medals and a Presidential Citation. In 1959, he was named Outstanding Citizen by the VFW.
He served as a counselor and state supervisor of guidance for the Missouri Guidance Association, receiving a Special Service Award in 1972. In 1993, he was inducted into the Western New Mexico University Basketball Hall of Fame.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Pamela Zaring Keilholz, Chamois; one son, John Edward Blackman, Affton; one sister, Ruth Coester, Mesa, Ariz.; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Methodist Church of Stover. The Rev. Gary DeWitt will officiate. Burial will be in Stover Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw.
Memorials are suggested to an Education Scholarship Fund for students entering the guidance counseling field.
DUDENHOEFFER
Lawrence A. Dudenhoeffer, 73, Frankenstein, died June 21, 1999, at his home.
He was born
Dec. 5, 1925, in Frankenstein, a son of Joseph M. and Ida Haslag Dudenhoeffer.
He attended St. Mary's School, Frankenstein, and was an Army veteran of World War II. A lifelong area resident, he was a farmer.
He was a member of Our Lady of Help Church, Frankenstein.
Survivors include: one brother, Joseph J. Dudenhoeffer, Jefferson City; and four sisters, Margaret Glavin, Jefferson City, Anna Marie Dudenhoeffer, Frankenstein, Veronica Green, Caseyville, Ill., and Theresia Murphy, St. Ann.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Help Church. The Rev. Peter Walsh will officiate. Burial will be in Garden of Gethsemane Cemetery, Frankenstein.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Morton Funeral Home, Linn, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.
GREGORY
F. LaVaughn Gregory, 78, Camdenton, died June 21, 1999, at Windsor Estates Convalescent Center, Camdenton.
She was born
Oct. 12, 1920, in Kansas City, Kan., a daughter of John and Cleo Humphrey Lewis.
She was a retired seamstress.
Survivors include: one son, Ron Riley, Camdenton; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was cremated. Inurnment will be at a later date in Maple Hill Memorial Gardens, Kansas City, Kan.
