ELLEY

Margaret Olive Elley, 83, Fortuna, died Aug. 3, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born July 8, 1919, near Fortuna, a daughter of Launer Burr and Sarah Purnell Tankersley. She was married Sept. 30, 1941, in Little Rock, Ark., to Ralph Clifford Elley Sr., who died Dec. 26, 1984.

She was a homemaker and a member of Fortuna Baptist Church.

Survivors include: three sons, Ralph Clifford Elley Jr., Dubuque, Iowa, Carl Ray Elley and David Ellis Elley, both of Fortuna; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

One son, Jim Edward Elley, died Dec. 11, 1982.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles. The Rev. Daniel Rogers will officiate. Burial will be in Newkirk Cemetery near Fortuna.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to the Fortuna Baptist Church.

HALL

Services were today for William James "Bill" Hall Jr., 60, Moberly, who died Aug. 1, 2002, at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia.

He was born Nov. 11, 1941, in Binghamton, N.Y., a son of William J. Sr., and Sophie Kulpeksa Hall. He was married July 8, 1982, to Janice Haynes, who survives at the home.

He graduated from Auburn University with a bachelor's of science degree in electrical engineering. He worked in law enforcement from 1963-2002, retiring from the Moberly Police Department. He worked for the Randolph County Sheriff's Department, Maryland State Police, El Dorado Springs Police Department and Butler Police Department. He served as chief of police for Slater and chief deputy sheriff of Shelby County. He was an engineer for NASA-Goddard Space Flight Center from 1970-1973. He was a member of the Catholic church, American Legion Bazan-Bailey Post 6 and the VFW. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Survivors include: one son, Karl Jay Rodieck,  Jefferson City; one daughter, Kellie Villani,  Jefferson City; one brother, Edward Hall, Severna Park, Md.; two sisters, Sophie Rice, Berkeley Springs, W. Va., and Roseanne Due, Milo; and four grandchildren.

One son, William James Hall III., preceded him in death.

Services were at Cater Funeral Home in Moberly. The Rev. Steve Allen officiated. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler.

Memorials are suggested to American Legion Post 6.

Arrangements are under the direction of Underwood-Steinbeck Funeral Home, Butler.

KENNEDY

Sharon L. Kennedy, 64,  Jefferson City, died Aug. 4, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born June 15, 1938, in  Jefferson City, a daughter of Wallace R. and Irene Durham Daly.

She was a graduate of  Jefferson City High School. She received a bachelor's of science degree in education from San Diego State University and a master's degree in education from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. She worked as the society editor for the  Jefferson City News-Tribune from 1957-1960. She moved to Las Cruces, N.M. and later to San Diego, Calif. She taught English and was senior electives teacher at the Santana High School, Santee, Calif., from 1967 until her retirement in 2000, when she returned to  Jefferson City. She was a patron of the arts of the Old Globe Theatre in Balboa Park, San Diego.

Survivors include one son, Martin Andrew Kennedy II.,  Jefferson City, one brother, Michael Daly, Ft. Madison, Iowa, and one sister, Claudia Walz,  Jefferson City.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Riverview Cemetery. The Rev. Brian Credille will officiate.

Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Freeman Mortuary.

Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.

NIBBELINK

Vera Joyce Nibbelink, 77,  Jefferson City, died Aug. 3, 2002, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility.

She was born Feb. 2, 1925, in Columbia, a daughter of Nathan R. and Vera Wallace Hagan. She was married April 4, 1946, to Wayne Roy Nibbelink, who died Feb. 4, 1970.

She was a graduate of Hickman High School. She lived her entire life in Columbia.

She worked at the University of Missouri as a telecommunications operator for 20 years.

She worked at the Gerbes bakery. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.

Survivors include: two sons, Larry W. Nibbelink, Lenexa, Kan., and William Nathan Nebbelink,  Jefferson City; one daughter, Sue Jackson, St. Charles; and 10 grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Cemetery, Columbia. The Rev. William Smith will officiate.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuedsay at Parker Funeral Service.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 30638, Columbia, Mo. 65205.

SCHEPERS

Norbert Bernard "Shorty" Schepers, 81,  Jefferson City, died Aug. 4, 2002, at his home.

He was born March 5, 1921, in Castle Rock, a son of Albert A. and Christina Toebben Schepers. He was married April 15, 1950, in Linn, to Eulalia Veronica "Eula" Donehue, who survives at the home.

He was a 1939 graduate of Westphalia High School. He owned and operated Schepers Broadway Shell; Schepers John Deere Implement Company; service stations in Westphalia and Moberly; and was an insurance agent with World Wide Insurance Company and Catholic Knights Insurance Company. He retired in 1972 as an inspector with the Dairy Herd Improvement Association of the Missouri Extension Service.

He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, the Men's Sodality and Helias Knights of Columbus Council 1054.

He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, Roy Sone VFW Post 1003 and American Legion 40 & 8 Voiture.

He was past commander of Roscoe Enloe American Legion Post 5 and was instrumental in the reorganization of the Sons of the American Legion.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include: four sons, Timothy J. Schepers, Thomas M. Schepers, and Daniel P. Schepers, all of  Jefferson City, and Douglas A. Schepers, Carrboro, N.C.; eight daughters, Patricia J. Dyball and Roberta L. Schulte, both of Holts Summit, Christina A. Pendleton, Overland Park, Kan., Rebecca J. Schneider and Jacqueline K. Hickman, both of  Jefferson City, Cynthia S. Record, Lakewood, Colo., Lisa B. Reynolds, Calif., and Jennifer G. Connell, Columbia; one brother, Levi Schepers, Wardsville; three sisters, Lorine Franken and Dolores Thurston, both of  Jefferson City, and Edna Franken, St. Louis; 25 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The Rev. Donald W. Lammers will officiate. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to Vogelweid Learning Center, 216 Broadway Street,  Jefferson City, Mo. 65101or Roscoe Enloe American Legion Post 5, 1423 Tanner Bridge Rd.,  Jefferson City, Mo 65101.

HECKEL

Fredrick H. "Fred" Heckel, 98,  Jefferson City, died Aug. 3, 2002, at  Jefferson City Manor Care Center.

Arrangements are at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors.

WEBSTER

Mary Alice Webster, 69,  Jefferson City, died Aug. 5, 2002, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility.

She was born Feb. 9, 1933, in Stoddard County, a daughter of James L. and Gussie Beights Hodge. She was married April 2, 1966, in  Jefferson City, to Robert David Webster, who survives at the home.

She graduated from Puxico High School. She worked for Mattingly's Dime Store, the Missouri State Department of Education, Missouri Department of Conservation, and Easter Seals Society.

She served the American Legion Auxiliary, Department of Missouri as secretary-treasurer for 18 years. She also was chaplain, historian, second vice president and VA&R chairman for the auxiliary. She was first vice president and membership chairman in 2000-2001 and was president in 2001-2002.

She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Roscoe Enloe Unit 5, serving as president from 1991-1992.. She was a member of the 8 & 40 and Chouteau Grotto Caving Club.

She volunteered at Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include: one son, Robert Lewis Webster, Springfield; three daughters, Debbie Ann Weatherly and Connie Webster, both of Springfield, and Wendy Webster,  Jefferson City; two brothers, Harry Hodge, Clearwater, Fla., and Dale Hodge, state of Michigan; three sisters, Gladys Page, Puxico, Lillian Adams, Kansas City, and Violet Crain, Cape Girardeau; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Buescher Memorial Home. The Rev. Rudolph W. Beard will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, with an American Legion Auxiliary service at 6:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to Mary Alice's Presidency Project of the American Legion Auxiliary, Department of Missouri, 600 Ellis Blvd.,  Jefferson City, Mo. 65101.

COX

Gertrude O. Cox, 99, Stover, died Aug. 2, 2002, at the Good Shepherd Care in Versailles.

Arrangements are at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles.

COX

Lena L. Cox, 62, Sunrise Beach, died Aug. 6, 2002, at Lake Regional Hospital, Osage Beach.

She was born June 8, 1940, in Danville, Ky., a daughter of Val and Mary Walker Sharp.

Survivors include: one son, Michael Cox, Newport News, Va.; two daughters, Connie Kaaz, Leavenworth, Kan., and Cindy Brown, Billings; one brother, Peter Sharp, St. Petersburg, Fla.; one sister, Louise Patterson, Lexington, Ky.; and four grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church, Laurie. The Rev. Jim Lawley will officiate. Entombment will be in Garber Memorial Estates Columbarium, Laurie.

Memorials are suggested to Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church or the Arthritis Foundation.

Arrangements are under the direction of Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Laurie.
