BARTELL

Elizabeth Klara Bartell, 73, Eldon, died Aug. 17, 2002, in  Jefferson City.

She was born Oct., 6, 1928, in Czechoslovakia, a daughter of Karl and Stephanie Ullmann. She was married May 25, 1954, to Lawrence William Bartell.

She fled Czechoslovakia to Germany in World War II and immigrated to Canada in 1952. In 1954, she gained United States citizenship. She worked as a machine operator for Rawlings Sporting Goods, where she was recognized for several pieces she designed. She owned and operated Pedigree Dog Kennel.

Survivors include: three daughters, Donna Lynn Vogelsang, state of Missouri, Debbie Green,  Jefferson City, and Doris Basel Herron, Houston, Mo.; five brothers, Karl Ullmann, Giessen, Germany, Horst Ullmann, Germany, Werner Ullmann, Wehenberg, Germany, Rudolf Ullmann, Langgons, Germany, and Franz Ullmann, Waschenbeuren, Germany; two sisters, Christine Gallagher, Sarver, Pa, and Adelheid Schulze, Giessen, Germany; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. The Rev. James J. O'Sullivan will officiate. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Tol Wood Cemetery, Eldon. The Rev. Walter Simpson will officiate.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.

LEONARD

Services were today for Herman A. "Pat" Leonard, 90, Centertown, who died Aug. 13, 2002, at Capital Region Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 20, 1911, near Centertown, a son of John and Julia Ann Bruto Leonard. He was married June 13, 1940, in California, to Frances Hentges, who died July 19, 2002.

He graduated from Sweetwater School near Centertown. A lifelong farmer, he was an auto mechanic at Leonard's Garage, California. He was a night watchman at California Manufacturing and at the Missouri National Guard until retiring. He was a member of the Annunciation Catholic Church.

Survivors include: one son, Patrick Leonard, Centertown; one daughter, Mary Lou Porter, Centertown; one sister, Josephine Wingate, California; eight grandchildren; two step grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren.

Services were at Annunciation Catholic Church. The Rev. Greg Higley officiated. Burial was in Annunciation Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Annunciation Catholic Church-Building Fund, 414 Patrick St., California, Mo. 65018.

Arrangements were under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California.

DRAFFEN

Lillian Frances Draffen, 73, Tipton, died Aug. 19, 2002, in Tipton.

She was born Feb. 23, 1929, in New Franklin, a daughter of Urban and Lillie Wesselman Schmitt. She was married Sept. 2, 1950, in Tipton, to George Stanley Draffen, who died Jan. 24, 1997.

She graduated from Tipton High School in 1947. She worked at Stride Rite Shoe Factory in Tipton as a shop steward for many years. She was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She served two terms as president of the United Food & Commercial Workers, Local 826.

Survivors include: seven sons, George Draffen Jr., Kenneth J. Draffen, Donald Draffen and Harold G. Draffen, all of Tipton, Herbert Draffen and Daniel Draffen, both of California, and Steven Draffen, Sedalia; four daughters, Kathleen Kempker, Eldon, Lily Beck,  Jefferson City, Mary Draffen and Jo Ann Koechner, both of Tipton; one sister, Irene Wolf, Tipton; 26 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Tipton. The Rev. David Veit will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Meisenheimer-Griswold Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will be an Altar Society Rosary at 3 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to St. Andrew's School or Church.

GREEN

Frieda M. Green, 75, Raytown, died Aug. 17, 2002.

She was born April 17, 1927, in  Jefferson City, a daughter of Steve and Fannie Hicks Phelps. She was married to Warren G. "Dubb" Green, who preceded her in death.

She was employed by H.D. Lee Company in Lenexa, Kan., and was a member of New Haven Baptist Church.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hinton-Gibson Funeral Home, Raytown. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery,  Jefferson City.

Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday.

Memorials are suggested to New Haven Baptist Church, 5501 Blue Ridge Cut Off, Raytown, Mo. 64133.

JONES

Gale L. Jones, 72, Montreal, died Aug. 18, 2002, at Ozark Care Center, Osage Beach.

He was born April 28, 1930, in Montreal, a son of Willie and Jennie Swain Jones. He was married Nov. 25, 1951, in Lebanon, to Mary Louis Rogers, who survives at the home.

He was a farmer and a truck driver.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Susan Brown, Stoutland, and Sandy Snelling, Montreal; one brother, George Jones, Camdenton; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

One son, Steven Jones, preceded him in death.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hedges Funeral Home, Camdenton. The Rev. Kenny Fredrick will officiate. Burial will be in Buffalo Prairie Cemetery, Montreal.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to Buffalo Prairie Cemetery.

LIGGETT

Leonard C. Liggett, 78, Laurie, died Aug. 18, 2002, at his home.

He was born Aug. 18, 1924, a son of Glen and Mary Liggett. He was married to Peggy Zoucha Liggett, who preceded him in death. He was married to Lola Jackson Liggett, who also preceded him in death.

He was self-employed and served in the Navy during World War II. He was a past commander in the American Legion Post 648. He was a member of the 40 & 8, the VFW Post 5923 and was a Shriner.

Survivors include: one daughter, Judy Weaver, Gainesville, Ga.; one brother, Charles Liggett, Topeka, Kan.; two stepsons, Bob Hamman, Salina, Kan., and Rick Hamman, Parkville; three grandchildren, four step grandchildren and one step great-grandson.

One granddaughter preceded him death.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hedges Funeral Home, Camdenton.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials are suggested to Westside Senior Association, 1501 Highway O, Gravois Mills, Mo. 65037.

SCOTT

Lloyd John William Scott, 87,  Jefferson City, died Aug. 19, 2002, at the Medical Center of Independence.

He was born Aug. 16, 1915, in  Jefferson City, a son of Tira A. and Viola Ann Wiles Scott. He was married Jan. 1, 1941, in Denver, Colo., to Helen E. Chase, who died April 8, 2000.

He was an Air Force officer, serving in the military for more than 30 years. He was assigned to the office of the Secretary of the Air Force in the Pentagon for 16 years and was a Lieutenant Colonel. He worked for the Missouri Retailer's Association from 1960-1980 and was then self employed until retirement. He lived for the past two years in Independence. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in  Jefferson City. He was a member of the  Jefferson Lodge 43 A.F. & A.M., the Columbia Valley Scottish Rite, Moolah Temple Shrine of St. Louis, the Capital Shrine Club, the Retired Officer's Association, Senior Connection, Mended Hearts Club and American Legion Post 5 in  Jefferson City and Post 0021 in Independence.

Survivors include: one son, Ronald W. Scott, Vienna, Va.; one daughter, Virginia K. "Ginny" Gaugh, Independence; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors in  Jefferson City. The Rev. Doyle Sager will officiate. Burial with full military honors will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials are suggested to Kansas City Hospice, 1625 West 92nd Street, Kansas City, MO 64114.

BUEKER

Donna Lou Bueker, 70, Calif., died Aug. 18, 2002, at Bothwell Hospital, Sedalia.

She was born Aug. 15, 1932, in Barry County, a daughter of Carl and Lena Kocher Bueker.

She was a housekeeper and cared for the elderly. She was a member of California UCC Church and the Womens Guild.

Survivors include cousins.

Her stepmother, Grace Bueker, preceded her in death.

Services will be at noon Friday at Weber & Sons Funeral Home, California. The Rev. Gary Schulte and the Rev. Judith Rinhardt Nelson will officiate. Burial will be at a later date.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-noon Friday.

Memorials are suggested to California UCC Church Building Fund.

BULL

Shirley Bull, 67, Osage Beach, died Aug. 18, 2002, at her home.

She was born Aug. 25, 1934, in St. Louis, a daughter of John and Mildred Sikora Wolk. She was married Feb. 2, 1984, in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, to Charlie Bull, who survives at the home.

She was a homemaker.

Other survivors include: two sons, Charles Robinson, Tampa, Fla., and Tony Robinson, Lebanon; two stepsons, Steve Bull, Bogota, Colombia, and Charles Bull, St. Louis; two daughters, Cherie Mandel, Tampa, and Susan Butal, St. Charles; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Hedges Funeral Home, Camdenton. The Rev. Raphael Keyes will officiate. Entombment will be in Praying Hands Mausoleum, Osage Beach.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday.
