FRANCIS
Robert E. Francis, 74, Tipton, died Aug. 18, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center.
He was born March 15, 1928, in Versailles, a son of Bert and Amy Wood Francis. He was married June 5, 1949, to Thelma R. Beard, who survives at the home.
A 1946 graduate of Versailles High School, he was a Navy veteran of World War II. He retired from Garden Grove School District, Garden Grove, Calif., after 30 years of service. He returned to Missouri after retirement.
Other survivors include one brother, Bert R. Francis, Kansas City.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hopewell Cemetery, near Barnett. Michael Tapavica will officiate. Inurnment will follow services.
Memorials are suggested to Hopewell Cemetery, Hopewell Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles.
JONES
Helen L. Jones, 86, Jefferson City, died Aug. 21, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center.
She was born March 17, 1916, in Osage County, a daughter of Edward W. and Lula Belle Gray Schreimann. She was married Nov. 20, 1937, in Jefferson City, to Clinton E. Jones, who survives at the home.
A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, she attended Jefferson City Public Schools. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two daughters, Carol Ann Hilton, Richmond, Va., and Judith Kay Berry, Marshfield; one brother, Marcellus Schreiman, Jefferson City; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Doyle Sager will officiate.
Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Saturday.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
PHILLIPSON
Services were Saturday for Dr. David A. Phillipson, Jefferson City, who died Aug. 15, 2002, in Sarasota, Fla.
He was born in Lincoln, Neb., a son of Victor E. and Leah Stevens Phillipson. He was married to Estelle Lenneman, who preceded him in death. He was married in January 1995 to Carol Crawford, who survives.
He attended Holbrook, Neb., public schools and Hastings College. He graduated from Colorado State University with of doctor of veterinary medicine degree.
He was an Army veteran. He had a veterinary practice in Holbrook. He was senior vice president and general director for the animal health division of Upjohn Corporation and the Asgrow Seed Company. He served on the Upjohn Corporation Board of Directors.
He was past president of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Nebraska Veterinary Association. He served three terms as president of the national Animal Health Institute. He was chairman of the national sponsoring committee of the Future Farmers of America.
Other survivors include: three sons, David Phillipson Jr., Kalamazoo, Mich., William Phillipson, Milwaukee, and Dr. Steven Phillipson, Duluth, Minn.; two stepdaughters, Elizabeth Crawford and Jennifer Jacoby, both of St. Louis; eight grandchildren; and two step grandchildren.
Burial will be Saturday in Norweigan Lutheran Cemetery, Holbrook.
Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Jefferson City.
Arrangements are under the direction of Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Sarasota.
SWANIGAN
Eugene L. "Gene" Swanigan, 74, Tunas, died Aug. 20, 2002, at his home.
He was married to Katherine Swanigan, who survives.
He was retired from the Missouri Highway and Transportation Department. An Air Force veteran of World War II, he was a member of Plad Baptist Church.
Other survivors include: two sons, Rand Swanigan, Jefferson City, and Russ Swanigan, Kansas City; two daughters, JoNeeta Weaver, Columbia, and Janelle Swanigan, Camdenton; two brothers, Spencer Swanigan, Tunas, and Neil Swanigan, Warsaw; one sister, Sharron Evans, Tunas; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Buffalo First Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Montgomery-Viets Funeral Home, Buffalo.
THOMAS
Lois Mae Thomas, 81, Meta, died Aug. 19, 2002, at Capital Region Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 8, 1921, in St. Clair, a daughter of Nicholas and Irene Perry Boyd.
She worked as a sole maker in a shoe factory.
Survivors include: two sons, Wesley Decker, Meta, and Melvin Decker, Linn; one daughter, Sandra Harlan, Wright City; one brother, Leroy Boyd, Ferguson; 13 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
One son, Clifford Decker, died in 1985.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rekus Funeral Home, Meta. Bill Eickhorst will officiate. Burial will be in Meta Southside Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today and from noon-2 p.m. Thursday.
JONES

MILLER
William E. Miller, 90, Brumley, died Aug. 22, 2002, at Lake Regional Hospital, Osage Beach.
He was born Jan. 25, 1912, in Jefferson City, a son of Sylvester and Eva Dodson Miller. He was married May 29, 1942, in Jefferson City, to Edna Dunn, who survives at the home.
He worked as an auto mechanic and was a member of the Brumley Christian Church.
Other survivors include: two sons, Kenneth Miller, Raymore, and Harold Miller, Brumley; one brother, Kenneth Miller, Eldon; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Hawkins Cemetery, Brumley.
Visitation will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Hedges Funeral Home, Osage Beach.
STEWART
Ruby Elizabeth Rogers Stewart, 89, Conroe, Texas , died Aug. 22, 2002, in Conroe.
She was born Sept. 8, 1912, in Decaturville, a daughter of Tom and Stella McGuire Rogers. She was married to Joe "Buster" Stewart, who died Aug. 9, 1989.
Survivors include: two sons, Jerry Stewart, Melbourne, Fla., and Sam Stewart, Austin, Texas ; one daughter, Stephanie Barker, Willis, Texas ; two sisters, Chloe Burns, Decaturville, and Betty Myers, Macks Creek; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
One daughter, Colleen Stewart, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Mt. Horeb Baptist Church. The Rev. Paul Burns and the Rev. Dennis North will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Horeb Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Camdenton.

SHOCKLEY
Betty Ruth Shockley, 71, Richland, died Aug. 21, 2002, at Capital Region Medical Center.
She was born May 26, 1931, in Lebanon, a daughter of John E. and Salma Mary Katner Winfrey. She was married March 25, 1951, to Richard Shockley, who survives at the home.
She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Richland.
Survivors include: three sons, Tim Shockley, Broken Arrow, Okla., Jim Shockley, Crocker, and David Rickerson, of the home; three daughters, Paula Adkison, Jefferson City, Donna Nye, San Antonio, Texas , and Susie Doughty, Dillon, Colo.; one brother, James Winfrey, Independence; two sisters, Freeda Claxton and Catherine Hawkins, both of Lebanon; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Colonial Funeral Chapel in Richland. The Rev. Mike Hawkins will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. today.
